double SNAP

Tim Tebow, Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn all took the field at Dove Valley for the Broncos' first official practice of 2011 training camp this morning. Quinn was the first player on the field, but it was Orton who took snaps with the first-team offense. And it was Orton who looked like the more polished, veteran quarterback.
The Broncos and Miami Dolphins have been engaged in talks about a trade for Orton, but no deal has been stuck. After practice, Orton talked like a man who thinks that he, not Tebow, will be the Broncos' starting quarterback.

Asked if he expected to be the starter, Orton said: "100 percent."
Asked if he wanted to be at Dove Valley, Orton said: "100 percent"

During the first drills of camp, Orton looked polished, while Tebow looked much rougher. Orton said he was just happy to be practicing again.

"I'm just excited to be out there with my teammates and to be having fun," he said. "I'm just out there competing and I like my chances."

New head coach John Fox was careful with his response about Orton.

"He's under contract with us. I can't speak to the future," Fox said. "At this point Kyle Orton's on our team. He's under contract and you watched practice, you saw where he was."Practice began at 8:50 with a large crowd of early-morning spectators cheering for both Tebow and Orton as they took the field.

"For a first practice ever, I thought things went really well," Fox said.

The Broncos did sign offensive lineman Orlando Franklin, a 2011 second-round draft pick from Miami, this morning. That enabled him to begin practice with the rest of the team.

Let's see, who actually IS the polished veteran, again? Oh yeah, it's Orton. So let's just be happy that he looked like what he is.

As for Tebow, he's raw and we all know it. There are two question regarding our qb situation, not one as everyone has wrongly assumed. The question is NOT will Orton be moved so Tebow can begin his jaunt into bronco lore. The question is is Kyle Orton part of this team's future success or not, regardless of where we drafted Tebow. The second question, entirely separate from the first question is is Tebow?

The fact that Elway's trying to trade Orton tells me the answer to the first question is no. The answer to the second question will be answered as early as the end of training camp and as late as the end of this season. Getcha popcorn.

F upsetting. I hope AbOrton looks fantastic, Super Bowl fantastic and drive up that market demand for him. Hell, I'll even let him be the starter for a few games while other QBs go down with injuries to drive demand up further. Polish Orton off, box him up and ship him out at a high price. All for it. If Orton stays I will root for him.

If not, we will be a top 5 drafting team again. The good news about that is, there is a strong possibility we can get Luck out of Stanford next year though so either way, win win for me and I dont really ever have to root for the cry baby known as Tebow.

All the press is about Orton vs Tebow, but the real story won't even be there.

Fix the Defense and the run game. That should be the mantra for the 2011 season.

We will be fine with either guy at QB if we fix the damn (HAM(f)) run game and defense.

Orton is a starting caliber quarterback. Whether he's better than Tebow or not is irrelevant. We're right to demand the appropriate return on him from Miami, and I'm glad we're holding on until we receive that.

This franchise deserves some compensation from one of the good things McD did while in Denver--developing Orton into a legitimate starter at QB in the NFL.

Feel free to elaborate.

I'm not saying I want Orton to start over Tebow, because that's up to the coaches. What I am saying however is that if Miami are intent on acquiring Orton to start, then they need to give us the compensation for a starting QB. That's not a 4th round pick.

Just because the market is down to Miami, doesn't mean that our FO should panic and give him up for too little.

Yup, the QB clearly was the cause of us drafting second.Don't judge just by looking at stats. Judge by believing what you're seeing on the field.
A lot of stats don't tell the real stories as well to how they came about as they do when you watch live football.

With that being said, do you remember how many games Orton failed to pull for us in the 4th qtr?
Do you remember how it felt to play from behind knowing Orton wasn't going to give you a chance to stay in the game and possibly steal a win?
Orton is a slug. The guy has no fire. He could've got us at least 4 plus wins had he not stunk up the joint when we needed him the most.

While is true our defense sucked even more, we need a QB capable of working with what he's got.
For Orton to win us games, we need to afford the guy a top 5 defense, a dominant running game, a top of the line OL, top 5 ST, etc...

We need a playmaker at QB. We need a difference maker at QB, and Orton is far from being that guy...

He got close his rookie year, albiet with one of the best defenses of the decade. Arguably, Chi might be better now if it'd have used those two 1sts to restock the defense.

If a team can't run on short yardage, it's gonna have redzone problems. "josh" threw orton under the bus last season, and the team quit on both the qb and the coach, so there's no way to say the debacle last year was cause of Orton. Outside of WR, QB was probably the most solid position on a really crap team.

But, I doubt Mia sees Orton as anymore than a "stop gap." But still, Orton's a pro who can run a pass happy offense. He and Brees come from the same background, but the difference is that somehow Brees turned into a pretty accurate passer on 40 yd passes. Orton doesn't have the arm.

Its not that Orton doesn't have the arm, its that he doesn't have the feet. You can't stand like a statue and throw the ball downfield. You have to have good footwork. Orton has unspectacular footwork.

For all the talk of Tebow having a "slow release", people should take a look at Orton's mechanics. He moves like he doesn't have ankles.
