Sarah Palin has taken an “extended hiatus” from her much ballyhooed One Nation Bus Tour. While the tour was never clearly defined with specific stops (especially to the media), Palin had made clear her intention to visit the very politically influential states of Iowa and South Carolina, which raised reasonable expectations that she had some sort of political goal in mind. Well it appears that those stops, and all others, have not been shelved and the Palins have retreated to their home of Alaska for the rest of the summer.

As Palin enjoys her sojourn to the 49th state, she has not reconnected with key early-state figures like Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and she may have jeopardized whatever political momentum she gained from her recent reemergence in the 2012 discussion. Her political action committee's website still greets visitors with a stale banner, announcing the nationwide bus tour beginning "[t]his Sunday, May 29th."

First, I never said any such thing.
Second, Palin is a fraud and low hanging fruit. She gets "attacked" because she brings it on herself with her profit motivated attention seeking. Palin news sells so the media is all over it. It isn't driven by politics nearly as much as it is by viewers/page views.

True, if she is no threat, then no need to complain about whatever she does. She isn´t even holding a government position and gets more press from the left than those sitting in Congress who are doing a bunch of nothing it seems.

There isn't some conspiracy to discredit jer. She just makes an ass of herself at every possible turn. Everyone knows she could never win in the GE, but sheis a gift that keeps on giving. It isn't as much about Palin as it is painting a broader brush on the elecotrate that supports her, and further condemnation of a party that willingly, for whatever reason, seems complacent on embracing a lot of her principle.

And Palin is a threat. She represents the absolute worst of the right wing base that adores her. That's why intelligent people don't like her. She was frighteningly close to becoming the VP. And the next election will be bitterly partisan and divisive because you mix a terrible economy with a right wing rhetoric machine railing on socialism with a black president with a funny name. It's going to bring out the aformentioned worst of the right wing base in force so anything can happen. Smart people don't want Palin to happen.

Regardless of my agreement or disagreement with your beliefs about the right wing base, you at least confirmed the only point I was trying to make. The constant attention and attacks on her is not just about her being an easy target, it's that the crowds she draws and the energy she creates among part of the conservative base is frightening to liberals.

Let's face it, we all know that most Republican candidates for quite some time have been very boring. Older guys that aren't very charismatic and they don't get people excited. They don't turn out the base. On the flip side, the Democrats have run many younger (or better looking), more charismatic individuals that create excitement, get big crowds to rallies and energize the base.

Palin is one of the first Republicans in a long time to create the excitement on the right that many Dem candidates have done on the left. That frightens liberals (for the reasons you mentioned) and therefore she is being attacked incessantly to try and taint her to the point where more moderate Republicans, and of course independents, will keep their distance.
