Rhode Island Dems Firing Union Teachers for Obstinance

A school superintendent in Rhode Island is trying to fix an abysmally bad school system.

Her plan calls for teachers at a local high school to work 25 minutes longer per day, each lunch with students once in a while, and help with tutoring. The teachers' union has refused to accept these apparently onerous demands.

The teachers at the high school make $70,000-$78,000, as compared to a median income in the town of $22,000. This exemplifies a nationwide trend in which public sector workers make far more than their private-sector counterparts (with better benefits).

Yes and the US is by definition a fascist nation.

I wouldn't work an extra half hour per day either, no matter what the yearly salary is, i signed a contract to do X for Y number of hours, now you want Z, remember that next time the contract comes up. Until then, iv done what i agreed to do, you do what you agreed to do. Today a half hour, tomorrow an hour, by the end of the week you are working 12 hour shifts getting paid for 8.

Lets be real here, 25 minutes, x 5 days a week = 2 hours x 40 weeks a year that they are in school 80 hours, so would you work for 2 weeks for free just because the boss asked ? 80 hours at say 30 bucks an hour ( which would be low if they do in fact make 70 grand a year) $2400, what about the day care you have to pay for now because you cant pick the kid sup ? its not Just 25 minutes.

And yes I bet this is a case where a few teachers were actually going to do it, and the union put pressure on them not to, however the union doesn't hire or fire people, so they really could do nothing to stop them.

BTW: Our income and profit is based on the success of the projects we secure and manage. It's also about building reputations with clients. I like to spend more time on site doing QC, which results in superior end products and satisfied owners.

You believe that my family suffers because of my schedule and comittments because you aren't organized sufficiently to be able to balance proffession and personal life.
FYI:
I never missed ANY of my daughters baseball and volleyball games due to work related appointments.
I coached recreational soccer for years while my sons were playing.
I work for the School drama club building sets.
I rarely work any weekends, and if I do, it's while my family is sleeping.
Our family organizes at least two family vacations each year to be able to get away from the daily nonsense of life and enjoy time together seeing new places. (Don't worry, aside from my wife having to attend a conference in Canada, that ****hole is way down on my list of targeted vacation destinations. In Fact Bum**** Egypt would be ahead of Canuckestan)

So, you can continue to think as you wish, that my family sufffers due to my work ethic, but your opinions of me couldn't possibly be further from reality.
