Wow. Rumors that he was in trouble all season long, but after the owner dealt the way he did with Young, I thought he'd keep Fisher.

I doubt it was Fisher leaving of his own accord after finally seeing the back of Young.

This late into the offseason with all the major jobs gone, this is a pretty low class move by the ownership to a guy that has been nothing but all class for Tennessee.

Actually it wouldn't shock me to see Shanahan oust Haslet and Fisher agreeing to come on board. They are BFFs and it has been a full 2 seasons since Shanahan has replaced his DC. He must be itching. Snyder has the money to pay Fisher a huge salary and would certainly make Washington a team to fear.

I'm just wondering if it wasn't some sort of argument regarding whether or not Newton would be the pick if available in the 1st that finally broke the camel's back.

Maybe. Though the bridge was burnt by Fisher, Young is still officially with the team and, if a new bridge is built by the owners, could remain in Tenn. While the rest of the NFL and its fans could see Fisher was a sub-average HC and Young has Pro-Bowl ability, I wonder if it took the removal of Fisher's scapegoat for Bud to realize he'd stood by failure rather than those that win games - the players. Bowlen made the same mistake by watching his franchise burn because he stuck with McD.

Just like facial tattoos, anyone with a 'stash looks like a total tool that should return to the 70's or 80's when ugliness and subserviance was 'in'. Fisher's is especially bad, yet represented the culture of Tennessee well.

Fisher was the catalyst for a whole series of bad things that have happened in Dove Valley.

1) Fisher recommends that Shanny draft Cutler
2) Shanny trades up and drafts Cutler
3) Plummer sulks and then sucks
4) Cutler promoted to starting QB
5) Broncos miss the playoffs in 2006
6) Plummer quits
7) OM explodes
8) Cutler starts as QB in 2007
9) Broncos miss the playoffs
10) Cutler starts as QB in 2008
11) Broncos miss the playoffs
12) Shanny fired
13) OM explodes
14) McD hired
15) Cutler sulks and is traded
16) OM explodes
17) Orton starts at QB in 2009
18) Marshall and Scheffler sulk
19) Broncos miss the playoffs
20) Marshall and Scheffler traded
21) Hillis traded
22) OM explodes
23) Tebow drafted
24) OM explodes
25) Orton starts at QB in 2010
26) McD fired
27) Tebow promoted to starting QB

Dude is a good coach but not a great coach. His teams are usually tough and physical but lack discipline. He's been there at TN for ages. I think the guy needs a year off to recharge the batteries and get away for a bit.

Broncoman13
01-28-2011, 02:35 AM
I guess Fisher was trying to hire his son as a Quality Control Coach and Bud didn't like the idea of bringing in family to coach. That was the proverbial straw that made Bud decide there was just too much they were not seeing, eye to eye.

I think Fisher will end up taking a year off unless a surprise team decides to part ways with their coach. I could see that happening still, but my guess is that he will wait until 2012 to take another HC position.

Eh, I think Fisher needs a break anyway. He'll probably become a commentator and wait for the right job to open up, so he'll be another Cowher/Gruden.

Although the Titans are pretty screwed unless they can somehow convince Cowher or Gruden to take the job. The only other options are perhaps a coordinator from a playoff team. But is anyone going to want this job this late when all the assistant coaches are basically set with their teams? Its going to be difficult to put together a staff this late. They'll likely have to go with some lame duck hire who will be gone at the end of the year. Titans look to be banking on a lockout.

Does Vince Young stay in Tennessee?

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Titans still plan to trade or release Vince Young following Jeff Fisher's exit as head coach.

Interesting. The Titans' front office had clearly soured on V.Y. by the end of the season, but owner Bud Adams remained a staunch supporter. This news suggests the fissure between Fisher and Adams runs deeper, and perhaps that Fisher had seen the writing on the wall for weeks. Per NFL Network's Michael Lombardi, Young's lack of work ethic is "legendary" in the locker room and around the NFL. With his trade value in the tank, Young is as likely to be released as traded. Fisher has no control over sulking QB's and if even remotely true, doesn't this show that Shanahan didn't have a mind of his own? I don't think so, with his ego that's all he had and THAT contributed to that timeline.

Fisher's act was the first toppled domino that lead to all the other toppled dominoes. he didn't topple them himself, but he started the chain reaction. Shanny asked Fisher about Cutler and Fisher said great things about the kid. based on that, Shanny traded up to get him. without that endorsement from his friend, Shanny doesn't draft a QB in 2006 and maybe Plummer ends up being the starter here for another couple of years. maybe he even starts here until the 2010 draft when we get Tebow because Shanny sees the same intangibles in him as he saw in Elway and we avoid the whole Cutler years drama completely.

is it all Fisher's fault? no.
