The First numbers are Cutler's numbers from his debut as a Denver Bronco in 2006. Like Cutler, Jay is coming in to fill in for a quarterback that has fallen flat on his face.
The second set of numbers are Orton's numbers from last week.
The final set of numbers are Jake Plummers numbers the week prior to his benching in 2006.
Like it or not, we all know that Jay is a rougher prospect then Cutler was. We also know that this offense has been unable to get anything at all going consistently this year. Lots of yards, not a lot of wins.
What numbers are people expecting from Tebow? I don't think a 2-3 TD performance is out of the question, but I don't think a 2-3 interception performance is either. Rookie QB's are doing awesome if they end up even on interceptions : touchdowns.
This offense is completely worn to the born. They are facing one of the best d-lines in football, and a good (but highly overrated) secondary. Oakland is great at shutting down the run.
The key from my point of view is to get Tebow back in shotgun all day long, where he played in college. Mix into that a number of bootleg, traps and go to the park, etc. Plays that keep the pocket clean, and keep his passing lanes uncomplicated. Stay away from screens. Stay away from three deep reads. Max protect with two receivers, not four. The spread look wasn't buying us much anyways.
Bad news is that Oakland dominates in the zone, and they are likely to do noting but zone all day long, both to put pressure on Tebow, but also because they play better that way. Tebow is going to have to capitalize on the fact that Oakland typically does not cover the first receiver all that well, and also be a constant threat.
We know that this defense can make stops the first few series of the game. If the Broncos can convert a few times, and really speed up the clock by running the ball effectively - limiting how much the defense can run, they can win this game.
What do you all expect? I really wanted them to wait till next season, but it is what it is. Anything better then zero touch downs and three interceptions is a improvement. If it's worse then that, we need to see Tebow start to improve.

It's not going to be as bad as a lot of you are predicting. Oakland has an above average defense, but they're not the reincarnation of the 86 Bears. If we can get Moreno on track early, give Tebow some 3 and 3 rather than 3 and 8 situations. He'll be OK. I imagine we'll see a couple of interceptions, a few horrible throws, but we'll also see a 3 and 5 where he breaks a tackle and scrambles for 10 yards, or a play where protection breaks down and he gets outside and makes a throw down field.

A series of winter storms bearing down on California could be the largest system the region has seen in the last decade, the National Weather Service said Saturday. Southern California will be hit especially hard by the storms, and officials are preparing for flooding and posting mudflow warnings for burn areas in the San Gabriel Mountains and in Malibu.
"This is one big mother and it's going to have a lot of waves in it," said Bill Hoffer, a spokesman for the agency's forecast office in Oxnard.
The National Weather Service said a low pressure system off Oregon has created a band moisture that starts in Hawaii and points directly at Central California.
Meteorologist Jim Dudley said Friday that Central Valley will get 1 to 3 inches of rain by Monday with up to 15 inches of rain in the Sierra, which could prompt flooding in streams and rivers.
Northern California is expecting 5 inches of rain in places over the weekend, and officials in San Francisco are distributing sandbags to residents as they brace for possible flooding.

I've got just one question; who is actually calling plays now...and how will that individual's play calling impact whether Tebow is given a free hand to make plays or whether they try to have him be a bus driver and keep him on a short leash. This to me, is the key to what we see Tebow do at this point. I know they're sayihng he's being given the entire offfense, but how will they call the actual plays on game day?

4 carries 18 yards
Picks up 2 first downs by escaping pocket pressure that would make Orton shiat in his drawers.
I'm guessing they give him a chance to sling the ball around the yard.

I think Moreno will dictate this. If he has one of his mediocre 70 yard days it will show early - I think they let Tebow sling the ball, may as well we have nothing to lose but a draft slot at this point.
They experts say he can't play QB, well, let's see how he does in a pass heavy gameplan.

Lots of rollouts, playaction. Run heavy offense. They will probably simplify the number of reads he has to make, like option a or b. If not there, tuck it and run or toss it away.

This is what I realistically expect; that he's got a decent grasp of the offense at this point, enough to sufficiently direct the team, though I'm not opposed to him needing it scaled back a bit if that's what's' necessary. That he can function in the pocket as a passer without necessarily running if he doesn't have to. That he can use his athleticism to make plays when things break down, and that the coaches can find ways for him to utilize those skills with designed plays as well. That's basically it. If he's not where people think he should be 100% of the time with his mechanics, who cares? It's not like that's it, his learning ceiling's been reached...cripes it's his rookie season for pete's sake, so if he gains any mechanics improvement at all I'l consider it a positive. Let's just see what he's got the rest of the way.

I'll be watching for how he takes snaps from under center - the exchange, his footwork, etc... things like that.
I really am looking forward to seeing what is pocket presence looks like especially when the pocket breaks down. I have a feeling that Tebow will hold on to the ball too long, and make some poor late throws - this is all fine. I'm pretty sure those tendencies can be coached as well as learned on the job with experience.
Regardless of how it goes, he's a rookie QB making his first start on a terrible team during a horrendous season with media and fan expectations so high it's riiculous.
Can't expect much more than continued growth from the guy right now.

He has one advantage, the team isn't going anywhere so there's no playoff pressure or expectations of even winning at all at this point. In one respect, he's got a better laboratory to work in over the next three games (if they give him three games) that he would have under circumstances like Cutler came in under with the team still in contention. Either way, the interest in the team is suddenly back. It will be interesting to see how the team's vets perform with Tebow at the controls instead of Orton. Forcasters are predicting rain, maybe even driving rain, during the game in Oakland. This has to change things up for both teams. Oakland can pound the ball, but Moreno is looking better of late, so a run combination with run/pass option packages for Tebow might be very entertaining. A Christmas gift win over Oakland would be very welcome. A shove-it-up-their-a** pounding would bring a Christmas-morning kind of joy.

Lostknight, Cutler came in on a QB that had a winning record, not the same for Tebow. Tebow will struggle unless the coach lets the running game develop. KISS and he will do fine, not spectacular but what can everyone expect from a rookie with his first full game? Broncos should keep him to less than 25 to 30 passes and keep Moreno busy.

Remember folks, the Broncos invested a first round draft choice in Tebow.
He's going to get to work through issues while on the job.
You better hope so because they dont treat 2nd rounders the same way!

Until they curb him of his natural drive to run first, his rushing #'s will be higher. He'll probably rush for 30+ yards. Probably will get one rushing touchdown, one passing. 200 or so passing yards. Will throw a pick or two. I don't think he'll be any worse than many prominent QBs starts. It's a rough place to start though. Let's give him a good reason to hate the Raiders!

Awesome. The stooges look like dwarves next to the football players.
Tebow goes 15 of 30 for 190 yards and 1 TD.

For a rookie, in our broken team, first start, in the black hole?
9-for-20, 120 yards, 1 rushing TD, 0 passing TD, 2INTs
this is what I'm expecting.

Somewhere along the lines of what Colt McCoy's 1st start was. Nothing spectacular, but not a total disaster either

I expect normal rookie struggles over the next few games, followed by the usual fan overreaction, media-vulture feeding frenzy.... and the expected "which QB will we draft this April" talk to begin as soon as next weekend.
Tebow is a project, and this fan-base/media is in no mood for a project right now. Hopefully ownership will be patient with him, and couple him with a staff that can foster his development, and ignore the noise.

Not sure of stats but hopefully not many mistakes.
I would expect maybe a couple of picks but hopefully a few big plays w/ his legs or throwing on the run.
Something that can help boost the offense.

My prediction us something like 12 of 22 with 2 tds, 3 interceptions, but an additional rushing TD.
Color me very happy with the full results.

Me too. That was one of the most effective 8/16 and 216 yard games Ive ever seen from a QB. One can only wonder how he'll do when he gets more time under center.
He should have been taking more than 5% of the reps the whole season.

A few nice short-yardage plays, but mostly rides-pine as Quinn starts ... I hope.
Gonna have to repeat this expectation for next week.
