I think the Broncos could end up bringing back Bannan and Williams, or at least one of them. Then signing one in FA also.

I watched him and Bannan inside and often I feel they did there job, only to have linebackers and safetys fail to come into a hole and make a play.

It's a long process DBroncos4life I'm trying to get all this info right the first time but if your going through It and find a mistake just let me know !

It was reported February 28, 2008, that the Texans had reached an agreement with Davis to stay on the team. He will receive $16 million over four years, with $8 million guaranteed.

On February 18th, 2011, the Texans released Davis.

Broncos will have no choice but to bring back at least, 1, maybe 2 of those DT. We need at least 2-3 more to get through season. Even then Broncos will be playing some creative fronts this yr.

Didn't Bannan get pissed and say he wouldn't resign with Denver?

Bannan said he was still absorbing his release from the Broncos, who had signed him to a five-year, $22 million contract in March that included a $6.3 million signing bonus and $10.5 million in guarantees.

But Bannan said Denver asked him to take a pay cut, and when he declined, the organization waived him.

“I’ve got a pregnant wife on my hands, and she’s upset,” Bannan said of his wife Sommer who is due on Sept. 10. “We thought we had a home base for at least a little bit. Our world really just got turned upside down today. So it really came as quite a shock, and it’s very upsetting to me and my family. We’re going to have to take a step back and see what the next move is going to be.”HH

While Bannan is still tight with Gregg, Ngata, outside linebacker Jarret Johnson and defensive line coach Clarence Brooks, another option could be the New York Jets, where Bannan would re-join coach and former Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, defensive coordinator and former Ravens linebackers coach Mike Pettine and former Ravens Bart Scott, Trevor Pryce and Jim Leonhard.
New York Jets or Ravens are my guess...

Players will go with whoever gives them the most money right now IMO. Going to be a short window, but yeah maybe Bannan isn't an option anymore I don't know. Maybe Marcus Thomas.

I think that is even more likely since they will count against this year's cap regardless.

It was my understanding there was no dead money last year since there wasnt a cap.

Has anyone else heard they will allocate last season's would be dead money to this year's cap?

DRC in three years:

61 Pass breakups. more than anyone in the league!
13 Picks
4 Tds

AZ gets Orton ,Broncos get Possibly 4th round pick and DRC.

Trading DRC makes a ton of sense to me.

Larry Fitzgerald is a free agent in 2012. He has a chance to go down as one of the all-time great wide receivers in NFL history if he finds his way on to a contender. So, unless the Cardinals find a quarterback that can win now, there’s no way he’ll re-sign.

Kyle Orton on the other hand will without a doubt be able to win games right now. He threw for over 3,600 yards and 20 touchdowns the past two years in Denver with a combined pass rating over 86.

Orton is a vet, the Cardinals know what they're getting from him and that’ll be enough to keep Fitzgerald happy in the desert. They have no idea how Kolb will turn out and if he fails to progress, and there has been no flashing neon sign in his game guaranteeing improvement, Arizona will be left with a bust-QB and no talent around him because Fitzgerald will be fielding offers from teams with a quarterback that isn't a 26-year old project.

it is easier to get a quality corner in FA than a quality QB.
2011 FA QB's up for grabs.

Hasselbeck
Leinart
Bulger

2011 FA CB's
Namdi
Joseph
Taylor
Grimes
Cromartie

2010 FA QB's:
Anderson
Boller
Carr

2010 FA CB's:
Atogwe
Al Harris
Dunta Robinson
Darren Sharper

You go back years and years and the same scenario is playing out. It's far easier to pick up a CB in FA every year vs a QB. You have to trade for a decent QB.

Get ready for the wildest free-agency period in the history of the NFL.

With the next NFL labor agreement nearly in place, here's a look at the top 10 free agents and where they might land. More than 400 free agents will be available if free agency begins Saturday.

(And remember, teams still must sign their own draft choices and scramble to sign undrafted free agents. Plus, trades soon will be allowed.)

1. Nnamdi Asomugha, CB, Oakland Raiders: Julius Peppers topped last year's market because of his ability to sack the quarterback. Asomugha, 30, the headliner of this free-agent class, closes off his side of the field to quarterbacks. Over the past three seasons, only 52 passes were completed against him. Like Charles Woodson, who left the Raiders to join the Packers, Asomugha has the type of body that could allow him to play until his mid-30s.

Leading suitors: Houston, Tampa Bay. Dark horses: Baltimore, San Francisco

2. Santonio Holmes, WR, New York Jets: His off-the-field issues led to the Pittsburgh Steelers giving him away for a fifth-round pick last year. On the field, though, Holmes is the type of stud needed to upgrade a passing offense. He is the Jets' main priority and will command top dollar. As loyal as he is to Rex Ryan and the Jets, he likely will go to the highest bidder, which is why you must look out for Dan Snyder and the Redskins.

Leading suitor: Jets. Dark horse: Washington.

3. Charles Johnson, DE, Carolina Panthers: Johnson's 11½-sack 2010 season might make people think he's a one-hit wonder, but consider the circumstances. Johnson played on the other side of Peppers during his first three seasons and registered 10 sacks total. Often, defensive ends on the other side of superstar ends get the sacks because the star gets double-teamed. That Johnson had a career year with Peppers gone says something.

Leading suitor: Carolina. Dark horse: Cleveland.

4. Ray Edwards, DE, Minnesota Vikings: Edwards is a bigger name than Johnson because he has played on a high-profile Minnesota Vikings team, but he hasn't had a double-digit sack season yet. He's had eight and 8½ sacks in the past two seasons. Still, he has 10-sack potential, and for teams with desperate needs for a pass-rusher, Edwards could be the answer.

Leading suitor: Seattle. Dark horse: Atlanta.

5. Sidney Rice, WR, Minnesota Vikings: George Edwards, who coached Vikings receivers for years, talked the organization into drafting Rice when he was 20, noting that Rice would become a top receiver in three years. Edwards was right. Even though Rice doesn't have great speed, he's a big-play threat, particularly in a West Coast offense. Rice averaged 15.8 and 16.5 yards per catch in his two seasons with Brett Favre as his quarterback. There are some who believe Rice might be willing to leave the Vikings for the right price, and the price is going to be high.

Leading suitors: Minnesota, Washington. Dark horse: St. Louis.

6. DeAngelo Williams, RB, Carolina Panthers: Williams was one of the league's top backs in 2008 (1,515 yards) and 2009 (1,117). The Panthers still plan to be a run-oriented team and will do everything to keep him with Jonathan Stewart as a one-two punch.

Leading suitor: Carolina. Dark horse: Miami.

7. Braylon Edwards, WR, New York Jets: Edwards might go through periods in which he drops the ball, but he's still a top receiver. Not only does he still have 70-catch potential, but his career 15.8-yards-per-reception average is impressive. If he ends up with a run-oriented team, he has the body and the ability to help out as a blocker. If the Redskins can't get Holmes, they might turn their attention to Edwards.

Leading suitors: Jets, Washington. Dark horse: Chicago.

8. Cullen Jenkins, DE, Green Bay Packers: Jenkins is one of the better 3-4 defensive ends in the game. However, because he's 30, the Packers are expected to replace him with a younger option. Most people around the league believe he's going to be the main target of the Redskins, who are expected to be the big spenders in free agency. Jenkins has a high motor and would speed the Redskins' transition to the 3-4.

Leading suitor: Washington. Dark horse: Buffalo.

9. Brandon Mebane, DT, Seattle Seahawks: Mebane is considered the best 4-3 defensive tackle on the market, which will make him popular in places such as Chicago, Denver and Cleveland. Former Seahawks general manager Tim Ruskell now works with the Bears and will probably push to sign him. Mebane also played for Mike Holmgren and could help the Browns switch back to the 4-3. The Seahawks can't afford to lose him, but the price could be high.

Leading suitor: Seattle. Dark horse: Chicago.

10. Johnathan Joseph, CB, Cincinnati Bengals: With more than $50 million to spend in free agency and re-signings, the Bengals can't afford to let Joseph slip away. Joseph and Leon Hall form one of the league's best cornerback combos. But the teams that don't get Asomugha might come quickly after Joseph, who is an excellent man-to-man coverage corner.

Leading suitor: Cincinnati. Dark horse: San Francisco.

Kolbs 11 career TD's and 14 career INT's is really, truly something to be impressed with. Is Kolbs 73.2 career passer rating what has given you your "clue?"

Kolb was a QB that couldn't produce in a pass happy offense. He has underwhelming physical skills and simply isn't a proven NFL quarterback.

Orton is a proven NFL QB that has produced.

And because of that Orton is more valuable and COULD get more via trade.

If a GM believes they are a QB away from making a playoff push, you don't take Kolb…you take Orton.

The bottom line is that nothing has happened yet. You don't know anymore than anyone else. So to assume it's a foregone concussion that Kolb will fetch more than Orton is silly. Could it happen? Yes. Will it happen for sure? Absolutely not.

Glazer chimes in with a timeline, too

Posted by Mike Florio on July 25, 2011, 9:54 AM EDT
Getty ImagesNo matter how much every other media outlet tries to ignore it and/or claim it for their own, Jay Glazer of FOX was the first to report that a deal in principle has been reached between the NFL and the NFLPA*.

And so Glazer gets extra special consideration when he reports on the events for the coming week.

Glazer reports that, starting Tuesday, teams can make trades and start signing rookies (presumably, both draft picks and undrafted).

Though free agents from other teams can’t be signed until 6:00 p.m. ET Friday, teams will be permitted to talk with them (and, presumably, line up deals in principle) beginning Tuesday.
When on Tuesday? We reached Glazer by phone. He said that there’s no specific time on which the doors will open.

It’s safe to say that, when the clock strikes 12:01 a.m. ET on Tuesday, the process will begin.

Glazer’s timeline meshes with the schedule posted by Albert Breer of NFL Network, who has been working this story like no one else, on site for all meetings and always playing it right down the middle, despite technically working for the league.

Also there is this....

July 21, 2011

A source says Eagles backup quarterback Kevin Kolb and Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald organized a private throwing session earlier this month at Arizona State's practice facility. (AP Photo)

Larry Fitzgerald has fended off suggestions this offseason that he will have a say in choosing the Cardinals' starting quarterback. (AP Photo)
If the Arizona Cardinals complete a long-rumored trade for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb, training camp won't mark the first time Kolb has thrown passes to Pro Bowl receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

A source familiar with the situation told FOXSportsArizona.com that Fitzgerald and Kolb organized a private throwing session inside Arizona State University's Verde Dickey Center (the football team's practice bubble) earlier this month. That would require advance planning by -- and approval of -- the university.

Fitzgerald has worked out with multiple NFL players from around the league this summer without any attempt to keep those workouts private. So why keep this one secret? Perhaps because both players knew what a media circus such a pairing would create.

Throughout the offseason, Fitzgerald has fended off suggestions he would have a say in selecting the team's next starting quarterback. Coach Ken Whisenhunt echoed those assertions at the Super Bowl and the NFL draft, noting that while he would talk to Fitz, the decision would come from the team's management and coaching staff.

So what should we make of this latest tidbit?

Fitzgerald was in Minnesota and unavailable for comment Thursday. So we don't know whether Fitz called Kolb in for a private screening or if this was the final stamp of approval needed for the Cards to chase their top target.

Multiple media outlets, citing unnamed sources, have insisted Kolb is the Cardinals' guy.

Kolb has spoken glowingly of the Cardinals in all media interviews, and there are reports that he is shopping for real estate in the Valley.

Whisenhunt told The Arizona Republic's Kent Somers this week that no one on the roster is untouchable in trade talks, a stance Whisenhunt has held the entire offseason because of the team's 5-11 record last season.

And XTRA 910's Mike Jurecki reported this week that the team is willing to part with cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to acquire Kolb.

None of this will matter if the Eagles' asking price is too high or if the Seahawks or another team offers more in return for Kolb. But what if an agreement already exists in some form?

The Cardinals insist no deal is in place for Kolb because teams are not allowed to discuss trades during the lockout. Team insiders also contend that owner Bill Bidwill is a stickler for the NFL's rules and wouldn't allow such backdoor dealings.

But word of Kolb secretly throwing pass after pass to Fitz creates a disconnect, making it hard to slow the rumor mill.

The Cardinals insist no deal is in place for Kolb because teams are not allowed to discuss trades during the lockout. Team insiders also contend that owner Bill Bidwill is a stickler for the NFL's rules and wouldn't allow such backdoor dealings.

But word of Kolb secretly throwing pass after pass to Fitz creates a disconnect, making it hard to slow the rumor mill.

http://www.foxsportsarizona.com/07/21/11/Source-Fitzgerald-Kolb-organized-private/landing_azcardinals.html?blockID=540346&feedID=3702

The Cards don't want to lose Fitz so they will do everything to make him happy.

Orton is the 2nd best available QB. Palmer isn't available yet. Washed up? He completed 61% of his passes for 3900 passing yards 26 TDs. Get a clue. Him being washed up is still better then Orton in him prime I guess. LOL

read the entire story:

Woohoo Let it begin!!!!

In no world is Orton ever better then Palmer. If you think he is then I'm done talking about this with you. Palmer was 6th in yards Orton was 10th. Palmer was 9th in TDs, Orton was 17th. Palmer was 14th in Comp %, Orton was 24th.

Palmer's INTs where high this year I'll give you that still he is a MUCH better QB then Orton.

Do you want me to tell you that Orton is better then Kolb, fine he's better. Still doesn't change the fact the Cards want him and not Orton.

PS I said I don't care about HIS stats meaning Kolb. Not once did I say stats don't matter. Big F'ing difference.

Titled “Article 11, Transition Rules for the 2011 League Year,” here’s what the document provides.

Today, the NFL will publish a Free Agency List.

On Tuesday, team facilities will open for voluntary training, conditioning, and classroom instruction.

On Tuesday, trades can begin.

At 10:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, teams may sign drafted rookies, undrafted rookies, and negotiate with (but not sign) their own unrestricted free agents, restricted free agents, exclusive-rights players, and franchise players.

Also, beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, teams may negotiate with, but not sign or give offer sheets to, other team’s unrestricted free agents, restricted free agents, and franchise players.

At 4:01 p.m. ET on Thursday, teams may waive or terminate player contracts.

At 6:00 p.m. ET on Friday, teams may renegotiate existing player contracts, sign their own unrestricted free agents, sign their own restricted free agents, and sign their franchise players.

Also at 6:00 p.m. ET on Friday, teams may sign unrestricted free agents from other teams, restricted free agents from other teams, and franchise players from other teams.

No payment of any kind can be made to any player until the CBA has been ratified by the players.

The 2011 league year will begin no later than August 4. When the 2011 league year begins, teams must be under the salary cap. (Specifically, their highest 51 cap numbers must fit under the cap.)

Thus, look for some teams to possibly go over the projected cap this week, and then to find a way to get under the cap before the official start of the league year

It's more than a bit dishonest to compare the two on pure yards considering Orton missed 3.5 games with injury. If you're going to argue yards, why not go with yds per game? That has Orton at 4th and Palmer at 11th. Certainly evens things up quite a bit in TDs as well.

And on the flip side, if you want to ignore injuries in your evaluation, then you'd have to concede that Orton has been owning Carson in total combined stats over the last three seasons.

Facts:

Marshall had the best year of his career with Orton.
Lloyd has the best year of his career with Orton. And his only probowl nodd of his career.

I'm sorry Palmer put Chad Ochocinco into the Pro Bowl 6 times. In fact the only year he didn't make the Pro Bowl since 03 is when Palmer got hurt in 08. You can't give Orton props for giving two WR's career years and sending them to the Pro Bowl and then knock Palmer for doing the same thing with Chad.

As for Owens yeah he is still better then most WRs but he isn't as good as he once was. And I don't see how his prior Pro Bowls really factor into this other to show that he once was good but hasn't been to the Pro Bowl since 07.

Gotcha. When you factor in the 3 less starts and one entire game missed, it puts it significantly over the top IMO. But I'll scale back and say "debatable fact".

The overall point of the post remains. Palmer has hardly been forced to play with garbage at WR. Before last season, that's exactly what most people were saying about the Broncos when it appeared that Gaffney might be our #1 receiver.

What I'd like to see in the future for the Broncos is consistency. Orton was not consistent, Moreno is not consistent, no one was consistent last year. I think it's one of the biggest things missing for the past 10 years. Some go gaga over a guy who has a few of flash in the pan plays and this means we should cling to them or sign them (see D. Not really. His insistance on installing the 3-4 last year destroyed any chances of them being competitive last year. They totally did not have the correct personnel or DC to run that scheme. His lack of staying out of the Defensive side of the ball is still hamstringing is overall success.

However, the moves he made this offseason have been much better than what they did last offseason!

He's still going to be a fantastic game day coach and get the most out of whomever he chooses for QB.

The biggest difference I see is that Shanahan is likely working with a superior contract negotiator and scouting department thanks to Bruce Allen.

You want to sign another starting safety. It's not very well thought-out.

That's why I said I was pleased with the draft. But who knows if either will start. I'd give up anyone of the safeties we already have on the roster, unless Dawkins is coming back better than last year but I believe he's a strong safety and Manning is a FS. And as poorly as the position has been played over the last 10 years I sincerely doubt it would lead to the #1 pick next year. Not very well thought out, just a slam. It wasn't a matter of we need him, it was a statement of someone I'd like. Sorry, I thought we were posting opinions here, not concrete statements of fact that we needed to analyze first.

49ers informed CB Nate Clements of his release.

Clements previously indicated he'd be amenable to a pay cut, but the 49ers just couldn't keep the $15 million he was due on the roster. We don't think he'll be back for less money, either, particularly with San Francisco in pursuit of free agent Nnamdi Asomugha. Richard Marshall has also been linked to the 49ers. The talent-rich cornerback market seems to be waiting on Asomugha to sign somewhere. Clements will fall in line as a second-tier option.

for what its worth, wiki was the first to break Jamal Wlliams signing with us, then it was promptly removed in the same fashion...

hopefully this is a precursor...

Eric Smith - DB - Jets
The Broncos have shown interest in free agent S Eric Smith.
The Jets are also working to re-sign him. Denver is loaded to the brim at safety, so that wouldn't seem like a particularly desirable landing spot for Smith. The Broncos just drafted their safety tandem of the future in FS Rahim Moore and SS Quinton Carter. Brian Dawkins is also supposedly coming back.

Plenty of weapons, with an average distributor and well, you as a fan, so the Chiefs still suck in my book!

Matt Cassel's stats with a good supporting cast (2008 Pats/2010 Chiefs)

21 Wins, 11 Losses, 48 TD's, 18 INT's, 3,000+ yards each season.
Suck it.

And that's why half your fan base would like a new QB?

Couldn't be any further from the truth after last year. Pro Bowl QB is fine with me.

Well we'll see. Most of us were ok with Orton for a while too but everybody knew that wouldn't last.

Chiefs will sign Breaston Friday per Jim Trotter. :strong:

So you like it when Queefs sign players that can't stay healthy? I thought you frowned on such moves?

Yep, and 4 of those INT's, 469 of those yards and 1 of those losses came against a team that went 4-12 and had a defense ranked at the bottom. He's a star!

Excellent signing of Steve Breaston by Kansas City.

Breaston will only be 28 this year.

He is a stud punt returner if called upon.

Breaston has a 1,000 yard season (1,006) and seasons of 712 and 718 yards.

If I were Todd Haley, I would line him up in the slot with Dwayne Bowe and Jonathan Baldwin starting on the outside.

That is an excellent starting 3 WR set.

Throw in Tony Moeaki at TE and Jamaal Charles, Thomas Jones, and Dexter McCluster at RB.

Kansas City should be a pretty damn good team in the next few years....if I were a fan of the team, I would be excited about their future.

You mean you wouldn't be on a rival team's message board trying to rile up some of their less intelligent members (myself included)?

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Bengals have reached an agreement with quarterback Bruce Gradkowski, who knows Cincinnati's new offensive system and will help develop rookie Andy Dalton.

Solid move by the Bengals to sign Bruce Gradkowski.

He'll backup and mentor Andy Dalton if need be and is capable of stepping in and starting some games and leading the team if need be.
