View Full Version : What exactly is the compensation for Alphonso Smith? What picks are swapped?

I remember when we traded Smith for Gronkowski, there was a mention of a pick swap in this draft.

My thinking is that we are going to swap one of our 6th round picks for Detroit's 4th round pick. I think it has to be this because at the time we didn't have a 5th or a 7th round pick, and we willingly gave away a 4th round pick for Maroney after the Smith deal.

Anyone has knowledge on this?

Continuing to catch up on all the roster moves made over the weekend, the Lions (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/teams/detroit-lions) finally announced the trade with Denver involving cornerback Alphonso Smith (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71322/Alphonso_Smith). As you likely know by now, Detroit sent tight end Dan Gronkowski (http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/players/71126/Dan_Gronkowski) to Denver for Smith.
The other compensation involved with this trade is the exchange of undisclosed 2011 draft picks. It's unknown what specific draft picks were given up or if this was simply a swap of picks in one round, but it appears both teams gave up a player and a pick in this deal.

Oh, that's garbage. We don't have a 4th, 5th, or 7th round pick in this years draft. But we do have New England's and Detroit's 6th round picks.

Trash

We can safely say that from 2000 to 2010 I think we had 2 good drafts. The jury is still out on the last one I know but I think next year ALL of those guys will step up.

That's why I want the new staff in place ASAP, get the co-ordinators in place and use the picks we have wisely. On defense. DEFENSE!!!

Let's just say we use our 5 first day picks on the following guys:

1st) Patrick Peterson (Best defensive player available)
2nd a) JJ Watts or Cameron Hayword DEs (have to go DLINE)
2nd b) Jared Crick DE
2nd c) (What we get for Orton, best scenario) OLB Mark Werlick Boston College
3rd) Mason Foster ILB Washington

To me, that draft if very feasible and improves our front seven.

We have to go front seven because we have to deal with these guys for next five years

1) Jamal Charles 6.4 yards per carry!
2) Darren McFadden 5.2 yards per carry!
3) Ryan Matthews 4.4 yards per carry

All young, big studs.

thinking along the same lines BUT...we need a NT or DT instead of two DE and we need a ILB before an OLB.

On the KCNC show tonight they had a quote from Champ and he said that
he wants to WIN , and that he will go where that can happen. He pretty much said that he is gone if he gets any offers from playoff teams . And that means that Peterson is GOING to be the pick in the first.

I think that we gave them Smith, and they had Matt Millen agree to personally kick every Broncos fan in the nads for the next couple of years.
