This video is worth watching, IMO.

About five miles south of Provo, Utah (in my wife's hometown) is a HUGE Hare Krishna temple. Every March, they put on what has become the biggest Holi celebration in the Western Hemisphere - this year, almost 50,000 people attended.

Pretty cool to watch - especially when they start tossing the colors.

About the Holi celebration: Holi celebrates the triumph of good over evil and ushers in the spring season. The festival commemorates a Hindu myth about a witch, Holika, who burned children in a fire. One child repeated the Hare Krishna mantra as he was carried into the flames and the witch was burned instead. At the Spanish Fork festival, rock and roll, R&B, and other modern interpretations of the mantra are played by musicians throughout the day and chanted in a call and response game between performers and attendees. The main event of each festival is the coordinated throwing of colored powder, when the sky above the crowd is filled with rainbow puffs of dye.

What would you prefer, 50,000 people stabbing each other?

How about a sign that said "**** you."

Yea, thats sooo cool!!

Yeah, I thought it was pretty awesome. What's not to like about having fun while also learning about another religion's beliefs and traditions? And it wasn't a bunch of hippies. At least a third of the people there were probably BYU students. And I just thought the video was shot well. I get chills every time I see them count down to the tossing of the colors.

Plus, that they're doing all of that without alcohol and drugs (for the most part) should say something. Not that I am condemning those who use either; but it's nice to see people having a good time sometimes without them.

Great, I wont be flying into Utah anytime soon. Picture that many freaks at the airport to greet you. First thing I would think is, "Did our plan had to reroute and land in San Francisco?"

Are you talking about "following the herd" by running around en masse and throwing chalky color all over each other?

Would of been a lot cooler if those 50,000 took all those colors into a temple endowment ceremony and posted that video.

Yes, I do follow the herd while getting off the airplane. Unlike those begging for money with a shaved head except hair for a pony tail and the other hand hitting a tamborine. I can tell you that is not normal. People that get into that stuff is mainly because they dont fit into a normal setting and want to then stand out in some way even if it is a much smaller setting. As a big fan of rockabilly music and lifestyle, I see it with these chicks that would never make it as your cheerleader RAH RAH chick with the school spirit (or prom queen).
