i love bronco trivia, so since we did the superbowl trivia how about trivia exclusive to our team. the questions are from a calendar i got for christmas. ill ask a list of questions i got right, and then a couple i didnt. im curious to see how everyone does compared to my answers. i had a buddy at work ask me all these questions and more. some were so easy as to not be worth including. believe it or not, one of the questions was "what number did elway wear?" any bronco fan over the age of 5 that doesnt know that should be disowned. anyway, here goes.

Gus Frerotte has the record for most yards in a game.
Elway passes 4000 yards twice (I think). It was one year with Fassel as OC, so that was probably the '93 or '94 season. I think he did it once under Shanahan as HC.
Elway and Frerotte had thrown for 5 TDs, can't think of the other one.
I think Simon Fletcher holds the record for most sacks in a season and career.
I think Elways first comeback was against the Chargers.
Mike Anderson played in the highschool band.
If the most net yards was set in '94, I would say Glenn Milburn got that.

12 is Shannon in the KC game last year.
Spider's wrong on the most point scored at 42 since they put up 45 on KC in Denver this year, but I don't know what the all-time point mark is.

one more down. i said 6. i remembered alot, but i was astounded when i watched the highlights. EIGHT to's in one game? amazing.
worse was when i watched the highlights i realized we shouldve had that game save for stupid play. forget all our turnovers for a second. ill point to two other plays. one is butch johnsons catch in the endzone. if they had replay, that wouldve come back. he never had control. the other is the johnson fumble that we shouldve recovered for a td. i dont remember the player but it went RIGHT through his hands. cowboys kept possesion. just those two plays and thats a 14 point turnaround. anyway, i remembered us being blown out, when in reality we gave it away.
okay, 6 questrions left. anyone?

Wild shot on 17 , but would it be Nebraska ?
18. I know the Broncos turned it over twice in the second half , I was thinking once in the first , but if 3 isnt correct , then it is 2 ....
19. this one is tough 46 points vs the Jets ( brain fart earlier )
20. Tripika is correct , if Morton isnt I would then Guess Charlie Johnson .........
8 TO in SB 12 . No wonder I have blacked out most of that SB ;D

thats pretty funny since i make my son listen to my stories all the time.
when he was little he finished his prayers with "...in the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Ghost, and God bless John Elway"
my wife didnt appreciate it too much but i thought it was the cutest thing id ever seen. every sunday i bore him to tears telling him about old bronco games until he finally says "can i PLEASE go skateboard (or watch tv, play games, etc.) now?"
when he was 4 years old someone asked him if he wanted to be a raider fan. he said "no way. my daddy would make me move"
classic!!
he's 12 now so its not cute anymore, but he still has to listen to my stories.
gotta love those kids!!

Plus Upchurch muffed a punt which technically does not count as a turnover. So make it 7 actual turnovers, 8 for the game.
Upchurch's muff really makes it 9. That was in the first half also.

last couple answers for spider and anyone else who cares.
#2-four games is correct, though it was brian griese who set that mark in '02
#17- im proud to say the answer is the university of colorado, though im guessing the reason for this would be the high concentration of home grown players who signed with denver in the 60's. either way, i was happy with that answer.
#19- the answer is 50 even. this was the hardest question to me, since it wasa 1963 game against the chargers. final score our broncos-50, san diego- 34.

His 67 yard KO return was thing of beauty, huh?
If memory serves me right, we missed out on two early opportunities to jump all over Dallas. There was a fumble inside their 5 that we failed to recover...and they fumbled on the first play of their initial drive to start the game.
I know alot of people hated Reeves...but just as they use to wonder the "what if's" about John running Mike's offense his entire career, I have to wonder how we'd had done in that game running Dan's over Red's.
Morton ran Dan's offense exceptionally well....'81 comes to mind as one of the best seasons by a Broncos QB ever up to that point of the franchise's history.

Ok here is a somewhat detailed trivia question.
Against what team did Mike Shanahan get his first regular season victory as head coach of the Broncos?
What was the score?
Did John Elway have more than 300 yards passing?
How many completions against total attempts did Elway have?
What station televised the game?

Good memory Breck. Thats right, 22-7 over the Bills in the season opener, and yep it was on TNT on sunday night. Elway had over 300, i believe it was 314 or 317, he was 17-31 passing. I remember that, it was on or close to my birthday so i basically said just get me a Pizza and let me watch the game in peace with no one around. It was great, first play elway audibled and threw a deep corner to Sharpe for a big gain.

That was TD's first game and he even burrowed for the clinching TD in the win over the Bills. Elway also threw a beautiful stretch route to Shannon on Denver's first play and it covered 50 some odd yards.
But like 4 other drives that night, Elam hit one of his 5 FG's.
There was also some play in that game that made me think that the Michael Dean Perry signing was huge. Perry knifed through the Center Guard gap all night and someone ****ed up Jim Kelly on a sack. Perry was a monster that night.
It's funny, but don't you remember individual games, especially if you were partying for them?? I was at a great Labor Day weekend Sunday party and watched that game on TNT. And if the 10 game time beers weren't enough; the celebratory ones at the end of the 22-7 win finished the job.

The Broncos beat the Jets 46-3 during the week 2 home opener in 1976. It is also the most lopsided win in franchise history.
Merlin Olsen's brother Phil didn't even know he was the Center for the most lopsided win in team history, as I told him during our phone calls for Gradishar's HOF candidacy.
Otis Armstrong and, dare I say, Steve Ramsey, both had great games as Joe Namath looked old all day. Tom Jackson ran back a Namath duck for a TD as well, in the 46-3 drubbing.

Tripucka and Charlie Johnson were ROF'ers in 1986.
Craig Morton was a first ballot ROF'er during the halftime of the 1988 Broncos Falcons game. He retired in 1982 and waited for his 5 year mandated period by Bowlen.
Poor Morton was being inducted into the ROF at halftime, but no one gave a **** as Tony Casillas bent Elway's knee 90 degrees, and Elway had to be carried off just before halftime.
Super sub Kubiak floated a 72 yard TD to Steve Sewell to clinch the 30-14 win over Atlanta that day.

Yep. I was really happy after that game, kinda pissed at the number of dropped balls, i think Ed dropped a sure fire TD. We could have killed them, easily. I liked the 1995 offense alot. Alot of the routes are familiar, straight carryover from the San Francisco offense. Ive always liked the dropback combinations. The Bingo Cross, Shallow Cross, Flanker Drive, Flanker Drive Texas, Double Cross, Dino Y Shallow, Razor Y Shallow, Z In, X Spot, Z Spot, Double Square Out, Double Go, Flanker Arrow HB Flat, Texas, HB Curl, Double Arrow, Drag-Slant, X/Z Slant/Thunder/Omaha/Train/Sluggo, Seattle, Y Stick, all the old good stuff that we dont really do anymore now. There is almost no split backs, literally no formations with the HB behind the LT or behind the RT with the FB directly behind the QB with the two WRs on the same side and the TE to the other, either in regular position or split out wide. SF and Denver always used to run the flanker drives out of that. Now its just I formation, Double Wing right, some trips, strong I/ weak I with twins and empty. When they are in the strong I and motion the flanker short near the TE, i noticed from the releases in different directions on TV, they still run Flanker Drive Texas and Flanker Arrow HB Flat, same thing when they are in the weak I with Twins. I really wish we would use more of that old 49ers stuff. The offense has changed alot. It is still very effective just now they are doing many different things from 1995-1996. One thing Shanny likes to do alot now is the Hi-Lo crosses in the middle of the field. Bring one WR on a drag route from one side of the field, and then have a guy on the other side run a Square In. The Square In holds the LBs from jumping on the drag against zones, and the middle clears for the square in against man. It has been around forever but denver is successful with it. Man i wish I had some of your tapes B-Love from different angles to see what are the new route combo's Denver has been doing lately.

I am happy at 20-7 but i know it wont last. It never lasts. Every night, we seem to be coming up with 1 or 2 run victories barely. That wont happen forever. Plus, Williams always does something to **** things up. Like trading top minor league prospects in midseason to hold onto the central lead to see it blow up in his face...twice. Or, it will be as with a few years ago, when the dream lasted the whole regular season and then we got swept by the M's in round 1. Dont mean to be negative but i just do not feel it lasting one way or another. I am happy to see good play though. Very happy so far. Glad Buehrle is finally getting recognition since the team is doing well, although he has had some consecutive poor starts that he has been lucky to eke out a win and a no decision. Garland is doing great. Developed every year. Garcia doing well but i am still stung by the trade of Reed so whenever i see Fat Ass Freddie i still cringe. Overall i am happy with the pitching. Konerko is doing great. Cant wait for the Big Hurt to come back. I really want him to be part of this, he's my favorite all time and i really want to see him get those 500 HRs. Iguchi has impressed me.
Overall, i am very pleased but realistic.

Impressive guys .......I have been a fan since 72 , I cant remeber alot of games unless somthing outstanding happens . like in 79 Morton comming off the bench to over come 21 points to beat the seahawks , or the 1991 Playoff game vs Houston , what I remember most about that game was Warren Moons facial expressions on the sideline ...
86 , 87 Games vs the Browns , Drive 1 and 2 , Castilia forcing the Fumble in 87 ..... Ken Bells Fumble on the 2 yard line setting up the Drive1 ;D Kieth Bishop "We got em right were we want them" one of the all time quotes from a Bronco during a game :D

Jack,
I received the NBC telecast of the famous Morton comeback game just recently and I nearly cried. It's that good. Marv Albert and former Bronco, Mike Haffner on the call.
First of all it was Orange Sunday, so the place was juiced to begin with. Then Weese murders us with his horrific play, and Seattle has an incredible 34-10 lead.
Morton enters to a modest ovation but quickly has the crowd on it's feet. He hits his first 5 passes to Upchurch and Moses and then he throws a Tackle Eligible TD to rookie T Dave Studdard, to close it to 34-17.
Then Bob Swenson intercepts Jim Zorn's next pass. 3 plays later Morton hits Moses with a beautiful fade pattern TD, to make it 34-24.
Another three and out for the Seahawks is followed by a shanked Seahawks punt. The place is unreal!!! Mile High is shaking as Morton quiets the crowd. Morton goes deep to Upchurch on the first play for a beautiful 34 yard touchdown and incredibly it's 34-31.
On the Seahawks next play, Zorn is sacked near his own goal line by a blitzing Tommy Jackson, and Jackson goes nuts!! The Seahawks punt and Upchurch returns it nearly 30 yards with great moves!!
Morton drives em the final 50 yards and Lytle takes it in and it's 37-34, as "Hand Grenade" Weese flops the extra point hold.
The entire 27 point comeback takes only 8 minutes of game action and is easily the greatest comeback in team history.
It's my new favorite regular season game to watch, as it highlights so many of my favorite old school Broncos. Morton is incredible, Swenson intercepts two passes and Moses and Upchurch show how dangerous they can be when Red Miller actually throws the ball.
Of course, once Denver takes the lead, Red Miller reverts to running 230 lb FB's between the guards on 1st and 2nd down and only lets Jelly Legs Morton throw on 3rd and long.
But we escape 37-34 for the win. Must have been unreal to be there.
I'll be happy to send out a few copies as this one needs to be seen by the masses.

I damn near tripped out when I started reading this thread. I just assumed it was a new one. I read Jake's first post. Then I go down and read the second post. Then the 3rd one was mine. I damn near thought I was posting in my sleep, or somebody was posting under my name. Then I figured out that it's an old thread.

Jake i think the answer to no. 19 there should be amended to 45 against the Pats in 79 and 45 against the Ravens in 1996.
but thats not correct.
the most points scored by a broncos team was 50 against san diego in 1963.

Glyn Milburn's recod setting performance came in 1995, not 1994.
We lost that game to Seattle anyway.
Can you believe that ****? 400+ yard from Glyn Milburn and we lose anyway??
thanks for correcting that.
i remembered it being around that time, so i didnt question the calendars accuracy.
i remember when it happened. my reaction was kinda like yours.
"he got over 400 yards. too bad we didnt win!!!"
if i remember right it was a 3 point game too? 27-24 or 30-27?
i hate tough losses. too many of them recently.
