My first job was at an online game startup in HK... we rented out servers in a brand new building (the one Batman shoots up in The Dark Knight)... I swear those servers had a better view than anyone I know. Nice looking place (glass floors and all).

Just drove from Denver to yellowstone up to Glacier National park Montana and back through Idaho. Pick your valley. Hard to believe there are only about two million people in this corridor. Yeah it's cold but there just isn't anyone there. Cheap land along the way. I mean real cheap right now.

Heidelberg is a beautiful town. I spent a summer there while in college. Our house was up by the castle. We had a blast. I think they have been doing restorations for the past 100 year or something. It will never be done and if it is at the pace they are going they will have to start over again.

After 10 years of trips (~40) to Germany, I can communicate a little, but not as much as I would like. I find, and people tell me, that my German gets much better with some biers in me. :) LIke many, I become a bit more likely to use/try German when I'm somewhere between tipsy and **** faced.

I've traveled around - Cologne, Munich, BERLIN (my favourite place in the world)... but it was because I grew up going to a German International school (British education, lots of German lessons). I honestly wish i'd learnt French only because so many Germans speak English and the French can't speak for ****.

I really like southern Germany. Munich, black forest, Allgau region. Specifically, I like Bavaria. I like the people, the way they drink and party -- the food.
Berlin is a great city, and I typically go there once a year. Some years I never make it out of the hotel. Some years I have a day or two and walk around some of the parks, the Brandenburg gate area, grab a beer down in the area where KaDaWe is, stuff like that. It's a huge city and I've only seen a tiny bit of it.

Bavaria FTW, my dad's side of the family all lives there. Love the food and beer. I think it is funny that most people from Bavaria think of themselves as Bavarians first and Germans second. They are a fun prideful group.

Bavaria is beautiful. I was stationed there with the 1st AD back in the late 80's, and haven't been back since. I would love to go & see some of my old haunts, and how things have changed since 1 AD left. (Probably even cleaner without all the friggin' horny, rowdy GI's.)
Ich sprechen se kline Deutch, but I could probably still order food and find the bathroom.
Very true observation about the French. Even more than in the US, when traveling as a tourist in France with little to no skills in the French language, you pick up on that "stupid ferriners, you're in 'Merica now, learn ta speak 'Merican" vibe.

Heidelberg is a beautiful town. It's interesting to travel the Neckar river and the Rhine river to see the multitude of castles built on the heights. There's dozens of them.
You have to think to yourself, it must have been awful in those days circa 1000-1400 to first of all NEED a castle built in an inaccessible place, and second to BUILD the castles.
