NORTHAMPTON, Mass (Reuters) A U.S.-led research team may have finally located the lost city of Atlantis, the legendary metropolis believed swamped by a tsunami thousands of years ago in mud flats in southern Spain.

Seems like it could be promising. Although, I hate when statements are made without having one shed of proof.

I made sure I taped the program and look forward to watching it.

Thanks for the information.

definitely gonna watch.
saw a thing on history today about john wilkes booth, he may not have been killed immediately after the assassination after all. might have escaped and lived like 18 more years in texas before dying, lot of evidence points to it, but they cant get exhumation of his brother approved to confirm DNA evidence.

Maybe. According to George Noory the Atlanteans were the go between for Europe and Central and South America...cuz how else are egyptian mummies found with traces of cocaine?

no idea.

now, if you meant opium instead of cocaine, then it's the Queen of England who did it. just ask the LaRouchians. they'll tell you.

The History Channel has run at least two versions of Atlantis discovery stories in the last 6 months I think. I didn't pay much attention, esepcially since they also run Monsterquest, and if you've seen it you know what I'm saying. HC also ran another story that had aliens living on the sea floor in an underwater city they portray as Atlantis...predictable but amusing way to spend that time slot I guess.

It's interesting if it goes anywhere but I'll look for the followup in two months disputing the findings from somebody elses research, yada yada yada...not enough time to dial into these things really...

Considering that many of the great historical writings about travelers were written down by individuals other than said travelers, I don't really think that's a factor.

To my understanding, Plato never claimed to travel there.

Haha! Monsterquest drives me crazy. You spend 55 minutes as they show super brief clips of something that could be awesome and then at the end they conclude "Black bear" EVERY time.

There's a show called Destination Truth that's reallllllllllllllly good. Their Himalayan bigfoot expedition was awesome AND they found some disturbingly good evidence, including a hair sample that DNA tested into an unknown large primate.

The History Channel is this century's version of "In Search of", it should be viewed for entertainment only.

They had a show on about 3 people driving around in that crappy Porche Cayenne and trying to hunt down rumors and conspiracy's. They did a show on Booth which covered a lot of strange ground only to get to the point where they can't get a DNA match because the family won't allow. It was lame but I saw an ad for it on that Gator show which I was addicted to. I liked IRT in India, it is fun how they shoot those things to make it look like they are in trouble.

I also enjoy Nazi day that they host every week or so. It amazes me that they can still find ways to present the same stuff over and over.

I am a convert to the Travel Channel, plus no shows on bible codes but this dude likes to eat testi's alot.

thats the show im talking about. it ended with a theory with a solid base of support, but no hard evidence and no way of getting that evidence without judicial ruling.

Yeah, the "History" Channel is really pretty sketchy these days. Gone are the days of entertaining historical analysis, and they have been replaced by crazy revisionist history.

Add Antarctica to the list. In antiquity, it's theorized, it was much further north.

i would google it, but essentially, there is a chance he did not get killed that night, he might have escaped and lived in TX for another 18 years. when you see the facts regarding the autopsy of wilkes body that they performed that day, it happened on a submarine with the only record of it being lost i think. the show was interesting.

These guys are putting together a convincing case. They have found artifacts of Greek gods that are typical of the culture they expect to find in Atlantis, they have found circular formations in the region, they have found methane deposits that are created when a layer of inorganic matter quickly covers organic matter and the organic matter decays, they have found metal mines in close proximity, they have found man made structures in the ocean where they expected them to be after a tsunami altered the shoreline...impressive stuff.

I watched it and was disappointed. They hyped it as they found Atlantis.

The stuff offshore was not manmade, rather normal geologic formation. but the show did its best to leave the impression that it still might have been man USED afterwards. They downplayed the fact it was natural rock formation although they finally did state that, after hyping the formation itself too much.

Although they may have found Atlantis site they did not find anything in that specific location other than the two small statuettes and evidence that they need to dig to see if anything is really there. The methane proposed just proves that
organic material was probably buried (most likely by a tsunami) and that there are other items like buildings walls or ( maybe) just rock formations under the ground.

Pretty much all conjecture with little "evidence" to back it up.

That's how archaeology works.

You either follow a theory to a site like these guys did, or you stumble on a site by serendipity.

When a theory pays off with more information, its a sure sign that you're doing something right.

If Atlantis was in fact covered by mud and debris thousands of years ago, then it will be a rough go in finding material.

Finding the statuettes was a significant development.

Archaeology moves slowly.
