Very nice job of marketing by the owner... if you were passing through Waco in the next month, how could you NOT seek out this place and get a Ho to go?

They should make one with a big pile of onions on it and call it a nappy headed ho.

Why would a white male open a restaurant and call it fat-ho? If anything he would call it white trash or something along the lines of that. Sounds like someone wants to be mad, just to be mad.

He could open a restaurant and call it Fat Heifer Burgers and he'd never here the end of it. Obese people would be pissed, women would be pissed, and the PC people who are trying to control what we eat would be pissed.

This young person has basically offended 4 different categories of PC: women, blacks, obese people and the health food coalition... just saying...

Lots of fat guys have the word "fat" in their restaurant name. I've seen it all over, especially BBQ joints. Lot's of white guys have also put words like "redneck" in their business names, something not everyone could get away with.

Every culture has some mild epithets that we see commonly used in small business names, and people understand that it's all in good, self-deprecating fun. If you start using words that insult groups outside your own, though, (i.e. a white guy opening Fat Ho Burgers) it obviously isn't making light of yourself - people will interpret it as a dig at other people. Not so much a PC conspiracy as much as common sense.

Yeah, another person building a business on a marketing gimmick rather than something innovative and improved. That'll really change something.

I think it's just another fool who is gonna end up thinking they've got the next big thing, sinking their money into it, and the novelty will wear off and it'll all come crashing down. More power to 'em though, at least in the interim it's money not going to another chain.

And yet I still see myself going down there and trying a burger. lol. Really, when I heard the name I didn't think racist, white person, or fat women, the first thing I thought of was, "what's going on here and how is the food."

When I see companies trying to use a criminal record as a means for hiring selection and it gets shot back as being racially discriminating, I laugh in the face of common sense being incorporated into a PC discussion.

Yup. Another greasy burger. I give her 6 months to a year.

I've got an idea how we could save our country trillions of dollars. Universal health care? Not necessary. How about we all start eating salads instead of Ho Burgers. Change! Yes we can!

She used the gimmick to initially get customers into the door, and then let the product and service do the rest. Which is great. Did you not see the part where the restaurant and food was getting great reviews?

I recall them saying it was "actually not bad".

I also recall the video focusing more on the name than the food. What makes her different? She has a burger with fries or tots. Where does she stand out?

It seemed like the gimmick was basically the entirety of the draw. Unless there's something drastically different (which they would've mentioned), it's just another burger and fries.

Maybe it is good. I occasionally watch some of the food network/travel channel type things where they talk about different places and the ones that really stand out have a selling point for their food. In hers, I saw an overcrowded diner and waiting lines. You think people are gonna keep doing that for long unless they set themselves apart?

I was referring to the fact that her burgers aren't precooked. The majority of fast food burger places out there are giving you a piece of meat that's been precooked at some factory, flash frozen, then reheated in a microwave or broiler before it reaches you. SHE is using fresh meat that is cooked from scratch ONE time. There's a huge difference.

OK, so, I was wrong. Apparently the common practice now is to flash fry or flash broil the burgers with double sided grills. They make excessive amounts, and then keep them in heated trays until someone orders them. SO, you're getting a nice ammonia infused (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/31/us/31meat.html?_r=2&partner=rss&emc=rss&pagewanted=all) flash fried partially heated piece of crappy beef.

From my own personal experience, working in an authentic hamburger stand, an "authentic" burger is choice beef, cooked for roughly 7 minutes all the way through. The beef we used to get wasn't completely frozen (came to us in refrigerated trucks that kept it NEAR frozen), and looked almost identical to what I saw in the video. Big patties cooked on a flat top.

Great story about a someone doing something instead of putting hand out to govt. Call it whatever you want, if it makes money then it was a good idea.

Maybe we should start a mexican joint in calif Taco? We can call it Border Jumpers. Our Burrito can be the wetback, the day laborer, etc etc.

Absolutely. The problem, for me, is that she'll think she has a successful business because she came up with a good marketing scheme but the marketing only gets 'em in the door. You have to be able to keep them coming back with something beyond that. From the little the article provided, the focus so far is solely on the marketing aspect.
