Nice safe pick -- I like it. We'll be going D-Line with our 2nd rounders....happy 2000 !

Falcons are a Joke..

I'd say its a bold move, but not a bad one.

Expensive trade but they moved from the back end to the front, grabbing inarguably the 2nd best WR in the draft. They lost their playoff game last year because they just couldn't keep up with the Packers explosive offense, this is their answer back.

The team is good enough as is and Dimitroff has shown the ability to fill roster spots in later rounds and FA. If he risks some picks and Jones is what they need to take their passing game to an elite level its completely worth it.

I still think they gave lot of picks to get him..Also, Jones drops lot of catches.
Let's see how it goes.

If they couldn't keep up with the Packers offense it's generally the D. I know what you are saying but they have WR weapons and a WR rarely makes you or breaks you and to give up all that? DUMB

If he's a game changing WR he makes them into a top 5 offense.

In today's NFL the only way your defense can stop an offense like Green Bay's is to hit Rodgers so quick and so much he can't even get the ball out of his hands. Atlanta wasn't getting that kind of guy at 26 no matter what.

The Falcons mindset is obviously that Dimitroff can grab mid to late rounders or FAs that will give them the instant impact of a late first or late 2nd rounder would be able to. Dimitroff has been making some excellent moves in those regards lately, so if he continues it and Jones becomes a game changing WR for them its well worth the price of admission.

Their best WR is far and away Roddy White, no one else is a real game changer. Even when Michael Jenkins, not a world beater WR by any means, was out it greatly weakened their offense. Someone like Jones could be the fire starter Matt Ryan needs to break out.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they target another TE in the 3rd or maybe in FA.

Living here in Atlanta, I'd have to agree with your take on this. There will be a large part of the fan base here that will view this as a statement that the Falcons believe their window is open, now. I think they are going to regret the price paid a couple of years from now.

I'm sorry, there's no way you are convincing me. I'm stubborn about this, possibly with the stupidity of the Broncos in taking WR's in the first round, but the only 1st round WR I can think of that was a game changer is Jerry Rice. Hell we had a "game changer" in Marshall and finished 8-8. They compliment your team but rarely are the reason for moving to the next level.

I would only argue this about the Atlanta trade, Dmitrioff (Sp?) doesn't make too many mistakes. I tend to think if he thought J.Jones would help his team dramatically then he is probably right. The guy is a great GM. Also, the freedom this could give Roddy White might be awesome.

Pretty much that. Dimitroff is saying that he can staff the equivalent of late first and late 2nd round successes from the later rounds, UDFA, and general FA. He's also saying at the same time that Julio Jones is worth that much. If he's right Atlanta will become a true elite offense.

Agree! After Chicago takes Carimi there's only 6 picks till the Broncos next one and you've still got Bowers, Dalton, Rudolph, Heyward, Ayers, Leshoure, R.Williams, A.Williams, Paea, Ellis and Austin on the board... just sit back and grab a good player (hopefully a DT!).

If both the DT's are gone and Bowers is there...I take Bowers. His ceiling is that of a perennial all-pro, and the Broncos' DE rotation is set for years. Taking him in the first round is a risk, but the contract is palatable in the second.

Von Miller. Meh.

"Meh?" Miller is a FAR...FAR superior prospect to Dareus, who was only "good", not elite, as a collegian. I'm really surprsied you can't see that stone cold fact given your normal acument judging prospects (you rightly called Leinart a middling prospect a few years back, for instance).

We have addressed the Pass Rush now we need pluggers who can take on multiple blockers and stuff the run lanes.

If Ludwig Von Miller is getting blocked by OL into the 2nd level because we have no DL upfront then they will be able to run on us all day. But if we get some wide bodies who can let Von roam free and be a true "Joker" then the potiental to have something awesome is there.

I hope we find our new DT rotation in the 3rd & 4th rounds.

I would like to see if Bananan would come back and keep Thomas to compete at camp and best DL starts coming out of camp. I don't remember why Bananan was let go but he would be a big help this year on an already better front 7.
