Anyone here ever try out growing stuff at a Community garden?

I have been more of a flower and plant weekend warrior but thought about growing some tomatoes and pumpkins and stuff that I really don't have room for in the back what with the kids mega swing play area and all my other plantings. We tried some container plantings but they didn't produce and just ended up getting in the way.

It occurred to me to try the community thing but with an already bad back I was wondering how hard it was to pull off something like that.

Thought I could start small and see how it pans out but was looking for others experiences hauling tools and the like back and forth.

My parents have a small gardern. They planet herbs, tomatos, peppers stuff like that. I once had to help them carry the fertilizer to the backyard. Those things are really heavy.

I ddon't do the community garden, but I do have one which is about 1200 sf+ and plan to expand next year. Took a few years to condition this miserable Colorado DIRT/CLAY

Never done it before, but I have a plot reserved in a community garden down the street from my place for this coming year.
