View Full Version : Any Chance of Trading Orton at This Point?

Within the current labor environment, is there any chance of moving Orton in a deal that brings us extra and extra pick(s) in the 2011 draft?

My understanding is that, as of right now, players can be traded for future picks, but that teams have been warned against it because of the unclear future of the labor situation. Is this more posturing on the part of the league, or will teams really be deterred from making deals involving future picks? Under what scenario would those picks be lost?

Given that, theoretically we can trade Orton for a pick(s) in 2012, right?

The best scenario, imo, would be to get a 2nd rounder for Orton in this draft, but if that can't be done I still believe it makes sense to trade Orton for a 2012 pick that would give us more ammunition to target Luck if Tebow flops as the starter.

Are we SOL on getting anything for Kyle in this draft?

Nope. Current or future draft picks can be traded for current or future draft picks, but players cannot be traded at all until the CBA issue is resolved.

This is my understanding of it. If the op is correct, we could trade Orton for future picos, then trade those for current picks. We could do both of those trades with the same team so that they really just traded us this years pick. That makes me think the op is wrong.

This. Only chance is if a deal gets done before the draft. I think it's likely he still gets moved if a CBA is done by early summer...

Keep Orton for now.

as long as Brady Quinn is on this roster, the Broncos will always be looking for another QB.

Whatís your reasoning for keeping Orton? Do you want him to compete to be the starter next year? Or do you want to keep him in case Tebow gets hurt?

I donít see a scenario (unless you think Denver is a contender next year) where it would be beneficial to keep Orton instead of getting a draft pick for him.

if the lockout is lifted via the courts, orton can be traded and CBA will continue as it was. if mediation gets no where, the lockout will likely be lifted, orton will be available after the draft is over.

In a normal year, they would have moved him for a 2nd or 3rd rounder. With the CBA mess unlikely to be worked out before the draft, he will be on the roster for the near future.

what part of "as long as Brady Quinn is on this roster" did you not understand? If the Broncos trade orton, they will need to sign two more QB's.

;D

Orton has probably healed from his injury that plagued him, late in the season. Orton, not Tebow, is the man to beat...

agreed, only by that time it is more likely for a player than it would be a pick.

It would be nice if they did trade for proven talent. One of my biggest problems with our recent trades is trading proven players for draft picks. It is a pretty dumb way of doing things. This is especially true after looking at our draft record.

That's funny. Orton was the man to beat right up until Tebow stepped on the filed as a starter.
