View Full Version : Blaine Gabbert

Since the Broncos have multiple needs, I'd like to see them trade out of the 2nd spot in the draft. I think you could drop 3 or 4 picks, get an additional 2nd rounder, and use one of the their (then) three 2nd round picks to get Gabbert. I think the kid has demonstrated that he has an NFL arm, and a number of NFL skills already. Since Orton leaving seems to be a fait accompli, and Quinn doesn't bring much to the table, Gabbert would be better competition for Tebow than any of the usual suspects floating about the league.

Ultimately you win games or lose business, dood. Tebow has shown some good things, but, among others, the new Vice President of Football Operations doesn't seem entirely sold yet. He wants to take Luck.

Yeah I agree that it would be a waste to use a pick on QB without at least attempting to develop Tebow. The one down side to sucking at everything is we can improve at everything. The offense is probably the least gimpy and QB is the position of least need.

You know, Tebow really energizes the team. Seeing him bring teams back is the first time I've had hope we can come back when we're down in a long time.

Let him play for '11. If he sucks the fans will understand that we at least tried and we can use picks on other areas of the team that need help.

Tom Brady wouldn't win games with our worthless defense. We need to give our QB a chance to win and thats done with defense nomatter who's throwing the ball.

I'm certainly not writing Tebow off, but I think the jury is still out. A full season next year will answer a lot of questions one way or the other. Maybe going that high is too high, but I like what I've seen of Gabbert, and think he might offer good competition.

Thanks for the reasonable response.

Too true, but Blaine Gabbert is somehow just as bad, though he has more prototypical pocket QB attributes. We seriously have people on here thinking about picking up a QB that had 16 TDs to 9 Ints in the Big 12? With a 1st round pick?

The thread starter has seen the last three games. The thread starter isn't all in on Tebow. At least not yet. The thread starter wants to see a full season of Tebow next year, but the thread starter believes that there will be more than one QB on the roster, and doubts that Kyle Orton or Brady Quinn will be here.

The thread starter is just throwing out an idea, and is somewhat surprised by the level of defensiveness and hostility here.

So you want to waste a 1st round pick on a sub-par QB prospect to cause a QB controversy despite having major needs at many other positions on the team (most noteably any position on the historically bad defense we've been trotting out there this year)?

I agree we still don't know how Tebow will ultimately turn out. I don't have a problem trading down and picking up picks but not for another QB. Use those picks and some very good FA's and surround Tebow with the best team possible to give him the best chance possible. If Baltimore and TB can make backup QB's look good in the SB, we can do the same for Tebow with a great defense.

This. Shows flashes, but nothing (especially against top teams) that overly impressed me. Then again, I wrote off another Big XII, early exit QB in Josh Freeman and he's looking like star in Tampa.

So did I. I'm really surprised by his success.

Regarding Gabbert, he hasn't had the tools that Daniel had - Maclin or the two #1 pick tight ends - but he's got a big arm and when he's zoned in is very impressive. He probably won't last until the 2nd, so it's a moot point anyway.

Damn, another rational response! You're probably right, and the Broncos certainly need to address defense with most of their picks. I'd like to see them pick up Fairly if they stay put in the draft. They need interior linemen, not more ends or OLBs. Then make a run at Haynesworth when Washington cuts him loose, and put Doom at one end and Ayers at the other. They also need help on the offensive line. The two rookies were sieves this season, and I don't know if experience will make either of them that much better.

Freeman looked impressive in college for sure. He still may never be a top-tier QB, but he will be a starting quality player with flashes of brilliance from time to time.

Before he was drafted I posted some opinions on him here. There were alot of people here who didnt think very much of him and they were in response to those types of posts.

I seem to remember that people brushed him off...partly because we hadnt really gotten over the loss of Cutler yet.

I think that there were even some of the typical racist opinions on Freeman here..."black quarterbacks = Kordell Stewart" types of things. I remember Rohirrim being one of those racist types.

I'd much rather take a flyer on TCU QB Andy Dalton in the 3rd round than waste an incredible opportunity to draft a guy who has All Pro potential so we can get another first round QB when we have Tebow already. There is no excuse to draft anything but defense in this draft unless something bizarre happens and a guy just free-falls to us somewhere that we can't pass up. We can come out of this draft with the best DB in the last 10 years, and at least 3 defensive line candidates if we want to. This is a deep draft for D-line guys. We might even have a chance to snag Paea in the top half of the 1st round with the extra #2, and that would give us a guy who is rated closely behind the big names in the top 10 for D-linemen. That would be two blue chip players and then we'd probably have 2 #3's at least if we're trading Orton so we could easily add a guy like Dalton if we had to, but I don't see that as a priority. We might find a nice safety or an O-line guy that makes sense in the 3rd as well. We can probaly get three starters out of this draft at least, maybe four or five.

I like your thinking here. Dalton looks like a very steady, mature guy. I would rather have a big man for the middle of the DL than a DB, though, no matter how good the DB is. They really need to address both lines. I never suggested drafting Dalton in the 1st round, btw, and the consesus here seems to be that he's a 1st round guy so I suppose that's not happening.

He is a Christian though, and we dont want any more of those evildoers anywhere near the team we root for. What if both our starting and backup QB's were Christians? It would be terrible! The horror!
