Looks like Intel is dumping the X58 chipset, triple memory config and 1366 socket ... all at once with extreme prejudice. This stuff was cutting edge what, just a few months ago ... and now 6 gigs of fast triple memory is just 45 freakin' dollars ?!

This price-speed combination seems hard to believe ... Sandy Bridge was released just a month or two ago, and this sick fast 3.8 CPU is just $315 ?! That's the same price the previous generation 950 and 960 are going for now. So this means the early adopter price barrier is basically gone? That really is revolutionary.

Those core i7s are pretty sweet. Makes me pissed off that I bought a core 2 duo just a couple of months ago.

I hate Best Buy with a passion, but absolutely love this commercial:

Wow. I'm so glad I didn't buy a comp just a couple months ago.

I bought beer instead. Lots of booze.

Already, nice ... they just released this new line in January. You should change your user name to CuttingEdgeChris.

Don't most of us remember the previous releases for new Intel CPUs ... the 386, 486, Pentium, II, III, IV, etc? Always big drama leading up to release dates, and prices were insanely high out of the gate. It seemed like Intel played on the burning lust of the emotionally weak (like me) to make huge profits off the early adopters (code for guys who pay way too much to be first on the block). These new chips are still called i7, i5 etc ... but the architecture has been completely redesigned, and the speeds are off the charts. What seems like 'New World' to me is that these new chips aren't expensive at all, in fact the one above is the same price as the 2-year old i7 950 and 960! Now THAT is revolutionary. I for one am grateful they're not playing on our weakness this time.

That's your own fault. i5/i7's 950/960 have been pretty affordable for quite some time.

The only thing interesting about Sandy Bridge is SATA III. Of course, the massive recall for defective south bridges kinda makes that a moot point for the near future.

That's from a Frys ad, they post their newspaper insert ads online here (http://images.frys.com/art/fryselectronics/newspaperads.html).

You already have a 3x2, that's great, means you must have an i7 CPU with this X58 chipset (http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/chipsets/x58/x58-overview.htm) ... that's a screamer desktop. Just six months ago I thought triple channel was the future, that every computer would eventually have it. Instead Intel dumped the whole thing. I had never seen a set of triple memory sticks sell for less that $100, which is why the other ad there for a $45 set - a very fast 1600 set - is so telling. Looks like Corsair and probably other manufacturers are dumping all their triple channel inventory before it's too late.

Are you mocking me?

No, they got jobbed ... 21 wins and snubbed? With the roll they were on, they probably would've beaten a higher seed in the first round, then with a couple lucky bounces might've even made the Sweet 16. The whole Big XII got jobbed really, maybe because it's a lame duck conference.

At least we have a home game in the NIT this week.
