He's been slow since 2007. Nolan did a fantastic job of limiting his exposure to passing downs, and more importantly, playing a deep half.

Plus Dawkins has been playing strong safety (closer to the line and covering TE/Backs) and OJ Atowge would be a free safety. So it would be Hill that's in trouble of being replaced.

As far as signing any free agents... I'll wait until the CBA is done to worry about that.

This would be a major signing if we can get it done. We have a ton of uncertainty at S and need a ballhawk like this guy. Plus, this is a really poor safety draft.

No. I meant they shopped him in 2008 and again in 2009 and even let him enter into the FA market in 2010.

That's almost word for word what I posted two years ago (http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showthread.php?p=2223003&highlight=atogwe#post2223003).

I would love it if we snagged OJ Atogwe.

Dude has a nose for the ball and is only 29 years old.

Otogwe has 22 INTs and 16 forced fumbles in 6 years.

That is 38 turnovers in 6 years.....6.3 turnovers per year.

Guys, this isn't the only thread on the board ... Pats signed Barrett to a $1.75 million 2-year deal today, despite him missing the 2010 season. So they must like something. We'll see, and bow I'll hold you to that promise

Buff, they signed him for his special teams ability. He's only going to be a backup at safety.

(And that's barely above league minimum vet money right there. It's not like they rolled up the Brinks truck.)

I think everybody here loves the guy and the way he plays the game, and he did an amazing job in 2009, but you're either letting that love cloud your judgment when defending him or you didn't watch him play at all last year. Opposing teams made plays against him all season long, and he was late taking angles, playing the ball and making tackles. He had his share of good plays and hits, but for the majority of the season he looked pretty bad to me.

I'd be really surprised if he was still here next season, despite what he brings to the team with his leadership and experience, unless he takes a pay cut and loads up on HGH.

I've honestly not watched Atogwe play hardly at all, but the safety position hasn't been anything to be excited about at all since the first half of 2009 and his turnover numbers look very enticing. Couple him with Hill, who tends to just be safe and steady if not a difference maker, and Allen's schemes, which have proven to focus on causing turnovers successfully, and I like the idea of signing him as long as it doesn't financially hamstring us in free agency.

OK, that's hefty for a safety. I guess he didn't want to renegotiate to stay in STL, wants to test the FA waters.

I can see how he'd be a good addition to the roster. We're long in the tooth at safety and the young guys McBath and Bruton aren't proven.

Give me a Bowers or Miller with Elvis rushing from the same side opposite Champ , CHamp on the other and OJ playing centerfield and I really like our chances to create a ton of turnovers. I sure hope Cox comes out of his issues clean and ready to go

Add in some run stuffing DTs from round 2 and this D could be fun to watch

Huh? Safety is one of the weakest spots Broncos have on the roster.

Outside of TE I can't think of a spot we are weaker at. Even on dline in a 4-3 we have more then at safety.

I like Moore from UCLA if they look to draft but Atogwe would be huge.

Me too as long it also meant a trade down. A QB to the Bills is heating up so it just could happen.

Moving back to 5-8 while picking up somebody's 2nd & 4th + something next year would be sick. Can you imagine a draft that fell like this?

1 Dareus
2a Heyward
2b Rudolph
2c Paea
3 'Quizz
4 Moch

Atogwe & an upgrade somewhere on the OL in FA & you still have the flexibility to move Orton later if you want.

If we get rudolph i will be so elated. Not sure he dropped a pass at all last couple years. His hands are like catchers mitts from what I have read. Super big. I watched him play USC i think it was and he stuck out.

Broncos Qbs need to some big mismatches. I really don't think Lloyd as good as you all think he is. He is a starting WR and had a huge yr. But we threw too much and Mcdaniles passing game inflates numbers.

Not sure if it will be as easy for Lloyd this yr in a new offense.

I agree that we need a pass catching TE, so many times last year we got in trouble because our TEs couldn't get any separation or make an easy catch (I am looking at Daniel Graham here).

The only thing is that the defense needs to much help right now I am not sure that we can afford to throw a 2nd round pick at Rudolph which may not even be enough, he could be a late 1st round pick.

Hell no!

Give me a Peterson with a huge upside and more years left than a another free agent quick fix that will require more upfront $$$.

The Secondary needs to get younger via the draft.

The LB corps needs free agent dollars more than the DB's.

The front four could use a pick and a free agent.

Atogwe sort of more a play the ball then whack the WR type. Sort of smaller but with good speed and pretty good tackling ability. Probably a good type for the new league where its more about playing the ball then jarring the ball loose. But he's not my style really. I want some guys who lay the wood.
