View Full Version : Shanny could be one-and-done in DC?

Florio discussed it today on Fox Sports Radio, apparently Dan Snyder (with a record of dumping coaches quickly, he's on his 6th in 10 years of owning the club) has the hots for Jon Gruden who could reunite with Bruce Allen.

http://nflnr.com/2010/12/shanahan-hot-seat-washington/

This would coincide with something I've heard about a disconnect between Snyder/Allen and the Shanahans leading to disfunction in the building. I actually had one sports-talk host in DC tell me (and Broncos fans who still like Pat will love this), "He [Shanahan] went from one of the best owners in sports to arguably the worst. If he didn't want to setup his kid for the job I think he'd rather walk away than deal with this ****."

Should be interesting to follow...

shanny is regretting that decision to come back, you can see it in his eyes.......

he hates his qb, he hates his dt, the roster is not that great, he misses living in denver....

one things for sure, he isn't getting anywhere near the war room for player eval this spring, mr allen will handle all that thank you very much...

From the very little I've gathered, I don't think either guy expected it to be as much of a struggle between one another with Allen (wisely) parterning with Snyder. Shanny's not used to any of this, hell when Pat called him in his office after 2007 to reportedly ask him to reel in spending that ticked him off. From the sounds of it, between McNabb and Haynesworth and other situations, he's have those struggles every single day.

Snyder cans coaches without batting an eyelash, I still think Shanny gets one more year there but wouldn't be stunned if there's a move. Honestly, I was expecting something to possibly happen with Florida.

He's done a real good job with that roster. They should have won today if that kicker wasn't totally useless. It goes without saying that I would LOVE to have Shanny back.

I feel sorry for him that he has to put up with a bunch of clowns in Washington.

Lets really think about this. Coaches can stay at one stop for only so long. After a while the team just loses the message and then it's time to get a new coach.

McD pretty much got rid of Shanny's roster, so if Shanny came back, he'd have a whole new team. It would be like a fresh new start with players who haven't gotten tired of the way the coach goes about business.

It's like perfect!

Snyder and Shanahan were a match made in hell from the beginning. Anyone who knows anything about either of them could have told you that before the ink dried on Shanahan's contract. They're both arrogant control freaks.

When he does leave, whether it's via quitting or getting fired, you can throw it on the ever growing mountain of bad decisions by Dan Snyder.

The only way I'd bring Shanny back is with a real GM and even then I bet Shanny would be throwing his weight around the front office in Dove Valley. No thanks to Shanny... fact is, without Elway I guess he is pretty mediocre as a HC. He definitely sucks as a personel guy.

Bwahahaha! Why not fire him?...Bronocos and Bowlen are paying half his salary anyway, so it really didn't cost Snyder that much to bring him in. Of course, the long term deal (is what Snyder would be on the hook for...but Snyder probably has an out if he gets another job anywhere.

As for bringing him back to Denver...Maybe if he isn't given total control and has a GM he could do better. But Tebow is gone if Shanny comes back .

Given Redskins owner Dan Snyder’s propensity to hire and fire head coaches almost as often as he changes his clothes, it should come as no surprise that he is reportedly considering a coaching change at the end of the season, dumping Mike Shanahan after just one year.
There hasn’t been much to substantiate the rumor, but NBC’s Mike Florio (of Pro Football Talk fame) spoke at some length about the situation in Washington on Fox Sports radio today, and indicated that Snyder is reportedly interested in having former Tampa Bay head coach Jon Gruden come on board to run his team.
For the time being, it’s unlikely that anything will happen with regard to Shanahan, as Snyder would have to pay a minor fortune to him if he fires him without cause, and Gruden would undoubtedly command his own mountain of money in any contract he signs to return to coaching. But the mere fact that Snyder is even considering making a change right now speaks volumes about the issues facing the Redskins right now and definitely opens the door to questions on Shanahan’s fractured relationship with quarterback Donovan McNabb, who has been unhappy to say the least with the way Shanahan has used him in the team’s offense.
At any rate, this off-season is sure to be one to watch, especially if a rumor like this ends up having legs, and Snyder actually decides to send Shanahan packing in favor of Gruden. As always, we’ll keep you posted when anything new comes up.

---------------------------------

So it's an unsubstantiated rumor which is unlikely to become true. I love those. Here, lets try another one.

I heard a rumor that Mike Florio is a methamphetamine addict who loves to eat small asian children for dinner. As of now the rumor is unsubstantiated and is highly unlikely to happen, but hey, you never know. I'll be sure to update you if anything else develops.

Yes, the '07 draft where we spent two extra picks (including a 3rd) to jump up after Moss, a 2nd on Crowder, and then gave up our entire 2nd day plus an '08 third for Thomas was EPIC.

The pick everyone around here was hating on (Harris) turned out to be the only good thing they did that year.
