Lions to release linebacker Dizon
The Detroit Lions were set to release linebacker Jordon Dizon Thursday.
The 25-year-old Dizon tallied 29 tackles and one sack in 2009, but missed all of last season after sustaining a knee injury in the preseason. Dizon was selected by the Lions in the second round of the 2008 draft.
The Lions also reached agreements with a pair of free agents Thursday -- Justin Durant and Rashied Davis.
Durant, a linebacker who played four seasons with the Jaguars, confirmed Thursday that he will sign a two-year contract with the Lions. Davis, a wide receiver who played six years for the Chicago Bears, is also headed to Detroit, according to his agent.
The 6-foot-1, 240-pound Durant started nine games last season for the Jaguars while battling injuries. The 5-foot-9, 187-pound Davis caught nine passes for 84 yards and a touchdown last season for Chicago.
Both players are unrestricted free agents. Teams can talk to veteran free agents, but can't sign them until Friday.
