"We have no intention of changing the name again. We love the name, regardless of what connotations are inferred by the listener. Surely, if the Dead Kennedys could become one of punk's most popular bands without incurring litigation, Elway can keep their moniker and continue making so-so music for our dozens of fans to enjoy."

Has anyone known or ever met someone (other than John) with the last name Elway?

Seems about as uncommon as Tebow (I'm assuming Tebow is a change from something like Tebowski).

EDIT:

The name Tebow is an anglicized [sic] version of the Flemish name Tibaut. The Tibauts came from what is today Bruges Belgium to the New Amsterdam Colony in the early 17th century. The name was anglicized to the present form (Tebow) sometime after the English coopted the colony in the later part of the same century. The French name Thibault is also a version of the original Frankish name.

Couldn't find anything on the name Elway.

John overreacted a bit I think ...

But nowhere near Spike Lee, who threatened to sue the Spike Channel when it started up.

The Denver University (My alma matter) is planning on suing Metro State College if MSCD decides to change its name to Denver State University...

The chancellor sent out an email to students/alum saying it would "cite confusion" among future employers, and diminish the distinction between an "average state college" and a prestigious university.

Competing universities makes sense.

Former football player and current football executive vs. punk rock band on indie scene in Fort Collins?

Um, yeah, not so much...

'Denver State' sounds awful ... can't imagine that.

There is a 'Metro State University' in Minneapolis, maybe 'Metro State College' should sue them.

I don't see the big deal in this at all.
