ESPN and the University of Texas atheletic dept. jumped into bed together today and announced a 20 year TV deal worth over $300mil. The proposed network will feature all UT sports and will have original programming and historical shows ect. produced by ESPN.

WTF? I hate them even more than ever. The Yankee's(who I aslo hate but hey they are the Yankee's) don't have their own ESPN network. The Steelers or Cowboys or Bronchos don't have their own TV stations. What in hell's name is this? How do they have this big of a following?

why do you think they were ok with staying in the watered down Big 12?

IIRC, they have similar arrangements with a Boston branded ESPN.

Yeah, Texas knew this was happening and didn't want to give up those revenues, which since they control the Big ___ they keep it all. Glad CU got out of the Texas league.

There is ESPN New York, LA, Boston, Chicago etc... but primarily internet coverage.

The yankees have their own network that is probably more profitable than this.

Ah, thank you for the info. I did not know this as none of then appear in my area. I did not know ESPN did the regional gig like that.

Yeah, it will be the Longhorn TV Network, produced by ESPN. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/texas-longhorns/20110119-texas-longhorns-strikes-20-year-300-million-deal-with-espn-for-longhorn-tv-network.ece

Rumors that OU will be starting it's own channel in the future too. Pretty sweet conference you have going there, Big XII. Not economically/competitively top heavy at all or anything.

That deal that Kansas, Mizzou, KSU, Baylor, etc. made to keep Texas in the Big XII is looking better all the time.

No clue why CU and Nebraska bolted the second they had invites elsewhere.

Notre Dame basically has the same thing with NBC and their football program. NBC features all of their home games and often showcases a lot of their history and tradition.

Bingo! Not sure how good the deal is when ND is sucking eggs but it is 11 games a year for football on the channel. You have 2 or 3 on a Saturday anyways on ABC. With so many other channels showing college football, how many games wont be shown that interest you for those 11 games? Not too many I bet.

Actually Texas leads the Country in GDP. If it weren't for Texas...the U.S. would already be a 3rd world country. I'm not a native...I relocted here a few years ago...but, Texas carries this country when it comes to business:

Amarillo does suck.

But as for Texas...Its a man's state. Maybe you should move to California. Ha!

If you move to Berkeley and work for the state, they'll even pay for your sex change operation.

Austins one of the coolest cities in the US. You cant get a more eclectic mix and there's alot of great stuff to do. Its right by San Antonio as well.

And with the flood of illegal immigrants pouring into Texas only to be some day given amnesty, expect the state to grow and grow. 157 businesses relocated to Texas from California alone last year.

Texas is the place to be for the next 50 years. The business is good, the people are good, and the food is good.
