Tiki Barber plans to end his retirement

When we first saw this one, we checked the calendar to make sure it wasn’t April 1.

Running back Tiki Barber, who retired after the 2006 to strike while the media iron was hot, has decided to return to the game after four years away from it, is returning to football.

Barber’s agent, Mark Lepselter, has disclosed on Twitter that Barber “has filed the papers with the NFL to officially come out of retirement.” (Reached for comment via text, Lepselter confirmed to PFT that the announcement is legit.)

Lepselter tells Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com that “there are interested parties.”

If Barber still had one or more years remaining on his contract when he retired, the Giants still hold his rights, so any “interested parties” would be tampering. Either way, the Giants would have to decide whether to keep Tiki or cut him loose, once he is reinstated by the NFL.

Barber’s media career has bottomed out; he currently works sporadically for Yahoo! Sports after leaving NBC.

Last month, Barber’s twin brother, Ronde, re-signed with the Buccaneers for a 15th season. The Barbers will turn 36 on April 7.

Despite his age, the fact that Tiki has taken no hits for the past four years should allow him to play younger. He capped his career with more than 2,000 combined rushing and receiving yards for three straight seasons

So why is running back Tiki Barber returning to the NFL?

“After seeing my brother [Ronde Barber] still have fun at our age, it reignited the fire. I’m really looking forward to the challenge of seeing if I can get back to the level of where I was,” Barber told Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com. “I started working out again recently. It kind of shocked myself. I still had a lot of the strength I had before. I’m really looking forward to making a return.”

Many will assume that Barber’s financial obligations — and lack of network TV money — has fueled his desire to squeeze the last few drops of physical ability out of his muscles, bones, and connective tissues. If things go well, it could also provide him with an off-field bump, paving the way for an appearance on Dancing with the Stars and generally positioning him for #winning.

Perhaps. More likely it is because he is incredibly boring as an analyst and any good will he had with the public to trade on as a general celebrity personality was flushed down the drain with the cheating scandal. He's definitely doing it wrong.

I usually find...and this doesn't apply to everyone; that people who get tat's have self-esteem issues. Which is why they want to augment their body. They literally aren't comfortable in their own skin. :P

Funny historical aside here, the titles lord and lady are contextually relevant to what you said. Lord means keeper of the bread, and lady kneader of bread, so by saying she makes bread/dough your really just saying she's a lady.

Charles Ramsey is hilarious. Paints a detailed picture of himself going to McDonald's then eating it at home in another interview.

During the interview on this page he stops and helps the cameraman move some wires around. Haha!!

I don't know how to post vids from my phone. If you weed through all the different interviews of him you'll gather the funny info. After he heard the screams he ran from his living room "clutching a half eaten Big Mac".

This is by no means a hilarious story for the women, but Charles is pretty damn funny.

Do white victims get more attention?

As it turned out, Ramsey's assessment was a twist on what is known among media critics as the Missing White Woman Syndrome.

In Cleveland, the newspaper stories were mainly about the white girl.

In the 10 years Berry was missing, the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper published 36 articles about her, according to a search of electronic news archive Lexis-Nexis.

During the nine-year period that DeJesus, who is Hispanic, was missing, the newspaper published 19 articles about her case.

The coverage of these two cases reflects an overall trend in the media.

According to a 2010 academic study, roughly 80% of the news coverage about missing children is devoted to victims who are not black, while only 20% is given to children who are black.

Charles Ramsey helped to save Berry, DeJesus and Knight from their prison. He was also blunt.

"Ramsey just called it like he saw it," says Farai Chideya, author of The Color of Our Future: Race in the 21st Century.

"People say, 'Wow, he's representing our race, and he's doing something really awesome - but why can't he comb his hair?'

"I think it's healthy to expand the notion of what a good black man is. You don't have to have a full set of teeth to be a hero."
