Asomugha:
Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha got a good hit on Tebow late in the game but Tebow, who weighs nearly 250 pounds, doled out a lot of punishment himself.
"A lot of guys will either slide or they'll try to take the path of least resistance. But he's going to go head-up with a guy, every time. He's a big guy, tough to bring down," Asomugha said.
Michael Huff:
"He's a tough runner. He runs like a back," Raiders safety Michael Huff said. "Once he gets more experience throwing the ball, he'll be a good quarterback."
Quentin Groves:
"People said he couldn't be an NFL quarterback but he made some good throws, he had some good runs," Oakland linebacker Quentin Groves said. "He does what suits him best and that's what it is."
Tommy Kelly:
"He earned a lot of respect from me today," defensive tackle Tommy Kelly said. "He's a lot better athlete than you think he is. You heard so much about him and then you play him. He made a couple moves out there today that surprised me. I think he's got a bright future."

It seems like all the things that the Florida guys were telling us about Tebow are right on the money. He plays with such heart and toughness that everyone ends up respecting him. He's like Rudy Rudiger in the body of Dick Butkus.
Its interesting to me because I have never really seen a player like this in the pro's. One with the heart of a lion who plays like a rhinocerous....and has success. People talk about Bret Farve having this joyful disposition out there like a kid, but Tebow isnt just that. Its that joyful disposition at the proposition of busting heads...as a QB. Crazy stuff. It makes Tebow a unique player.

I am so confused when it comes to Tebow. Want so badly for him to be great here because it is so easy to root like hell for him, but when he plays like that he won't be very durable. Gonna be in a position to possibly get a great quarterback this draft and I really don't know whether i want us to get Luck or really truly commit to Tebow.

Fortunately, Tebow is a tough kid -- with a large frame.

You could look at it like its committing to defense.

I see no reason to think that Luck will even be considered a pick for the Denver Broncos. Bowlen knows that Tebow is not only a future QB, but is potentially the most popular player in the league. He'll have a massive following, and Broncofandom will surge to Elway-era heights if Tebow becomes a contributor.

I hear you on the injury front- every time he lowers his shoulder I cringe.
Hopefully we get somebody in @ HC who will coach him to take less punishment

I dont think that's necessary.
Tebow's a young guy. He can take punishment for another 5-7 years. He doesnt run as often as a back, and when he does run he's usually in space. The thing that kills backs over time is the repetitive slamming into the line. Tebow's 250 lbs. He's huge. When DB's see him lowering the boom, they brace for impact.
As he gets older, he'll become more savvy just like Elway did. He'll better know when to run and when to get rid of it. He may even slide some. But by that time he'll be well up to speed with NFL defenses and will be able to shift around the pocket and make the throw.

I was speaking more directly to my personal fear that he will get an inadvertent shoulder injury with the way he initiates contact and has a penchant for getting gang tackled, always a killer for a QB.
I agree, he seems like a durable player, just is in his best interest to avoid contact a little bit more for his long term health as a QB imo

I thought that was funny. Tebow goes 0-3 to start, denver has a 3rd and 24. Raider fans chanting Tebow sucks...then a 40 yard TD run. That crowd shut up pretty quick.

He did the same thing to me to a lesser degree. I'm an OU guy and he beat my Sooners for the title. In the weeks up to the game I couldnt stand the guy because its all you would hear and read about.
By the end of the game, I was a fan. Even though he beat OU and basically beat us on his own late in the 4th quarter of a close game. He beat Bradford's best team. But he was the type of guy that you dont mind if he beats you. Its like you come away thinking "well, if anybody deserved it...he did."

I would worry about Tebow getting hurt if he was built like Orton or Cutler or Brady...but he is built like a linebacker. And by the time his body no longer reacts to hits the same way, his throwing ability should compensate for a decline in running ability. Ala Steve Young, and should actually make him a bit more dangerous because of his mobility.

Agree. But he did get concussed, and if there's a cumulative effect from concussions this could be a factor down the road with his physical play. I just though the "has he been injured before" was a silly question since this was a huge story at the time and I'm not even a college football fan.
The best part of that story was Tebow's first question: "Did I hold on to the football?"

I see the "Ed McCaffrey" comparisons are now taking hold with Tebow; except in his case it's people becoming blinded by the arm he throws with instead of his skin color. His style of play and way he runs and initiates contact, not to mention his overall build, remind me far more of Steve McNair than Steve Young. I don't care how big you are. The hits take their toll. Hopefully his window stays open longer than McNair's did.

Doctors have said over and over that concussions dont have a cumlative effect. Now, i think people are obviously more PRONE to them than others and thats why people get them more than others. But theres no reason to think Tim is at risk for tons of these. He's a physical player. We drafted him to be Tim Tebow, not some drop back passer

Unless Luck falls in our lap...
He'll have to push the defensive lineman out of that lap and I hope the DL lets him have it.
It's hard to tell with Tebow, lousy play calling, a lousy team. I was very impressed with his stiff arm and with the way he continually tried to rally the troops instead of being like Orton and moping off the field with a scowl on his face.

Doctors have said over and over that concussions dont have a cumlative effect.
This is premature and incorrect, and easy to say when it's not your melon slamming off the turf over and over. The link has been established in more than a few studies, though causation has not definitively been established. Tebow may be bigger than the average qb but being reckless--like aaron rodgers, for example--is a career killer in this league. There's no honor in taking on a 260lb LB'er, nor does this demonstrate your level of toughness. Dude needs to learn how to play the position--and part of that entails knowing when to slide or get out of bounds.
He was drafted to be a star NFL quarterback, not a battering ram. We know he's got the ability to run tough but we need him to develop as a passer and as a decision maker.

I know it doesn't make a huge difference, but I'm glad he has the sense to wear one of those ugly, more modern helmets, rather than the QBs that insist on wearing the old relics.

He's a big, big... big kid. At 6-3 245lbs, he's bigger than McNair, Young, even Rothlesbeger. Hell he's bigger than just about every rb in the league. He can take the added punishment for a few seasons while he continues to develop in the passing game. By the time the hits begin to add up he will have either learned to do it with his arm or not... either way that could be one hell of a 5-7 year stint.
The team needs to find a "tebow friendly" coach and see where this goes.

He was drafted to be Tim Tebow, as Michael Vick was drafted to be Michael Vick. And as said, i think people suffer from multiple concussions because they are more prone to concussions in general...not because they've already had one.

That was a pocket sack where the LB used his helmet as a projectile and hit Tim in the jaw. That gets a flag and a fine now in the NFL.

I really don't understand why people don't seem to get this.
It appears to me anyway that a lot of people don't like the way Tebow's play LOOKS. Because he doesn't LOOK smooth.
And to be fair. . . he doesn't. Some athletes seem to glide when they run. Tebow doesn't. But he still get's the job done and more!
Think of the QB's that have those pretty mechanics, tight spirals, prototype release behind the ear like a greek statue. Well, Tebow doesn't. Yet he still get's the ball there.

I remember saying the same thing after running into a concrete light post. We were playing at the park. I was wide open about 35 yards down the field and the qb overthrew it. I had to speed up to catch it and as soon as I caught it I hit the light post. Everybody rushed to me and the first words I said did I fumble it then my friends said that is a stupid question to ask right now. Then my next question was am I bleeding because my whole right side was numb and I was feeling the sweat on my shoulder with my other hand. Awww I miss those days, not getting killed but playing football.

He make not look "smooth," but at 250 pounds he sure as hell has the game speed to run away from or run over Safeties and most LB's.

also, the QB is not going to take the kinds of hits and gang tackles that a RB would. the sorts of plays and timing of the plays where a QB runs vs. the plays where a RB takes a handoff are just different. it's not as if the QB (even if he runs an option play) is going to be running a sweep and have to worry about 4 or 5 DL/LB/CB converging on him at the edge. the hardest hits Tebow will take are on sacks when he is blindsided, just like any other QB. i just don't see much merit in the "durability" argument against a guy like Tebow running the ball. now, a discussion about the likelihood of a knee injury... that may be a different story. Tebow might be more liable to RB-type injuries as a running QB than guys like Manning or Orton who stay in the pocket.
