If multiple teams are offering deals, I think we get a 3rd. Maybe we get a 3rd and a 5th, or a 3rd and a player. We need to get his contract off the books and other teams know that.

player AND a pick should be an option...

maybe a 5th and a player gets it done...

Decent defensive player or meh player and 5th round pick.

NFLBRONCO

a 4th

Which is why I hope player for player trade

I'm hoping Miami decides to give up a 2nd for him, but I'm thinking it will realistically be a 3rd

btw, I'm excited to have another reason to root against another team to benefit the Broncos, makes some of the other games that much more interesting

Orton's contract is what hampers any trade. This is why I think the Broncos will get no more than a 3rd round pick, or a player, but not both.

So what's left from the Jay Cutler trade?

Just don't understand how Kolb is so sought after ... Eagles could get a #1 pick and more ... even though he hasn't done squat in the NFL.

Orton is at least a better than average starter and a valuable backup ...

I don't think a team is going to pony up a 1st for Kolb. But that domino has to fall before Orton finds a home.

It would seem that for QB's you can get a trade with some sort of escalator. If he wins the starting job, and plays x% of the snaps, it should escalate up to a second rounder.

We need people who are business savvy. Make a hard deal, or forget the trade and keep him as a very able backup.

9M for a backup is too rich for my blood. It smarter IMO to let him go for less than ideal return and bring in someone who can help the team on a weekly basis than it is to keep him on the bench at 9M and burn a huge portion of the cap.

This. Too much $$ for a backup, who will be pissed to be on the bench anyway.

I was looking forward to this already being over by now. Way I see it is KO to Miami we get a 4th. Thats why BRONCOS need to be the ones forcing a trade to AZ. We need to some how pry a couple of players from them by offering KO and one of our picks. Wish list would be Dockett or Williams and HB or DRC

My dream is for the Eagles to ask nothing but a first for Kolb. Teams will back off and look at the "steal" of Orton and asking price is only a 2nd rounder. I wouldnt mind a lower draft pick and a DT or a straight up stud DT trade. Freeing up that money can be going straight to the free agency market. Teams don't have a ton of time before training camp so I hope Orton gets moved today and we get started on F.A. on Wednesday morning.

I think we would be lucky to get a 4th or 5th and an empty bottle of jack, only empty because Orton drank it on his way out.

RunSilentRunDeep

For some teams, the whole "Orton's contract is a problem" thing may be overblown.

Since owners have to spend 99% of their cap, bringing in a guy for a one-year test drive while eating up the required space, while setting yourself up for 2012 shopping spree could be a cool hand.

To the right team ( vikes or Miami ) he is just what they are looking for. I think we could get a 2nd and 3rd but more likely will get Ronnie Brown and a 5th is what I say.

We should get a 2nd for him. But with Kolb, Palmer and Vince Young on the market, we'd be lucky with a mid 3rd.

Disagree on the first part - out of 32 starters, Orton would likely be ranked with regularity in the mid/late 20's. That's below average in my book.

Even as bad as we were these past couple of years Orton was clearly in the 12-17th range.

Not only fans value but every talking head on ESPN NFL channel (FU Jamie Dukes) can justify a 2nd, just we got screwed by lockout. Having the draft before we could have made a move lost near all trade value. Best bet is a 4th,is it fair? NOPE....but is what it is.

if you couldn't name more than 12 guys in the 'better than' group, I'd agree with your numbers. But I don't see it. Purely without even thinking about it, I'd rather have:

Brady
Manning
Brees
Rodgers
Rivers
Ryan
Romo
McNabb
Sanchez
Rapestburger
Palmer
Flacco
Vick
Freeman
Cutler
Stafford
Farve
Bradford
Schaub
Warner

You can debate some, but that's just throwing darts and I already got to 18 or 20 of Orton's 'peers' the past couple of years

...no. In fact, trading him after the draft makes it EASIER to get a higher round selection.

So your saying that his value went up after teams gave up 1st and 2nd rd picks for rookies, and the same teams are going to give us next years 2nd or 3rd for the vet to mentor there rookie? Besides Cards and Seahawks maybe Miami, all the other teams looking for FA QB just drafted a rookie and will not be linings up to give us more than 5th maybe a 4th .

Future draft picks are less valuable than present draft picks. Orton's value didn't change.

Flat 2nd or a 3rd with the possibility to go to 2nd based on performance.

The deal between the cards and Egirls is, a 2nd and Cromarti for Kold. Zona is tempted by Orton because he is "cheaper" then Kolb (Compensation wise). Those were the words of Sal Pal. They are also tempted by Matt Hasslebeck. A 3rd is a dream. Cromartie straight up for Orton? Im in. Broncos may just want a pick though considering they need to dump salaries.

ChrisToker
07-26-2011, 03:15 PM
I just don't see it. I hope im wrong to be honest. He is worth more than Kolb not just as a homer but logically thinking he has proven more than Kolb. I do know the ceiling is high w/ the cannon arm Kolb has, but all thats gotten him so far is more INT's than TD's.

I hate Orton, and yet I still have to take issue with this list.

Palmer has clearly been worse the past two years. Stafford has done nothing. Bradford looked good for a rookie, but he hasn't outplayed Orton yet. Flacco has been no better than Orton. Neither has Cutler.

Orton has been soundly mediocre for us. But having Tebow, very few want to keep him. Especially not at nearly 9 million dollars.
