Heading to Kona in the summer for a family reunion/get-together. Were going to the Big Island and most likely will stay at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott resort. We'll have vehicles and are planning to stay about a week.

We have Golfers (not me), people who want to snorkle, dive, and do some deep sea fishing, fitness nuts (I stopped running 4miles before breakfast when I left the service), nature enthusiast/photographer/painter, "shoppers", a young child and a older teen.

Restaurants? We like to find the "local dives w/ good food" (Breakfast and lunch) and the top of the line restaurants (nite).

We would also be receptive to finding a couple of rental condos, if well taken care of and at a reasonable price.

Any suggestions or info you can pass on is appreciated.

I don't need the usual spoof reply about the "internetz". I am looking for good "1st hand info".

Thanks guys

I know where I'll be when we're there. On, in, or under the Ocean!:yayaya:

Go see Keck! Most powerful optical observatory ever ... until Hubble was launched anyway. I was there in '04, and if you like stuff like that you should go. It's a steep climb, but not Wolf Creek Pass or anything. Well worth it. http://www.ifa.hawaii.edu/info/vis/visiting-mauna-kea/visitor-information-station.html

The Kona side of the island was cleaner and newer than the Hilo side, which seemed kinda run down to me.

You'll be tempted to buy the coffee, but it's crazy overpriced, WAY overpriced. It's cheaper at home.

The helicopter sightseeing rides are expensive too (I think $140 per person), but damn well worth it, definitely go.
