News & Notes

The Redskins signing of defensive tackle Barry Coefield to a six-year contract opens the door for the Broncos to pursue the No. 1 defensive tackle on their free agency board — Cullen Jenkins. Broncos’ coach John Fox not only is seeking a starting defensive tackle, he wants one that make plays in the backfield. Jenkins had seven sacks in 11 games for the Super Bowl-champion Packers. If we were really one of the final two bidders on Charles Johnson, then it would seem that there is really money to be spent. So, let's spend it!

was wondering the same thing...my imagination did get carried away and I thought about the possibility of landing both...I wonder if that fantasy is even remotely possible or even if their playing styles are too similar. I honestly don't know much about either. is this even a fappable scenario?

In 2008 it was a torn pectoral and last year it was a strained calf muscle. He doesn't have any injuries that raise the red flags like a knee or foot injury and he only has seven years under his belt. I see no reason to not bring him in other than how much money he wants (if that's even an issue).

here's the problem with when you start pegging a player for certain reasons.
guys who never miss games have a lot of wear and tear on them.
guys who suffer a lot of injuries or crucial ones have their shelf life decreased by a bit.

so if you eliminate guys who are really experienced and then eliminate guys who have been injured at one point in their career.
then you will be left with guys who have barely played a good amount of snaps, rookies or guys who are just now coming on but haven't truly proven it on a consistent basis.

every deal in the NFL is a risk, one bad hit, one awkward plant, one mistimed and improper angle and you could go from one of the top guys in the NFL to a guy who used to be something.

defensive lineman rarely go through a season without getting injured, some have less injuries than others but you get beat up in the trenches on every down.
we need very good DL talent and whomever we sign or acquire is gonna have something you can ping as an issue.

You have to laugh. The Denver post stated yesterday that we were attempting to re-sign Marcus Thomas to start him alongside Vickerson next season whilst some on here think we can land not one, not two but all 3 of Jenkins, Mebane and Starks.

I honestly think we'll be really lucky if Bowlen opens the coffers enough to pay 1 DT $7m-8m plus a year nevermind 2.

Bowlen's willingness to pay DTs is not the issue. The fact that there are many other teams interested in said players is.

Starks has two years left on his contract that is pretty nice for us. Also from all accounts wouldn't we save money by trading Orton for Starks? It still wouldn't be out of the question to sign one of the other two players.

PS he is paying people regardless of the position they play.

Enough with the Bowling is a cheapskate bull****. Even if he wanted to be cheap he's forced to spend money because of the floor. We are still currently under the floor and getting rid of Orton will push us even lower.

Redskins closing in on a deal with Cullen Jenkins

In a move that has been widely expected, we’re told that the Redskins are moving toward agreeing to terms with defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins.

A member of the Super Bowl XLV-winning Packers, Jenkins has been pursued by the Redskins and the Cowboys.

Back in May, Mike Jones of the Washington Post reported that mutual interest exists between Jenkins and the Redskins.

if we can only get one, I want Jenkins. someone who can push the pocket and apply pressure up the middle requiring double teams so that our speed guys on the edges have 1 on 1 with a TE or are unblocked.
