In current role, has more influence on player-personnel decisions than before. A different role with Fox and Elway, they’re working toward consensus and lots of positive conversations as they move toward every decision.

Great opportunity to have expanded role running the roster and picking the players while Fox coaches the team and Elway has final say.

Fox is a very successful defensive coach since 1997, ranked 10th or 11th on average. Allen comes from Gregg Williams school with lots of takeaways and negative plays. They’re blending both philosophies in the 4-3 to make the Broncos’ 2011 defensive playbook. Also have Richard Smith as LB coach whose been a DC twice before, along with Nunelly and other defensive coaches who have lots of experience – building a great defensive playbook for 2011.

Want players with instincts that lead to production. Play speed is important in Fox’s model with the LBs and DBs. Whole front 7 needs to be playmakers that create disruption – they’ll probably be bigger than other 4-3 team’s fronts. Will get it really specific during the combine on the LDE, NT, 3T and RE – already defined Sam, Mike and Will last week. It’ll be a good defense.

(Shaking his head initially) On reports that Tebow doesn’t have support from some in the building – report is false. Everyone is behind him, had a very successful career at Florida. He’s working hard to become an NFL QB, franchise invested a lot in him with draft picks and the contract. He’s going to determine his role, he’s done a good job in limited opportunities so far. Fox wants competition at every position.

Ayers was evaluated by Fox a few years ago, sees him as starting LDE – he was a disruptive guy in that spot. Elvis is at RDE, feel good about upside and need to get production from front-7.

Fairley and Dareus are both good, but different players. Dareus has played in 3-4 at all 3 spots while Fariley is a true 3T in the 4-3, a disruptive guy non-stop through the game. Both are good, can’t compare to NFL players but both have good upside and will be good picks.

Every year there’s guys like Ayers that are labeled as 1-year starters. Dareus played a lot but had guys in front of him. Clay Matthews was only a 1-year starter and he’s been great – everyone has risk and reward.

We researched each player’s football and character grade, separate them so they don’t bleed into each other. Tags and alerts to follow the specific concerns, character will always be a part of the equation and you can take chances at certain points but you want guys who love football and passion for the game. That’s the first question in every interview.

Feel great about QB group. They’ll all compete and fight for their roles, same way as with WR and CB groups. We’ll see what happens.

The offense last year was an explosive passing attack, need to solidify the running game and go for a balance. Think have some good young talented players across the groups but need to get better everywhere. Need more rushing attempts.

Demaryius and Eddie are rehabbing well and will be fine. They’re good players and love football and they’ll have big roles on the team. Feel good about WRs.
Newton had a productive, exciting year – he’s a winner. He’ll show what he’s got in the combine workouts which will be exciting. He’ll have a good career.
Broncos will evaluate QBs, no matter who’s on the roster they will evaluate every position regardless of who’s on the team.

Champ was never in question of not being here was just a question of timing and structure. Had a deal in October close on, we started to backup. After evaluating free agent market and own team, came out of meeting saying Champ is #1 priority, best defensive player on our team. Were close anyways, just had to tweak numbers in 2012. Champ had a 45 minute meeting with Fox, came out smiling. Lot of NFL players want to play for Fox, Champ was excited about what he had to say. Lot of positive negotiations there and feel good that he’s back.

Preparing for draft and every scenario to execute any scenario have to regarding CBA.

Did Auburn run a 3-4 or 4-3?

Dareus has played in 3-4 at all 3 spots while Fariley is a true 3T in the 3-4, a disruptive guy non-stop through the game.

Very, very, VERY rarely does a player line up in a 3T in a 3-4.

Is that a typo or did he slip and mean 5 or did he slip and mean 4-3 or is he retarded and that's why he screws up the pizza orders?

I believe they have run a very vanilla 4-3 for years.

I would go out on a limb and say he meant to say 4-3 or it was mistransscribed.

Sounds like the team really likes Fairley.

There is a very real possibility that Carolina chooses Newton.

Fairley would be the best outcome. He's a dominant player.

This is the first time I've ever really seen a full interview with Xanders, and HOLY CHRIST he does not belong in front of a microphone or camera. While watching this I kept waiting for somebody to get his attention and just ask, "What's wrong with you right now?" Watching that made me uncomfortable.

Before he went out there somebody must have said something like, "Don't worry Brian, you'll be fine. Just wave your hands around when answering questions and repeat the names 'John Elway' and 'John Fox' multiple times."

So he's not just getting pizza for the higher ups? He has to order for the players now too? Nice promotion, X Man.

What's the difference in a 3, 4, and 5 technique?

What's the difference in a 3, 4, and 5 technique?

The position along the DL. It ranges from 0 (heads up over the center) to 9 (way outside of tackle and TE if one is lined up). More importantly, it grossly adjusts the gap assignments for the rest of the defense and how you play the position dramatically.

I find Xanders annoying as hell when he says this stuff. Sometimes it is better to just not say anything. It is hard not to think 'Yes Man' with him.

It was tiresome at its first iteration.

Just like a few of the other "jokes" here (old and stale). But whatever, some people must find them funny, and it come with the territory...

Has anyone seen this?

Here's an excerpt:

"On Tim Tebow, Xanders said "every player will create their own role." Personally, after speaking with Elway at the Super Bowl and Xanders this week, I don't think Tebow has much of a future in Denver."

Is Adam Schein from Fox Sports a douche, or what?

Funny how bad the mCd era really was read X's comments

Ah, the freedom of speech. Broncos general manager Brian Xanders looked happy and relaxed during a conversation Friday at the Scouting Combine. Xanders was rightly raving about the Broncos' shift in "philosophy and culture" with John Elway and John Fox taking over after Josh McDaniels sucked the life (my word choice) out of the building.

Elway and Fox are the right guys to reinvigorate the fan base, locker room and people in the building. Xanders bought my comparison to the Jets' situation when Rex Ryan replaced Eric Mangini. Fox, like Rex, represents the right guy at the right time.

Xanders loves the fact that Fox has experience in great organizations like the Giants and Steelers and led the Panthers as an established coach for nine years. Xanders says the "players playing hard" for Fox jumps off the film. Denver is switching to the 4-3 defense under Fox and new coordinator Dennis Allen, who comes from the aggressive Gregg Williams’ school of defense. Xanders seemed pretty confident that Elvis Dumervil and Robert Ayers could play end in the 4-3.

There is no doubt in my mind the Broncos will take the best defensive lineman available with the second overall pick.

On Tim Tebow, Xanders said "every player will create their own role." Personally, after speaking with Elway at the Super Bowl and Xanders this week, I don't think Tebow has much of a future in Denver.

this sentence......."Personally, after speaking with Elway at the Super Bowl and Xanders this week, I don't think Tebow has much of a future in Denver.".......tells me nothing......other than that Schein is vomiting his opinion without tieing it to anything.....other than his opinion. Wow, some crazy journalism ya got going there, Adam. Are you stealing notes from Lombardi?

After reading this line I am sure that either: a) Schein is making it very clear he's joking about the entire article, b)Schein has an enormous bias and will fabricate truth to further it or c) Schein didn't watch the interview.
