Glad to see Wilkerson on the list- that's just one more DE prospect that should be there in the 2nd or 3rd round. There's absolutely no excuse for Denver not to come out of this draft with at least 2 quality DL prospects.

Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert announced Monday that he will forgo his senior season with the Tigers and enter the 2011 NFL draft.
A two-year starter as Chase Daniel's successor at Mizzou, Gabbert completed 61.2 percent of his passes and posted a combined 40:18 TD-to-INT ratio in his sophomore and junior seasons. Unlike Daniel, Gabbert is ideally built (6'5/235) and offers plenty of arm strength. Questions facing Gabbert will be his ability to adjust from a shotgun-only spread offense to a pro-style scheme, as well as suspect pocket presence and downfield accuracy. If he impresses in pre-draft workouts, Gabbert has the potential to be a top-ten overall pick.

Utah CB Brandon Burton will forgo his senior season with the Utes and enter the 2011 NFL draft.
Listed at 6'0/185 with a reported 4.35 forty time, Burton intercepted just three passes in three seasons with the Utes but was considered one of the nation's top pure cover corners. Burton also indicated that he received a favorable projection by the NFL Draft Advisory Committee, probably as a top-60 selection. He may have to run a sub-4.4 to be a first-round pick.

Thoughts on taking Burton in round 2 if we don't take Peterson?

I like Burton. I am a Utah Ute, so I have seen him play a lot. If he is there in the 3rd round it would definitely be a good pick. It seems he is going in the 2nd round of most mock drafts I have seen, so it really depends on his 40 time. He is a very good cover corner, but he is kind of a finesse player. Not really solid in run support. This is a deep draft for CB, I think we can get a quality player with the 3rd round pick. If we don't take Peterson in the 1st I am expecting it to be D-line. Then if we target NT and S in the 2nd, CB in the 3rd. Obviously it depends on who is on the board when we pick, but that is kind of the formula I am looking at for my mock drafts.

I hate to say it as a Utah fan, but he seemed to regress this year. I think a lot of it had to do with loosing coach Williams, but he got beat more then a couple of times this year. I don't think his play warrants anything higher then a 3rd, but his combine performance could change that.

The juniors are starting to declare, but The DL are not a part of it yet. If the DL don't declare I will be majorly upset. This could easily be the best DL draft ever if the underclassmen like Fairley, Dareus, Watt, Bowers, Liuget go with Muhammed and declare early.

Right now, its an above average group with few pure pass rushers. With the underclassmen, its really freaking deep and solid through 3-4 rounds.

Ryan Mallett per my fantasy league updates:

(KFFL) Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett is forgoing his senior season at Arkansas and will enter the 2011 NFL Draft, reports Dustin Bartholomew, of The Fayetteville Flyer. He started all 26 games during his two seasons with the Razorbacks. Mallett threw for 3,869 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2010, while completing an Arkansas single-season-record 266 passes on a school-record 411 attempts.

You're the man! And I think you're right about the cornerbacks being deep in this draft -- seems like we can pass on Peterson or Akamakamamamura (spelling) in the 1st and still get a pretty good CB with one of our 2nds or even our 3rd.

That is a true possibility and not a bad idea, I have actually become more favorable to the idea of taking a corner with those selections over Peterson with our top selection as the talent declaring over the past week has made that position incredibly deep.

I will have more thoughts on target players and fits for our team in the following weeks as our coaching staff is finalized. It is way too hard to put my leanings into a player at this time given such ambiguity.

Thanks for the updates again, I appreciate you guys finding the goods.

Thanks for doing that update. I will get a finalized draft done on the 16th when everything is official. Good work on the updated round status, much more concise.

And yeah, getting one of these backs would sure be awesome. This is just a solid year. We need to acquire more picks in trades. I know that people like SoCal and I always say this, but really -- IT COULDN'T HURT.

Get coaches with an identity you desire and place it on the field. Get everything cohesive. Continuity. Sad thing is, as bad as we are right now, we can still compete in this division. We need to one up our division rivals and pick up some more ammo in this draft. Get some goods for parts you don't foresee using in the future, but be wise with the compensation you receive.

McDaniels was blessed with two drafts with a good haul of picks and we have not had one true impact player emerge from them yet. (And I'm a fan of many players he drafted, just my honest thoughts.) I expect a few of those talents will make fine players someday, but we need to make sure we get players who can go from day one, make a difference and be effective.

This draft is deep. There are players who can do many things for us right here, right now well into the third round here. Any pick we have in the first three rounds need to be starting players. Have to. Day one. A lot of spots are open.

Lets kick some draft butt.

Get me some sauce for Orton and my gravy from another trade. Yee haw.

Yup -- every single year, there are excellent running backs available in the 3rd and 4th rounds. I'd like to see us pick up an extra 3 and an extra 4, and invest in quality running back depth -- in today's NFL, you need to go 3 deep at that position, and assume that all of them are going to be banged up at some point in the season.

Be nice to have a Knowshon Moreno / Shane Vereen / Ryan Williams rotation for the next four years, wouldn't it? And at a good price, too....

A few observations, now that we know all the underclassmen in the draft this year:

1) Tight end and offensive line are very, very weak this year -- the scarcity at these positions will probably cause Kyle Rudolph and Tyron Smith to be drafted much higher than they should be.

2) On the flip side, it looks like a great D-line draft. The high number of quality underclassmen coming out means we should get a quality DT or DE with pick #36. Corey Liuget and Justin Houston, anyone?

3) Ditto with the running backs -- we need to pick up an extra 3rd and 4th somewhere and pick up some quality RB depth.

Be nice if we could come out of the draft with something like this:

1 - DT Marcell Dareus, Alabama (trade down to #5, pick up and extra 3rd rounder)
2a - DT Corey Liuget, Illinois
2b - DE Justin Houston, Georgia
3a - RB Ryan Williams, Virginia Tech
3b - ILB Casey Matthews, Oregon State

Will finalize the updates and stuff tomorrow (unless that is the list) and update the main page accordingly. Sorry, I've been real busy lately.

First things first, that is a solid draft.

I don't think Casey Matthews is a 3 down LB in a 4-3 for us at the next level, but you can't underestimate his capabilities. Justin Houston seems to be the kind of guy Fox would love to have rushing the passer. Comparable to Charles Johnson and Everette Brown in Carolina. I like that DT pair better than any I can honestly think of in the draft value wise and it provides us with likely two players who could start right away.

Ryan Williams has a lot of potential, but I would probably take a different back there or go another route for a player who could have more of an impact. For me, I won't be doing any mocks with picks accumulated from trade until the CBA is signed. Right now, my value structure on picks goes like this:

1 = DL
2A = ILB / DL / S
2B = DL / S
3 = RB / OL

I think that with our first rounder a defensive lineman is extraordinarily likely because it would probably address our biggest need and pending the player could maximize potential value. I place LB, in particular ILB as a need for a true impact player in our new defense. Move DJ to WILL and draft Wilson, Jones or Sturdivant in the second round. Go with whatever grades out highest, but at least one of those would be there at one of our two selections. If a starting safety prospect like Moore or Tate is there, I would highly consider it as well.

Man, there are a lot of possibilities. I'm really looking forward to this draft We have had quite a few drafts with a lot of high picks recently and it has been fun. I hope we can get some more, but until that possibility happens, we gotta roll with six.

Wow, that draft would be epic IMHO. 3 quality DL, Casey Matthews, and a RB that I have not evaluated yet but looked solid in his bowl game.

The only thing that I think is wrong is the price to move up from 5 to 2 in this draft. It will be much more than a third rounder because the value will be more with the new contract structure the New CBA will bring. No more huge contract, no more holdouts, no more having to deal with ruthless agents trying to squeeze blood out of a turnip, and the possibility of NO FA before the draft would severely increase the value of such a move IMHO.

I think OL looks pretty good in this draft... no?

There seems to be 5 or six tackles rated in the back half of the first or early second. It's missing those top 5 talents, but I wouldn't call it weak. Combine is important for OLmen.
