Does anybody here think this guy will be a much better player in the new 4-3 then he was while we experimented with the 3-4? I'm pretty sure he played in a 4-3 in college and he seems to be better suited for penetration and disruption then he does taking on double teams and occupying blockers.

yeah, if he hadn't rejected the tender offered to him and was going to return.

I'm hopeful we can get him to stay.

MT, Vickerson, 1-2 rookies (Hoping for Liuget or Austin and Cedric Thornton towards the end) and hopefully a proven vet in FA would be more than sufficient.

Thomas was disruptive at times last year. There was a flash, and it was a bit exciting for me. I could be wrong, but I still think he can be pretty good. I'm hoping he stays.

I agree. I think he is well suited to play in the 4-3. He's not built to be a big clog in the middle. He's got some ability to penetrate. (That's what she said)

He can't be less invisable can he? Can me make less plays than zero?

This. He's always been much better getting upfield than eating blockers, which makes him more DT than 3-4. I also think his ability to shed improved last year.

I hope we can bring him back once a CBA is finalized and he drops back to ~ 310lbs. Him, Vickerson, a first day rookie, a FA (not Fields, maybe Muir?) and some DL depth guys would solidify the middle.

I have doubts about our ability to bring him back, but I really hope we can. We're thin enough on the d-line without letting him walk as well!

He's yet to achieve the sort of success I'd hoped for, but I still think he's capable

He'll be the same lazy piece of crap he's been since 2007. Luckily he's a free agent so the Broncos can finally rid themselves of the worthless (sans Ryan Harris in 2008) 2007 draft class.

Out of curiosity: Do you think cutting Crowder was wise?

I think he's much better suited to play in a 4-3, and maybe Fox can get more out of him than the others.

Ever since his backflip during rookie training camp, Marcus has consistently lowered my expectations.

Give me Vickerson, and whomever else we can draft and I will be more excited. I'm fine with Marcus staying on the team, but I have very little hope or expectaion that MT will become a premier player for this team.

Its my understanding that Dareus and Thomas play the same position at the 3-tech. Thomas would be sitting behind Dareus.

1. 95% chance we'll be using 2 in our base defense. LDT, RDT instead of NT, UT.

2. Dareus is a Bill :)

Out of curiosity: Do you think cutting Crowder was wise?

Interestingly, a lot of the people I spoke to said Crowder was looking pretty good adjusting to 3-4 OLB in camp of 2009 so I was surprised. With that, he never overwhelmed me at all so I suppose we can chalk it up to a bad pick of Goodman/Shanny getting bad advise from Bates?

While he's been no world-beater in Tampa Bay he's at least had some production. A good friend of mine is a TB fan who I recently asked about Crowder, his response was essentially what I expected - he felt he was a solid-to-okay contributor but would like to see that spot upgraded. I suppose I'd take that right now.

Very fair. I would prefer to see him here still. Would be invaluable to rotate in and especially on the weakside on run downs.

i'd actually like to see us bring back Bannan. from all the reports that came out after his release it wasn't a bad break between the team and him. they wanted him to take a paycut and he didn't accept so they cut him. he has stated he would be open to listening to offers from the team.

I think a 4-3 would also help Bannan. I don't think he's quite as disruptive as Thomas (when he wants to) but I think he holds his ground against run blocking a little better then Thomas. I'd like to see us obviously get Darues who would be a starter there but I think both Bannan and Thomas would benefit both from playing a 4-3 and lining up next to such a stud as Dareus. Not saying either guy will be dominant but I'd like to see 1 more year from each of them in a 4-3 under Fox before losing them.

The CBA thing is a real problem for all these guys - we can't even negotiate yet. Can't help but feel it will be carnage when something does get worked out that gets the players back to work as there will be this massive backlog of deals that would have had months to develop but suddenly have to get done in a weekend. We will have to prioritise and make sure we go after the 1-2 guys in this category that we really want.....

Eh, MT is a scrub no matter the scheme.

MT is a testament to how bad Denver's DT rotation has been - and still is - that they even tendered him an offer.

Average Joe or Marcus, also thinks he's better than he is which is always an issue.

Well, that's certainly something to think about. I'll have to look into that a little bit.

I think TheReverend is right and Fox goes with two DTs instead of NT/UT, so I don't see a role for Bannan. Vickerson and Thomas both fit the mold and that's also why I mentioned Muir(IND) over Fields.

So what your saying is there is 5% chance we won't. I'm not comfortable with those odds.

I think Thomas would be much better as a DT in the 4-3, he didn't seem suited to the 3-4 at all.

Although he is not an impact player he would make quality depth in a solid rotation but I thought he wanted to leave Denver?
