Does is probation allow him to leave the state of Ohio?

I never really thought he was all that special anyway, he seems to be held in high esteem round here after that Patrick Ramsey pick-6 during the Detroit beatdown...

He would be an upgrade over Williams, anyone remember the last time we picked up a DT from the Lions?

Just got off the phone with him, He told me that McDaniels is tearing the team apart and wants nothing to do with Denver.

I tried.

I think he would be a great addition, especially if we are going back to the 4-3. He has the size and strength to play 3-4 NT, but he was at his best playing a penetrating DT in a 4-3. Definitely an upgrade to what we have at the position.

I'll add him to the "want list" with Ngata, Soliai, Mebane, Cofield, and Cullen Jenkins. Just hoping to snag one of those DTs in free agency, whoever doesn't get franchised.

Does anyone know if we can sign players recently cut, since it isn't necessarily in the FA period?

I see we signed people to future contracts and teams have been cutting players.

I can't imagine any decent player signing before a CBA is approved. If they are moving in the direction we think, there should be less money for rookies and more for veterans.

You can sign any free agent up until the league year ends March 3. So Denver could sign Shaun Rogers today. They can't sign anyone who is set to become a free agent on March 3. They can re-sign their own players as well, like Champ Bailey. But until a new CBA is worked out there won't be much of that, if any.

You seriously have to look into the reasons why the Browns released him, is it because Rubin is so damn good or infact Rogers aint all that and is costly???

I see a bunch of fodder.

Their best players are all homegrown though. Suh, Avril, Levy, Delmas, etc.

With all the young incomers I hope that we bring in this offseason, they need playing time. He is already 31 and has some question marks.

completely unrelated to the thread, but I have a question on the franchise tag. you pay the franchised player the average of the top five at the position for that year, right? what happens if some portion of the top five paid players at that position for that year...are franchised players? we get all recursive and there is no longer a point of reference

mentioned him not to compare his career to rodgers, but he was yet another guy this team relied on to come in and fix the dline, or atleast provide valuable depth, and he did nothing. expecting any FA to do it isnt going to work, its gotta start at the draft.

Not really. You get solid players when you can get them, no matter where it comes from FA/draft.

The concern with Shaun will be his effort. He seems to love his fresh starts though, so if we signed him he should dominate for at least the first year. Would be a monster player to have if we switch back to a 4-3, as well.

This smacks of a Shanahan maneuver, but if it takes Fairley off the draft board and lands us Peterson, I'm all for it.

If we could get 2 solid years from the dude, he'd be the best DT we have.

razorwire77
02-09-2011, 08:23 PM
Best case he gives us a couple of years as a solid starter as Fox builds a young defense. Worst case he's shot and a malcontent and we cut him after a year.

Bring him in.

I think he's worth a shot! We need some talented big bodies, and he has a good 2 or 3 years left in him. He's would be the best DT we had in God knows how long. We could still grab a young DT like Jerry Powe or Marvin Austin in the late second-early third round.

exactly. the guy said we can't fix the D through FA

not to mention the production they got out of Turk McBride and Lawrence Jackson.

We are the Denver Broncos...the only thing we "fix" through free agency is the long snapper position. Oh wait.

I know that oh, the last decade or so of his moves in FA werent so hot, but the b2b SB defenses we had were built via free agency. Alfred Williams, Neil Smith, Darrien Gordon, Tyrone Braxton (who we got back after having signed with MIA), Keith Traylor (Another Bronco we got back), Romo, Crockett, etc.

You CAN find pieces in FA, it's just easy to overspend/overvalue.

Shaun is a weird guy, like most good DT's. He has rare skills for a huge Body and can play downright dominant or non-existant. I worry mostly about his mental game and why he has been so spotty as a player. Why is he so damn inconsistent? Is he not disciplined this many years into the league?

DEN has to rely on their pro-scouts and league sources to answer these questions before pursuing a guy like Rodgers. My question is who makes the call on this type of FA? I am not sure I like the answer.

ESPN 980 Washington's Chris Russell confirms free agent DL Shaun Rogers will visit with the Redskins on Friday.

The 'Skins are moving fast, perhaps in an effort to beat the Texans and Cowboys to the punch. Viable nose tackles are hard to find, and several teams are in the market even with Rogers' performance on the decline.

According to ESPN Dallas' Calvin Watkins, close to 10 teams are interested in free agent Shaun Rodgers.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that Rogers has been contacted by "multiple" teams. Rogers is visiting the Redskins Friday, though it's believed to be nothing more than an exploratory meeting. Rogers is best used on a four-man line as a disruptive pass rusher, but he can still be effective as a more conventional nose tackle if necessary.

Rogers has potential to be a really useful role player on a good defense. The Saints sound like a really good fit for him, they're solid enough in the front seven to use him sparingly.
