In August 2009, on a visit to Elkhart, Indiana to tout his stimulus plan, Obama sat down for an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd, and was conveyed a simple request from Elkhart resident Scott Ferguson: “Explain how raising taxes on anyone during a deep recession is going to help with the economy.”

Obama agreed with Ferguson’s premise – raising taxes in a recession is a bad idea. “First of all, he’s right. Normally, you don’t raise taxes in a recession. So I guess what I’d say to Scott is – his economics are right. You don’t raise taxes in a recession.”

Lower the taxes. Especially corporate taxes. Make them one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the world and remove any and all loopholes.

I'm all for it. Granted, this would mean an effective rise in taxes paid for many corporations but they'd still be paying less than the rest of the world.

A simplified tax code would probably remove half of the lobbyists in Washington.

That comment you took out of context is simply pointing out that a convoluted tax system allows many corporations to loophole their way out of paying any taxes at all.

The world is changed. The jobs may not just come back if we wait it out. At some point, you have to move on. Our "recession" is about to turn into just another ****ty economy if it hasn't already (pending things don't change drastically on the job front).
