View Full Version : Elway intrigued by this year's QB class

"This group is very talented," said Elway, the Broncos' former quarterback who is running their football operations department. "It's very rare that you have three guys who are at least 6-4, 230 and run a 4.6."

"We're always looking for that guy," Elway said, when asked specifically about the so-called "franchise quarterback of the future." "We may already have the guy who can pull the trigger and win us a championship someday. We may have him. We don't know. We believe in Tim but he's not there yet"

We're not drafting QB at #2.

I tell you what though, if this was a stronger QB class we'd see quite a few QB coming off the boards early due to team needs in the top 10 picks

If we don't draft D with our first pick this season I am driving to Denver from Ohio just to crap in my own hand and throw it at Dove Valley or someone important that I see leaving Dove Valley.

Ask yourself this guys, if you were elway in the middle of a lockout unable to make any moves in free agency, what would you be doing? Going to every pro day and private workout developing the best strategy possible come draft day......

After reading that, it looks like Elway is pitching the #2 pick to the highest bidder. "Hey, look at these big athletic QB's...come and get it."

Face the fact, that Elway, Xanders and Fox are in full rebuilding mode and no player on this team won't face competition. IF Elway and Fox think a QB is the best chance for this team to move forward again they will select one, no matter who is on the roster.

There is not a QB in this years class I would have over Tebow, there is no Sam Bradford in this years batch, sure some of them can run, but that tends not to help so much in the NFL where every team has a couple of linebackers who run 4.6.

UboBronco

I think by evaluating all of the QB's, is helping them decide if all 5 go in the first round or not. If they are first round material, that would leave several other good players avaiable in the second round for us. Knowing how other teams are reacting/grading talent only helps us with our draft plans. Scouting every player makes total sense.

I doubt they take a QB early this year.

If there is a season, the team isn't going to do much with or without Teboz.

Trade down from #2 while picking up some ammo next year to go after Luck.

if we go offense at 2 or peterson at 2 i'll be there with you doing warmups on the kicking leg so that when Elway, Fox and Xanders come in for work i can give them each a nice hard kick in the nuts

Elways smart. Put it out he may not like Tebow. Says Orton the guy. Talk up the QB class. If your some team thinking qb and you pick later in the first you may offer something up to move up. Pull a Patriots and get there first round pick next yr, and a pick this yr.

If Buff, Cinci, Airz, Tenn all want the same QB it could get interesting. I don't know enough to say that one is that much better. But if all those teams are high on the same qb, or even 2 of the qbs we would have a chance to move down.

NFLN said, we are bringing in Newton and Gabbert in for private workouts sweet for trade downs.

Broncobiv
03-22-2011, 08:56 PM
And THEN, when Roger Goodell walks up to the podium and says, "With the second pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select Cam Newton, quarterback, Auburn," that will REALLY throw people off our trail! They won't know what to think, and then we'll be SURE to stockpile extra first and second round picks!

exactly. let a team worry that we might take Newton or Gabbert at 2 and we can cash in to trade back, especially if Elway, Fox and Xanders aren't particularly crazy about the players at 2, or think they can still get their guy a few picks later.

And we will be at Shanahan part duex. Elway is learning to speak highly of the offerings and build up the #2 pick without saying so. I would rather have teams come at us asking about the #2 pick than us shopping it.

I think so. Hard to believe any guy who made it as an NFL QB would think measurables indicate likely success.

I think the common trait for success as an NFL QB is an utterly insanely competitive nature. That is the common trait for: Elway, Favre, Brady, Manning, Brees, Rivers etc. I think the Broncos have a guy now with this trait in Tebow and I bet Elway knows it.

I won't be shocked to see them take a qb like Mallett if he is there in the 2nd round. Probably with the thought they are trading Orton and letting Quinn go.

So we have the crappiest D in the league and we are letting go two veterns to go with basically two rookies. Im not on that band wagon. Trade a QB draft a QB. Been there done that.

To me this is all about trading out of the #2 pick or they really aren't sold on Tebow. Maybe Tebow is the one that is traded

I don't think they're sold. For all McDaniels flaws though, he knows what it takes for QB's to be successful, and I think Tebow has it "upstairs" to be a good QB. Just not sure how long the team wants to wait for it to happen.
