View Full Version : Jason La Canfora: "I think Dawkins stays"

Just saw him commenting on B. Dawk on the NFL Network.

Says he expects Brian to restructure (no way he gets the $6 Mill he's due this year), and that he will stay. Says the team already reached out to him to guage his thinking before the lockout, and both seem like they want him to remain a Bronco.

well if it is true that he and the team both have already discussed restructuring his deal, he obviously wants to stay and is not pissed at the idea of restructuring because he has been the one organizing the workouts. if he was pissed and had no intention of staying he would be working out alone, just waiting for the lockout to end so he could move on.....sort of like orton is now.

If the price is right, keep him. He could be valuable as a fire starter and mentor to this young defense. If his body holds up, he might be able to squeeze out another year as an in the box safety. It's just hard with the offense complexity and rules of today's NFL to start a DB that can't cover in space effectively any more.

1st off do you have any articles that arent from about 2 months ago? because currently he isn't working with Denver players

Orton has practiced with the team some. but he also is practicing with Fitzgerald. how does working with a receiver on another team helping you with your current team?

Lets see there is Fitz, Orton, Orton's father, and Decker. That's from that camp. Also there is this.....

UPDATE (11:30 EST 6/17/2011): Completely forgot to mention that Demaryius Thomas is also in Minnesota, not that he's with these three, just an interesting thought. Orton possibly putting in work with the two youngest Broncos wide receivers would be a smart move.

Orton was there working out with two of our WR's as well as Fitz. Makes one wonder who Tebow is working out with.

Oh I am sure Orton is working on his timing with Demarius Thomas... In fact, as slow as Orton is I bet DT can still outrun him even while he recovers from A TORN ACHILLES TENDON!!!!!

Did Orton have surgery on his foot in January like Brady did?
I can only report what I've seen first hand as I have watched the workouts for the last 2 weeks and yet to see Orton. Tebow check, Brady check, some other tall 6-5 QB throwing rockets check. . Plenty of OLinemans and WRs No Orton

1. Brady's surgery was in January and it was a 2-3 month rehab process. In other words, he was 100% before the draft and WELL before any offseason workouts.

2. Two weeks? You're cherry picking two weeks to determine that "the writing is on the wall" when plenty of other teams aren't even having organized activities right now? Awesome.

Decker lives in Minnesotta and DT is recovering from a blown achilles, what possible work could he be doing with Thomas?

he is practicing with one guy and that guy lives there

Tim is in Denver with the team, working on team drills.

Decker has worked out at Fitz's camp two years now, as for DT who knows what he is doing up there as far as practicing goes. Playing catch? LOL

Maybe it's just me but I really am glad Orton is somewhere getting in reps and Tebow is here with the team getting more reps without Orton.

We all know Orton is a goner so we don't need him here taking reps away from Tebow. Worst case tho Orton has to stay and he is bonding with a couple of our younger WR's on the team that is all I was getting at.

i understand your point, but what i was getting at is he is spending time with an injured receiver who is not going to do anything for at least a season. Decker who was basically the number 5 receiver and Fitzgerald who doesn't even play in Denver.

so at best, he is working with a backup receiver for the Broncos, while he could be in Denver working with a bigger portion of the team.

Really though, who cares?

Orton is most likely traded/not starting, and defending his honor tirelessly is just as pointless as casually bashing him for no reason.

Him not being in Denver is the best thing for this team. Orton not getting reps with the team won't effect us even if he doesn't get traded. He is a vet and he knows what to do. Tebow is the one that needs more work with the team and he is getting it. Win/win in my mind.

i agree that Tebow needs the majority of the reps. but being that Orton is still under contract with Denver, and on the off chance Tim injures himself in these workouts and we are left with no choice but to hitch the wagon to Orton again this season, he should be with his teammates getting ready for the season.

anything can happen in the NFL. yes the biggest likelihood is that he will be traded really soon, but there remains a chance he stays in Denver, and because of that, I would really prefer it if he was in Denver working with the team.

Like I said he is a vet. He knows the drill. I can't see us losing or winning anymore games because he is here at this "camp" even if he has to start. Right now both are QB's are getting work in and thats not a bad thing.

being a vet doesn't mean anything when it comes to building a rapport with the players you are potentially going to be working with. especially in this offseason where there were no minicamps for him to work with the rest of his teammates at all, he should be there now.

I am not worried about that, he knows how to play, he would make a great depth guy and may be better suited to Fox's D rather than the cluster **** that was the 18 months of the mCd era
