View Full Version : Would Elway be willing to go all in.

How big are elways stones.

1. Elway loves luck. But who doesn't?
2. Tebow is unproven.

The move would be to back out of 2. Collecting future number 1's. Giving us either ammo for a trade or if tebow is the suck earning it honestly. However if tebow is good we would still have no shot and would no longer need luck.

Best case. Convince Carolina to get back into round one for a future, then convince luck to apply for the Supplemental Draft

Not madden but far fetched.

Thats all well and good, but without the CBA you can't trade future picks....

Teams can indeed trade future picks. But it's at their own risk since the draft as we know it is not guaranteed beyond 2011.

Good to know, thank you, I see Mort updated his explination

Im surprised this generated as much scorn as it did. It really is the most tactical decision we could make. If luck is the next elway, you do what is required to get him even if it means doing less this season. If teabow is truly transcedent that everything we do try will come to naught. Soetimes you must go all in.

As many have mentioned....A year ago, countless fans on countless boards were speculating on what it would be like to be in position to draft Locker #1 in 2011.

Luck might not even be the first QB taken next year.

Well last year locker received. 2nd round grade from the nfl committee.

Part of the scorn is due to the fact that your original post probably made sense in your head, but it didn't in writing. Read it again. Especially the last sentence:

Best case. Convince carolina to get back into round one for a future, then convince luck to apply for the special draft. (Can't remember)

It appears as though your scenario has Carolina coming out of this draft with the #1 and #2 picks overall. And all we get in return are future picks? You only do that when you have a weak first rounder or second rounder that you hope will net you a top future first. You don't do it when you ALREADY have a prime first rounder and can pretty much only lose value from there.

And, secondly, you mention a "special draft". What the hell is that? The supplemental draft? This would go against everything you argued in the rest of the post about giving Tebow a year to prove himself before either sticking with him or moving on. Why have Orton, Tebow and Luck on the team THIS year? That would be a waste.

Your correct that was poorly written. This sentence is part of a much larger thought.

Luck declared he was coming back before harbaugh jumped ship. Now that harbaugh is gone why would luck stay? Does not make sense. Unless he does not want to go to carolina. If that then how do we jump carolina in the supplemental. They have to trade their pick. If we were to drop back to the teens or twenties we could give up our first for a future from carolina. At a discount rate. But this would then be a bargain if luck declared for the supplemental based on the fact his head coach bolted.

Forget the complicated trade/supplemental draft stuff. If the overall theme is Elway wants Luck and Luck doesn't want to play for Carolina, the much more logical and simpler solution is for him to simply declare for the draft asap and pull an Elway. Tell Carolina in no uncertain terms that he will never play for them if drafted and have them work out a trade with Denver or whatever other team he is interested in playing for. It would be a lot easier and less costly for us to simply move up one spot in the draft than it would be for us to trade out of the first altogether and start messing with future picks.

This line of thinking is way beyond anything related to Madden.

1. Elway loves luck. But who doesn't?
2. Tebow is unproven.

1. I'm sure there are several people who do not love Luck.

2. No more than Luck would be as a rookie.

If this scenerio were to play out it would be a wait and see approach with Luck as the prize.

And what happens in this scenario if Tebow actually plays well after Denver made all these moves to secure yet another high pick?

:Broncos:

If Tebow Plays well our picks would be used to make the Team better. With out our own pick being high we would never have enough to get to #1

I'm already starting to hate Luck. Just because of all the talk about how Elway loves him and bla bla bla... whatever!

Give Tebow a freaking chance. He was well in control, played well and showed a LOT of promise in those starts. There's absolutely no reason to NOT let him compete with Orton this year and see what he has.

Think of this strategy as buying dealer insurance.

Elway likes Tebow IMO. He is motivating him to improve his skills by talking about other QBs plus its a smoke screen for the draft/personal moves etc etc.

See I think this is another reason to start Tebow. If Tebow stinks it up, chances are we'll have another top-5 pick. Then we can make a godfather offer to get the #1 pick and Luck.

Elway loves Locker more than Luck.

at least that is what I heard and that they would wait till the 2nd if they draft a QB.

...then what happens if Luck is a bust? You just set your franchise back way more than McDaniels ever did.

I agree with you on the reasoning for playing Tebow, but more often than not if a QB like Luck is worth making a Godfather offer for, the team in position to draft him will. Let's stick with the OP and take him in the supplemental.
