Man, it blows my mind that they could pull this off like they did.

I absolutely love the Bends, OK Computer, Kid A, and Amnesiac. Especially Amnesiac. For some reason I just can't get into listening to the last two albums. I hope this is something better.

I think their sound kind of ran its course the last two albums but they're smart guys and I won't count them out. I could see them innovating here. You never know.

I thought Hail to the Thief was a mixed bag (the band has admitted as much, saying they tried to do their recording sessions a lot quicker than they usually like). I think a lot of the songs off that album sound much better live as the album production sucked the life out of several of them.

I'm a big fan of In Rainbows, though. I think it stacks up well against OK Computer and Kid A as one of their best. Also struck me as their most approachable album in a decade, but maybe not for everyone.

The first time I heard Kid A (the album, not you), I was all "WTF is this shiat?" I came around pretty quickly after a listen or two. I kept trying to give In Rainbows the same patience, but I just don't have it. Maybe I'm getting old.

"Idioteque" is awesome. There is a version of "Creep" that is really good too. It's video is from some French film with Johnny Depp.

Couple listens in.

Can see where this kind of grew from the same vibe as some of the more stripped down stuff on In Rainbows. And Thom's electronica stuff/The Eraser. Very consistent mood throughout. I can foresee this not being everyone's cup of tea.

Good early summary of it:

http://arts.nationalpost.com/2011/02/18/first-listen-radioheads-the-king-of-limbs/

At this point, you can basically categorize Radiohead records in two ways:

1. For the people.
2. For the people who really, really love Radiohead.

Under the former category are The Bends, OK Computer, All Hail to the Thief and In Rainbows. Under the latter, Kid A, Amnesiac and, now, The King of Limbs.

Like Kid A, the new eight-track “Newspaper Album” was not recorded with the bulk of Radiohead’s audience in mind. It’s a challenging, glitchy record with no proper singles, save for maybe “Lotus Flower,” a video for which was released Friday morning along with the downloadable version of The King of Limbs (apparently when they said Saturday, they meant Saturday in Australia).

But if you think the reaction for Kid A was divisive — it’s usually either a Radiohead fan’s clear-cut favourite or unquestionable least favourite — there will likely be an even further gap between love and hate for The King of Limbs.

...

The twisting melodies on top of the album’s frenetic beats are every bit as strong as anything on In Rainbows, but if you are looking for guitars, you are in for a massive letdown — there are next to none.

Four tracks in and I'm bored.

EDIT: Full listen now. I'm not impressed. I like tracks, 4, 6 and 8 enough. I quite liked 8 especially... however this is nothing new... and Yorke's moaning is starting to get a bit annoying to me. I've come to realise that radiohead are very much limited to their use of traditional instruments no matter how much they try to innovate with recording. Post In-Rainbows I find their beats simple and annoying a lot of time. This doesn't come close to their earlier stuff either.

America is now ahead of the UK in musical innovation. They have been for a few years now. I think a lot of Animal Collective's stuff kills this.

I think it's quite good. I am a little disappointed there's not even a single "rocker" on it, but oh well. For what it is, I like it.

Put the headphones on and pay attention.

Kid A is the best album they have made.

OK Computer is the most "important", as it signaled the turn from Pixies-based rock influence into what Radiohead was doing at the time. Kid A completed the full turn.

I like all of them, but Kid A, Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief are my faves. The good songs on Hail to the Thief are few and far between, but they arent just good, theyre great. "Sail to the Moon" is gorgeous. "2+2=5" is alot of fun. "Sit Down. Stand Up." is one of the top Radiohead tunes, IMO. Brilliant.
