None of them would make my personal list, but I can understand how people would make an argument for at least some of them. I just have a personal bias against 99% of the movies made prior to the 70s.

Looks to me that they are going with the "best of all time" while your list might be the "most popular Movies"-

I prefer their list it holds up over time.

Where did people come up with "Tootsie" as being worthy of one of the best? Sure, it was a nice comedy, but nowhere near as memorable as the other movies on the list. That's really the only problem I have with the best film and best comedy categories...

The Sci Fi and Horror lists are probably the least offensive of all of them, all things considered. Although I am disappointed to say the least with the lack of respect shown to the Aliens franchise.

Fight Club should be on the best movie list and Super Troopers should be on the best comedy list. It is really hard for me to pick just 5 movies as the best of all time though. There are so many good ones.

I will agree with the fight club. Odd thing about that movie was, it was better the second time I watched it.

They actually did a good job with the Suspense/Thriller list. Missed it the first time around:

The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
Jaws (1975)
Psycho (1960)
The Shining (1980)
Pulp Fiction (1994)

I'd get Pulp Fiction the hell out of there, but the other 4 are definitely solid picks and would have a place in most people's top 10s at least....and that's about as good as you can get with lists like this.

Oh, and I would've lost everything I owned if forced to bet the farm on the "Chick Flick" category. I'm absolutely shocked Titanic didn't make it.

My tops would be Shawshank Redemption, and for comedy Groundhog Day.

what is the appeal of that movie? it was dances with wolves with giant blue freaks instead of indians.

This poll was conducted by People magazine and abc News. This is not a cinephile brain trust that we are talking about here. Most the people who voted in this poll wouldn't know a good film if it slapped them in the face.

That's because their petty little political agendas got in the way.

Many critics base their decisions on the ideas portrayed in the context of the society that they were released in more than any other factor.

I do like the list that you posted here though I would remove pulp fiction and replace it with Aliens.
