View Full Version : Weird hygiene question

I've been using Old Spice deodorant for about six months now. Lately when I'm sleeping I get an annoying "pain" under my arms because my armpits are dry as a desert causing massive chafing under my arms when I move. These glands exist for a reason! I've never had this problem before and I sweat plenty at the gym. What gives? Any idea?

I started using the same and haven't had any issues, maybe a little itching but that's it.

Kind of strange.

The easiest solution would be to stop wearing deodorant. If that doesn't work, you should also stop showering and brushing your teeth.

There is more than one type Old Spice deodorant-is this the green stripe or the blue one?

try the same old spice deoderant, but without the antiperspirant

Chris

I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have the antiperspirant. I've always been weary of that. It's the standard red brick (the actual deo is blue).

Old Spice does that for me too. I used to wear it all the time but now if I go back to it, its very painful and I chafe really bad on my underarms.

This is your answer. I wear Old Spice deodorant and have no problems. Once I accidentally bought it with the antipersperant and had your exact issue.

Been wearing old spice for years. Early on it burned, but now I have no problems. If it's dry put on some lotion before you go to bed.

Or try using this stuff. I hear it's strong enough for a man.

Is it the solid stick (gross white residue in your pit hair...gross) or the gel? I use old spice sport. No problems.

You could try a natural deodorant. I was always skeptical of them. I started using one a while back and was surprised that it worked pretty well. I think it takes your body a day or so to adjust to a non-aluminum stick. But, it does adjust.

Now, if I'm going to be playing hoops or something... the natural stick isn't really enough. But, for day to day use, I'm happy with it.

Might help your problem, plus... no toxins going directly into your glands.

I have allergies to anti-persperant, I must use deodorant or I'll get a dried out rash effect in my arm pits. Not sure if that's your problem.

i WISH I had your problem (dry as a desert). Unfortunately, I'm the beneficiary of a little problem called Hyperhidrosis. NONE of the off the shelf antiperspirants work for me :( My dad really likes Crystal for men. He has sensitive pits, switched over to natural years ago, and recently discovered that this is his favorite. might give it a look

If you follow this we found something that stinks worse than your posts! :)

If you do not shower at night, maybe take a hot wash cloth and soap to your pit area and clean it so your glands can breath. Seems your deodorant works through the night too.

Old Spice Red Zone gives me a rash. And I haven't used antiperspirant in years because the aluminum is bad for you. It also causes your clothes get yellow. Try going with just a deodorant. If that doesn't work change brands.

You are having an allergic reaction to the deodorant. Deodorants like Old Spice use pretty powerful chemicals and your body is reacting to something in the deodorant.

I had the same problem with Mitchum deodorants, I'd use the deodorant and the next day my armpits would be on fire. I've had other reactions like this to other deodorants that use a strong scent to mask B.O. I have to use a way less powerful deodorant or my skin just flames up.

I used to use Axe. I'll either do that, steal some of my girlfriend's pure stuff or go all natural. Basically I will do anything other than use Old Spice.

Keep your pits maintained with a standard metrosexual pimped out ninja trimming. Not shaven, trimmed I said! Then, apply some lobster semen and sand crane egg embryo to the area and that will take away the scent and rash.

Dude I don't have enough lobster semen for both my hair and my pits. That ish is expensive... unless you're in Maine... where it's wholesale.

Use your beard trimmer, if you have one, and shave your pits.

Mitchum.

Use that stuff. Goes on slick, smells good and feels great too. Does not give chaffing and feels great for her...It cleans off easy too in the shower.

You might have a skin infection. I've had the same. Are your pit glands swollen?

See a doctor.

Don't go cheap on deodorant. I use Burberry:

Look it's even on sale, almost half price:

I dont like the solid stick, it leaves the white residue, clings to your pit hair and generally blocks pores, which causes all kinds of zits...which is just uber gross. Plus it stains your shirts. I would try switching to a gel or a natural deodorant and shaving the pitticles.

Most of these men's body washes use alcohol, which dries the **** out of your skin. Also, it might smell awesome but only lasts at most 6 hours. I'm not 14, I dont want to use a Jersey Shore sponsor.

I dont care how girly it sounds, I use Nivea with orange and bamboo extracts. Keeps the skin nice and healthy. Use old spice sport. Little cologne, and BAM. I smell awesome.

A bunch of your responses are correct in that it's the antiperspirant and not the straight deodorant. Reason being is that antiperspirant closes your pours and does not allow you to sweat which is an important function. Deodorant allows you to sweat, it just masks the odor. Your sweat glands are swelling and hurting. Went through all this about 35 years ago and after switching to deodorant, has never happened again.
