It's that time of year again. One of the best sporting events there is. Defending champion Phil Mickelson getting red hot just in time, winning this past week at Redstone (Shell Houston Open). And really, it was the rounds on Saturday and Sunday in which he just put his foot on the gas and flew by everybody. You get the sense he's just been waiting for this time since the start of the season. Sure is going to be a fun time watching this awesome tournament again.

Saw some interview footage with Phil and Tiger both answering the question of "throw out stats and world rankings - who's the best golfer in the world right now". Of Course Phil gives his un-egotisical answer that there are maybe a few guys playing so well right now that all of them could be viewed as the best. Tiger's answer "well, when I get my swing back..........wink wink". What chump this guy really is turning out to be. Can't even give these other guys some credit. It's always all about him. In other words, they're not so much as good golfers as much as it is Tiger's in a slump. Get the F over it dude. You're no longer the best player in golf at the MOMENT. You might again get there but that's why there is a world ranking system. And it says you're not #1, not #2, and so on. You're #7.

I'm certainly excited.

Also somewhat OT but somewhat on topic, I just picked up the new Tiger Woods game on 360, which is centered around making it to the Masters and has the course for the first time ever. It has some new things that take some getting used to, but the game is quality.

When do the tee times come out? As for Tiger, of course he still thinks he is #1. The guy has won more tournaments then 99.9% of the people that have ever played the game. That confidence is why Tiger Woods has been one of the top 2-3 golfers ever. I don't know if he will ever regain his old form, but I wouldn't bet against him.

I absolutely love this week. It's the official start of my golf season, and my favorite tournament by far.

I agree completely on Woods and Harmon. I HATE what Sean Foley is doing to Tiger's swing. The narrow stance and attempt at a more rotary swing eliminates everything that made Tiger dominant, his athleticism. He has been no where near as good since he dumped Harmon, and I think he's going in the wrong direction with Foley. His ego will never allow him to return to Butch, and he'll never be as good without him as he was with him.

Tiger's ego has led to a lot of success, but it's done him far more harm in the last 5 years than it has good. His ego got in the way of his relationship with Butch. His ego led him to believe he could get away with his philandering ways. What used to be viewed as endearing confidence now just comes off as disingenuous and hollow because the fact that he's just a scummy douche has been laid bare for the world to see.

His ego and image no longer scares anyone on tour, but Tiger continues to think it does, and it just makes him look like more of a tool.

I, like a lot of people, find myself a lot more interested in watching when Tiger is in contention. What I have noticed a lot recently is just how much he segregates himself from the average Joe. You see a lot of great golfers like Phil, Padraig Harrington and many others act like they really do appreciate the fans and let them know through their smiles and mannerisms. I'm not sure about anyone else but I am finding myself becoming less and less interested in Tiger and what Tiger does anymore. To see the reception and ovation he recieved on 18 and then simply do his "hat jesture" and walk away, well, I don't know. I would have stood there and said "Thank you" in a way that everyone would know how much I appreciate their support. No such luck with him.

Player did talk about Sergio some. Not so much about melting down, but in regards to having some problems between the ears.

Remember a few years back when Sergio could not for the life of him start his backswing on the fairway? They used to count his waggles, he would be set and addressed, but would waggle about 13 times before he actually made his backswing.

McIlroy's hard to judge at this point, but it's certainly not the first instance where he's looked very shaky in a pressure situation.

Yesterday he looked horribly uncomfortable on the greens from the first hole. Almost impossible to win golf tournaments if you can't hole out well from 3-6 feet in the last round.

It's why Tiger has 14 major wins, he's the best short putter I've ever seen. For all his highlight reel shots, he wins primarily because he finds ways to make pars where others make bogey.

It's why Garcia has never won a major. Tee to green, he's a better player than Woods. But he can't win because he doesn't make enough birdie putts and misses a few short par putts a round.

You have to have ice in your veins to be a real good putter, especially in high pressure situations. The short game is what separates the men from the boys...

It's true short putting is a big deal. You absolutely have to make the putts inside 6 feet. When I play, I always go to the putting green an hour early and get comfortable. Because that's where you score, the greens.

I don't dick around with long putts, I practice the short putts over and over.
