This concerns me. I worry that Elway doesn't have the experience yet to say "We're taking player X because I want him," Fox doesn't have the bollocks to stand up to Elway, and X is out ordering pizza.

Decisiveness is important, and I worry about that with our inexperienced front office. Every story that comes out seems to confirm my concerns.

Top three targets, my POV:

Peterson

Pro: Highly productive with game changing measurables and intangibles.
Con: Occasional false steps in breaks

Miller

Pro: Highly productive with fantastic measurables and GREAT character and work ethic
Con: Not always a "finisher" and can he make plays when blocked (most sacks are unblocked or running by blockers with speed)

Dareus

Pro: Highly explosive and versatile. Very powerful guy and quick to boot.
Con: Production in general

A big attraction with Miller is that he seems to be a natural leader, someone who'll take responsibility when things aren't going well and light a fire under his teammates and get them playing.

With Dawkins maybe gone this year we need someone like that, badly.

This has me concerned to. If they allow player movement ahead of the draft, I hope these guys are able to keep up. This could be one seriously fast moving day. Too bad the draft doesnt start until 2am over here or I would be glued to the set.

Sirius radio claims that Baltimore was trying to work a deal with Denver that they couldn't get worked out. The duke trying to state down Ozzie (circa Cleveland 87) or was Ozzie trying to teach John a lesson? Who could we have been targeting?

Steelers still teaching the league how to draft. Another defensive lineman.

Adding strength to strength. Thats how you do it. Then it doesnt matter who your CB's are and nobody runs the ball against you.

Avoid him like the plague. Would be a wasted pick. There is a reason that a guy slated for #1 overall didn't go in the top 32. He has to have had a career-threatening injury. Even a season-ender, someone would have taken a chance.

I love Bowers if healthy, but how is he fit? He's an edge rusher, so with Doom and Miller on the edge there's nowhere to play him. Go with Austin or Paea at 2a. One of them should be available. I love Austin in particular. Top 5 pick had he played this season. Tere's risk there, but worth it IMHO.

Austin at 2a and Paea at 2b would be epic. On the other hand, that's easy to say from a projection stand point. DT is a high risk position, so the odds are against both panning out. That doesn't mean both won't, and if they have both rated highly then by all means pick both, but there's risk there.

My rule of thumb is that if a guy didn't play up to his skill set in college, it is highly unlikely he will in the pros. Bailey has a top 10 skill set, but is still on the board due to lack of effort and production. No thanks.

His problem isn't due to lack of effort. Bailey is a hard worker. There are alot of reasons he didn't develop at Miami. For one thing, our staff was garbage, especially most of the guys masquerading as DL coaches. Clint Hurtt was an absolute abomination as a DL coach...completely unqualified and was only kept around because he was Shannon's boy and he could recruit like a MOFO. He's now at Louisville, and only because he can recruit, otherwise he'd be completely out of a job. John Palermo was actually a good DL coach, but he clashed with Shannon so he was gone. Rick Petri was the coach last year...he was neither great or horrible. Another one of Allen's problems was that he was doubled all the time last year, which helped open things up for Oliver Vernon but it wasnt great for him. Miami also didn't have anyone at DT to help him out. Bailey does have some issues in his game, for instance, he isnt much of a speed rusher, he's more of a power rusher and he has a limited repoitore of moves (coaching). He's got alot of talent, but he's mostly going to be a run stuffing 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT in the pro's. I think he can become a good player and is probably worth a late 2nd or early 3rd round pick based on his talent. He needs a good coach, though.

The coaching staff we had ruined most of our prospects in this draft, including Brandon Harris and ESPECIALLY DVD. DVD was an absolute baller coming out of high school and then he turned into the softest cornerback ever seen in college. It's no surprise me to at all that DVD did very well in the post-season draft workouts and the like after he left Miami. He could become something one day. Brandon Harris could have used another year, but he'll probably be a very good corner eventually, too. Ofcourse, if he had stayed another year, his father might still have a job right now at the University, too, but that's beside the point.
