Can someone explain how the salary cap works? I thought I understood it but apparently I don't.

How can the Jets afford all these big names at top dollars but we are up against the cap? They are still talking about getting Namdi even after signing Revis, Holmes, Mangold, Ferguson, Sanchez, etc.

They get creative with the cap. Players delay payment, restructure contracts etc…

Sanchez was just saying he was willing to do anything with his contract to fit in Holmes.

They are also more willing to spend because they are so close to a title...

Doesn't matter...you still can't have 8-9 guys on your roster with $50-$60 million dollar contracts along with all the other guys making $2-$3 million a year and be under the cap can you?

schefter says 5 years 50 mil with 24 mil guaranteed. that's insane.

Santonio Holmes early numbers: 5 years, $50 million, including $24 million guaranteed, thought to be highest guarantee given to a WR.

35M or 50M? either way they overpaid

The Jets are making a push for the SB... if they get Namndi too... yikes.

to be honest, the Jets can do anything they want in free agency

they won't win a Super Bowl with Sanchez back there...

Someone explain to me how they can afford this!!!

They have way more really high priced guys than we do and we are in cap trouble? All we have is Doom and Champ after we get rid of Orton and Dawkins restructures

the same way the skins can afford to sign FA's... and the Broncos are $20m under the cap so I'm confused on where your getting this from...

There's gotta be funny games going on with agents trying to pump up the numbers.

The new rule states that all money paid to a player in a given year is counted against that year's cap. Carolina gave their DE a $30M signing bonus. Does that make his individual cap number this year $30M+? It can't.

Exactly. That's how I understood it too but ya there is no way one guy is taking up a fourth of a team's cap for that year

30 Million Gauranteed is not a 30 Million Signing Bonus! It will be 30 Million paid over 5 years with a low salary this Year IMHO.

Yeah, that's what I expected as well but the wording when the deal broke was $30M signing bonus.

It's the time of the year when things like first year salary of a 5 year deal is counted in the guaranteed money just to make contracts look more impressive. You can't take these wordings for what they claim to be.

Plus, in the rush to report, the reporter makes mistakes in the chaos trying to be the first one in! PFW says that only 24 mil is guaranteed, not 30 as well!

I absolutely love this!! Just imagine right now whats goin thru that douchebag Vincent Jacksons head now. He is gonna try and clean the chargers clock. He signed his tender recently but the signing of Holmes is gonna make it impossible for the Chuggers to sign him long term. Great news for us. Way to go Jets.

Didnt OM used to have a "provide a link" rule to avoid people from just making stories up.

Didnt OM used to have a "provide a link" rule to avoid people from just making stories up.

It goes the way of the 100 post rule.

We implement it when we feel like it (oftentimes to be a pain) but there's no rule. I think no link is more acceptable on days like this where things are coming from all different sites, the TV is on in the background, etc. and you'll find it anywhere you look.
