Who goes number one, now? AJ Green or Mallet

There has never been a CB drafted #1 overall and for my sake I hope he is not the first.:wiggle:

AJ Green is an elite WR, maybe better than Calvin Johnson.

But I think they go with Bowers.

If Carolina stays at #1 I'm thinking it's probably Bowers.

They'll probably take Peterson.

I'll be the first

FIG Newton

If he declares and goes lights out monday the hype machine will flow.

If he doesn't Bowers

If Mallett goes first, I will quit watching football for the rest of my life.

1) Carolina Panthers: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

Other 2011 NFL Draft Possibilities:

1. Da'Quan Bowers, DE - Carolina needs to improve its pass rush. Maybe they'll look past the bad tape and prior inconsistency, and instead see Bowers as the next Julius Peppers.

2. Nick Fairley, DT - The Panthers' pass rush stinks and there's a huge hole at defensive tackle.

2) Denver Broncos: Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
Champ Bailey, who is set to become a free agent this offseason, was recently quoted as saying that he's tired of all the change in Denver. It's unlikely that he'll be back. And if he is, Bailey told ESPN that he wants to convert to safety to prolong his NFL career.

Meanwhile, it's possible that Perrish Cox could be headed to prison for a few years in the wake of recent rape allegations. The Broncos obviously need help at corner.

Cornerbacks are seldom taken in the top three, but then again, we said the same thing about defensive tackles prior to the 2010 NFL Draft. Like Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy, Patrick Peterson is a special sort of talent that doesn't come around very often.

Other 2011 NFL Draft Possibilities:

1. Nick Fairley, DE/DT - This pick is pretty much between Peterson and Nick Fairley, who would be a great addition to a horrific defensive line. Peterson, in my opinion, is the superior prospect, but John Elway may disagree. Let's see what happens at the Combine.

2. Da'Quan Bowers, DE - If the Broncos move to a 4-3, Da'Quan Bowers will be an option. Robert Ayers would be the projected left end, though he would probably have more success in a 4-3 himself...

3) Buffalo Bills: Nick Fairley, DE/DT, Auburn
Nick Fairley can play in both the 4-3 and 3-4, which will intrigue the Bills, who can't seem to decide on a defensive scheme.

Other 2011 NFL Draft Possibilities:

1. Cam Newton, QB - If the Bills like Cam Newton enough, they could conceivably take him at No. 3, though I don't think that will happen.

2. Robert Quinn, DE/OLB - Aaron Maybin is a bust and could be cut this offseason. Help is needed at rush linebacker.

4) Cincinnati Bengals: Da'Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
The Bengals would love it if Antwan Odom could successfully make it back from his latest injury, but that's not a realistic scenario. Odom has missed 22 games in the past two seasons, and wasn't even effective when he was in the lineup this year. Odom has a $4.5 million salary in 2011, so he could be cut.

Da'Quan Bowers makes sense here. He would project as a great complement to Carlos Dunlap, who had an outstanding rookie year. Plus, if there's one team that'll look past Bowers inconsistencies and poor tape, it's the Bengals.

Other 2011 NFL Draft Possibilities:

1. A.J. Green, WR - If the Panthers pass on A.J. Green, the Bengals will take him.

2. Robert Quinn, DE - The other defensive end option.

Fairley is going #1 according to all the radio bobble heads in SoCal.... Leaving us with either Peterson or Bowers.

It will be kind of interesting to see where things go with both their defense and with the position of QB.

Ryan Mallett has a huge arm and if he lights it up at the combine or on his pro-day, I wouldnt be surprised if they come to the conclusion that they need a QB and want him to be it.

It's gonna be Fairley I think. The Panthers have a terrible offense, but Rivera stated today that they are gonna stay in a 4-3, and if anyone knows the value of great DL, it would be Rivera.

I don't think a WR, even one of Green's talent will go No. 1. I think it will be a DT, DE, or QB.

If that happens and we go to a 4-3, we need to take Bowers, which could mean trading Ayers.

He's good and may be a better player right out of the gate than Megatron, but people saying that he's a significantly better prospect are kidding themselves.

We'll see what kind of combine stats he puts up, but I would guess that they don't beat Johnson's 4.35 40 and 41" vertical at 6-5 236 lbs. Calvin Johnson is a freak athlete in every sense of the term and he is great as a receiver on top of it.

Yeah I would hate having a surplus of good defensive players.

Lol yea, because we have so much defensive talent that we should just be trading promising young guns away.

AJ's hands blow away Johnson's. It's not even close. Calvin Johnson's speed and size are better, but overall I tend to think Green is a (slightly) better prospect.

How promising is Ayers?

Well he's a former first round pick going into his third year after being on two horribly coached and manned teams, so i'd say the arrow is still pointing up. Not to mention, what kind of compensation do you honestly think could be had in return for him?

No way, you keep Ayers. He is a 3 down DL. 1st and 2nd he plays DE shutting down the run. 3rd down he moves inside and gets solid push from the middle with speed and strength. This also allows Doom to stay fresh and have full gas for passing downs. I think Doom could end up with 15 sacks if he is fresh for those situations. He is a liability vs the run, why not use him for what he is... A pass rush specialist!

I would tend to agree. There's nothing wrong with subbing Doom on obvious running downs so that he is 100% on 2nd and 10+ and 3rd and 5+. That is if we have a guy who is clearly much more stout against the run and isn't completely useless against the pass to sub in for him.

There is no way that's true. Calvin Johnson was known for having the best hands in college football when he came out. Green may be marginally better, but he doesn't "blow his hands away." Route running maybe, but not hands.

AJ Green will be a stud, just not sure if he will be better than Calvin Johnson.

Johnson could very well be the most talented receiver in the NFL if only he wasn't Detroit.

I've seen some sites now posting that Carolina will take Gabbert first. They said that Blaine will blow everybody away with his skillset over the next two months and move to the top slot.

I hope the latter part is true and Carolina doesn't take him! Trade back time in Broncoland!

Wouldn't surprise me. A QB always can jump up to the top of the draft quickly. Bradford did it last year and he had to jump some of the best DL prospects in a while.
