I have about a month before I'm going to buy Dragonage II. I just finished Assassin's Creed II. Help me pick my next game. I have it narrowed down to three but am open to suggestions. FYI I never buy new titles unless they are Bioware and you have to to get the bonus features, so that's why I'm looking at older titles.

Hmm...

In February, Bulletstorm and Killzone 3 are coming out. In early march Dragon Age II, Homefront and fear 3.

I am going to get Dragon Age II and Homefront. They look good, and I need something to do over spring break.

I played the original Dead Space...freaky game. Really good though. the sequel looks awesome. And if you liked ACII, AC: Brotherhood would be a good pickup. I loved ACII, even if the story was completely insane. Something about being an assassin in renaisance italy is just awesome.

I voted RDR, and can tell you it's very good. It'll immerse you into an older time filled with an unlimited amount of hunting/skinning of just about any animal you can think of, TONS of side missions ala grand theft auto, card games, wagon chases, treasure hunts, pistol duels after cheating in card games....it's a truly unique game. VERY good time playing it, and it'll last you that month till dragonage comes out.

Fantastic pickup imo.

I have three great options, each one of the best best games of it's type and better yet, cheaper than any of the other options you've listed.

Limbo: This is an incredible, atmospheric physics puzzle game on Xbox Live. It's a side scroller, which makes it kind of a throw back at first, but once you get into the game and start solving some of the puzzles you'll see it has a Half Life 2 or Portal kind of brilliance to it.

World of Goo: Amazingly fun puzzle game, both on PC and iPad. Highly recommend the iPad version, because using your fingers to interact with the world feels cooler than using a mouse. Hard to describe, and the gameplay evolves wickedly as you progress, so what starts out as a light hearted bridge building game turns into a brilliant and joy filled brain teaser.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The scariest game I've ever played, and I've played most games. If you play it in the dark with the sound up and no one around, you'll have more freak out moments than you ever had playing a game. Not just cheap, fun thrills like in Dead Space or Resident Evil, but also true moments of horror. The kind of slow burn that ultimately makes you afraid to look at the screen when the **** hits the fan.

Skip any more Ass Creed...if you've played it for 10 minutes, you've played the entire experience. Red Dead is great, but takes a while to get into, and never really gets to the awesome point I thought it would.

Your not alone. I still think its a great game but I lost all interest in it well before I finished it. Exact same thing happened to me with GTA 4, something about Rockstar games that just doesn't do it for me anymore.

AC Brotherhood is very good, but if you've just played AC2 it might be a bit too much.

Dead Space is really good if you like that sort of game.

If you haven't played Star Craft 2 and you like RTS I'd go with that over those games.

I just picked up DS2 for PC a few days ago for something to do while I wait for Rift to come out next month. I usually don't go for survival horror type games, but I'm really enjoying the game play, and I find the story to be very engaging. Even if you don't play it next, you should try it eventually.

Here's my all time favorites (yes copious amounts of nerd games):

Dragon Warrior 4

http://www.lordyuanshu.com/images/DWIV/Hero%20Chapter/DWIVHerowagon.png

http://blog.lib.umn.edu/kras0047/walkthrough_faq/images/balzackdw4.PNG

The graphics and sound hold up terribly, but it's one of the bet RPG's ever from the series that gave birth to the genre. Lots of freedom like the rest of the DW series, great play and pure in it's leveling and buying weapons/armor format (my main complaint with the FF series).

Star Wars Battlefront 2

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTskspt94OVlvm0nTFM6pYUiRL7RmEc_ SlfovRiZqnR8vEoeGw&t=1&usg=__lQSLUbKS8rOhYAC-nBRNos560Qc=

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQnbv2CnsdJj2Bi44Otc9tothQDLnQSA fuAP5rdjtDgvejclcA&t=1&usg=__3XVNrYKA_nIO3fAUl5Rb_HUTOdA=

Maintains an awesome story while giving you non stop action packed play.

Suikoden

http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQdF4VUAZHuZjlmpetZr_U0hQALa0pf1 sA1DQui65JsqpJxZbo&t=1&usg=__dMD0v7CNe1uNsnmW5-6UAPiedGI=

The Suikoden series is ****ing awesome. You get cool but not overdone story lines and a ridiculous amount of customization with it's 108 characters to play with.

Final Fantasy 3

http://thegamereviews.com/userfiles/image/Final%20Fantasy%20VI/kefka.jpg

I think this game edges FF2 because you get a little more freedom with which characters you want to play and when and the additional side quests. Also, any game that gives you the best weapon in the game close to the beginning adds an extra touch of fun, imo.

Betrayal at Krondor

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQD3azI3GpbcBBHy4OWgeHzkYh74lDya cQ3K4k29sAmni8K6kA&t=1&usg=__K7iZ7bpQ4xgUiRbjQ54tWva7iTw=

http://www.abandonia.com/files/games/208/Betrayal%20at%20Krondor_5.png

http://www.oldschoolapps.com/files/img/Betrayal_at_Krondor.png

Maybe my favorite game of all time. Gives you complete freedom from the start, great storyline (goes with the Raymond Feist book series), extremely great "leveling" system (it's more like skilling up in WoW, only slower and you can pick which specific abilities you'd like to emphasize melee, crossbow, defense, casting, stealth, scouting, etc).

Jagged Alliance

http://www.gameclassification.com/files/games/jagged-alliance.gif

Turned based strategy game with RPG elements where you hire mercenaries and conquer an island zone by zone. Have to manage your finances, team, sector defenses, capturing refineries through stealth before the incumbents can sabotage them, and mercenaries have interpersonal relationships along with reactions to heavy turnover and deaths. Even more bad ass than it sounds.

Lunar the Silver Star (Sega CD version, not the PS2 garbage)

The game doesn't provide much freedom, but it does stay true to the basic RPG leveling/buying weapons and armor, and is just remarkably fun from start to finish. Great storyline despite being remarkably transparent.

Ultima 7

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQKjHa0nheZdJOqQKT0yvIYM2QsboW9O S-bMWkFxCGZyKt3fVo&t=1&usg=__1BU0vi5W9tAYxQfa5u-eGwv77b4=

Ground breaking game from one of the major pioneers in RPGs. I'm at a loss for words when it comes to describing the awesomeness they managed to produce for 386 PC's, so I'll just say: the game had everything.

Wing Commander 2

I'm getting sick of companies that sell watered-down games out of the box and then charge extra for the "bonus content" which is really just things removed from the normal game. You end up throwing down another thirty bucks just to have all your options. :gripe:

Xbox magazine has had a couple of articles about that (as well as the one-time codes for online play, etc.) They feel it will continue to get worse and worse (from the gamer perspective)

I'd go with RDR, then you can get the zombie add-on, which is supposed to be really good too (never like AC1, so didn't go that route)

craigslist ftw. Just bought AC Brotherhood for 30 bucks.

And if you're going to go with an fps, PLEASE TRY battlefield bad company 2. I used to LOVE MW2, but now this has firmly taken over the #1 spot. It's absolutely incredible how addictive and fun it is.

Is there any original content for AC Brotherhood that is no longer available for free if it's bought used?

I'm getting sick of companies that sell watered-down games out of the box and then charge extra for the "bonus content" which is really just things removed from the normal game. You end up throwing down another thirty bucks just to have all your options. :gripe:

I looked around, and you're not missing much. Two different characters in the multiplayer, and three extra missions in the game. From what I can tell, NONE of the preorder stuff affects completion percentage or gives anyone advantages.

There is some new downloadable content, some maps and modes, for online multiplayer...they're free.

this is the best site I've found with everything in one spot for the game: http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Assassin%27s_Creed:_Brotherhood_downloadable_conte nt

all kidding aside. Red Dead Redemption is a cool game. when you finish it, you have the feeling the whole thing was a bit like a good Western movie. the original soundtrack is really good too. the song over the closing credits is noteworthy.

Actually, that usually isn't what happens at all. What happens is that you build a game for 2-3-4 years, and at the end of it all you have 40-50 people staffed up with a bunch of tools at their disposal, but they can't do much because the game has been locked down and will be going through testing and manufacturing for the next two months.

So what do you do? Fire a bunch of people? That used to be the case.

Well, nowadays with easy means of digital distribution, you have those people start immediately on DLC content...extra levels, missions, etc...stuff they build for the game AFTER the game has been completed...but stuff they can't put into the game because you'd just have to start the whole testing/certification/manufacturing all over again.

That stuff is typically ready by the time the game has already his shelves, so it leaves the impression that it's 'extra' content that they withheld from the game.

More and more, you're going to see games shift to this model, and games and their sequels will become more episodic and less 'epic blockbuster' that you're used to now.

I would hold off on the add on packs. The game itself is pretty epic with lots to see and do, and truth be told you'll probably be tired of it by the end.

this is exactly how i felt. Great game, but by the end I couldnt get the motivation to do the extra stuff. Riding the horse everywhere lost its nostalgia fast so i always did the campsite thing to get around.

I'm currently playing Mass Effect 2 again.

On Insanity it's quite a rewarding challenge. Go Infiltrator, Soldier (easiest by far), or Sentinel though.

I'm in the same boat. Best game I have played in many years. Sentinel first time around and will be an evil Adept for the second go around.

Undead nightmare is pretty cool. I thought it was worth it, plenty of extra stuff to do and extra things to pick up. Worth the $10 I paid for it. I haven't tried any of the other add-ons.

I got all the extra stuff that was for the main character, so didn't do Leliana's song or the Darkspawn series. I really enjoyed the game but I think some of the characters were kind of lame and that hurt the series, including: Alistair, Wynne and Leliana. I don't like "silent" main characters and thankfully they are doing away with that.

I liked how they let you know your actions could have ramifications long term on the next chapter. My only thing is I only had the patience to play it through once.

I just beat the game. And just in time since Dragonage came out. I was able to get Marston to Legend of the West before the ending. I wish I could have had a go at the agents with a full bar of dead eye. I replayed the part three times before realizing I was supposed to lose the encounter. Not a fan of son-of-Marston's mustache either. It was a dramatic way to wrap up Marston.

Anyway, I'll be picking up DAII tonight. :strong:

I get why people liked it and I agree with some of the criticisms. The wanted missions are crazy because they send and endless number of bandits after you and you can end up killing more than the entire combined populations of two towns. The random encounters had some that worked and others didn't. I liked the duels, the bandits randomly riding into town, and even the thief ones. The guy that throws you off your horse is annoying and dumb. There were more animals than I cared for, particularly wolves too. They should give you luxury items to buy as I had a crap load of money and little to spend it on. I'd also like to see fewer weapons or else more instances where you need all of them. I basically used the knives for stealth, the rifle for range, sniper for long range. I sometimes used the shotgun. The only guns I switched around a lot were the pistols.

Loved the story and especially the characters. Really enjoyed Mexico for that reason. It is well balanced and it was able to remain challenging enough well into the game. I'm not a fan of westerns in general and I really enjoyed this game.

I actually hope they do a prequel where you get to hit the old west right after the civil war. I'd love to see more Indian fights and less technology. That would be cool.

Great stuff...I would agree with just about all of it. I actually LIKED the amount of animals, simply because it was fun for me to just roam around hunting. I wish they'd elimnate the time it takes to skin. Did you unlock a lot of the costumes? I believe, the high stakes poker outfit, is the one that lets you cheat in the card games. Easy way to do some more dueling (just botch the cheating attempt).

I also would've liked to see a little more done with the money, and agree there were too many guns that you didn't really need.

HOPEFULLY, they come out with some kind of a prequel, scalping people would be a nice addition. Glad you liked it

I should try cheating. I got the fancy suit so I should give it a go. I did get many of the costumes, but not all and didn't care to. And I agree, the skinning was annoying in a lot of ways. It takes way longer to really skin something, and for a guy like Marston who has been through hell and back and certainly skinned everything imaginable, saying things like "this is gross" and "you stink" is completely out of character. When did he turn into one of the real housewives from Orange County?

I might. It seems like a fun setting to just unload on things. However for now my priority is Dragon Age II, Castlevania, ACB. If the price on used games for one of those hasn't come down to my liking yet, I'll shoot zombies. :)

It's a skill tree system. I really liked the first one. The story is excellent and the characters are always pretty good. DA origins had some main characters that were completely boring but there were more than a few I loved. Basically it depends on your class. The fighting is real time but you can pause the game to give your team orders since you can only control one characters at a time (but can jump between them at any time.) Real time combat means they have to take out the potion to drink it, read the scroll to cast, etc so if you're close to death and he whacks you before you chug the heal, you're toast.

I know your choice of RPG's and I think you'd like it. The first one's overall story arch is pretty epic and actually really funny in a dark way. I the expansions are actually worth it too. Definitely play the first one first though.

I did that glitch on an attempted second play through. There's also a gold trick where if tap sell and then buyback real quick you can get double what you paid for it so the vendor is paying you. If you sell an epic item and buy it back you can get a lot of money quick. I decked my team out with the best of everything.
