Beer spill shorts out Iron Maiden concert
Jan. 26, 2004 | NEW YORK (AP) -- Iron Maiden offered its sympathy to fans whose concert experience was ruined by a beer over the weekend. Iron Maiden manager Ron Smallwood said on the band's Web site "some idiot" on the mezzanine of their show in New York "thought it was a good idea to chuck his beer into the air rather than down his throat."
The beer landed below on the mixing board. It blew out several channels and kept the band from playing any encores. Smallwood said the band felt "gutted" about the incident and he thanked fans for being understanding. He added, "And to the idiot who caused this, I do hope you learned a lesson."

They've been on the "washed up" circut for years now...the fate of most hair metal acts from the 80's.

I never got into them - but i give them their props -
it's like i watched binge and purge - and i think that newstead was the glue that held metallicock together - i mean i wish he would have sang more than james!
He wasn't cliff - but newstead was damn good - and it's a shame they 'tuned him down' on most of the CD's after cliff's death - (they admitted this)

Cliff was the heart and soul of Metallica and I admit that my love affair with that band ended with Cliff's death. Justice had a lot of Cliffs influence (in fact the only song he wrote was on that CD "To Live is To Die") so I count that amongst Cliff-works.

Alec,
Just don't deny newstead his deal - he did a damn good job - I mean i still think the best metallica i've ever heard is sans-hammit -

Newstead was a decent enough guy but my biggest beef with him and why I dont believe he was a "great" bassist is that he could never pull off Anesthesia live. I saw them about 12 times in my life and 10 of 12 times he started to do it but then went off into something else cause he just wasn't Cliff.
I never liked Hammit but I dont care for Mustaine either.

well it's much the same reason why i think most of today's bands suck - and the new metallica sucks

This time period musically actually reminds me of the late 80's....all the real alternative bands are back underground with little to no airplay...
I just awaiting the next Pixies/Nirvana to surface...should be any year now by my reckoning......it could very well be Maxeen that does it....if ever catches fire....Fuse is running it a lot I see...maybe, just maybe.

hogan,
sometimes i wonder if i could have been in 'that band' - but then i am also a realist in someways that i was homeless and was going to kill my guitar player. however if you ever see a band 'frogbelly' - the guy who is the guitar player writes good songs and has a good idea of how to make music.
There is going to be something soon, and i do agree with your opinion of the music scene.

I used to think that too amesj...I used to be in a band with a guy (Deano) who then went to NYC and formed Clowns For Progress....while they never "made it" or anything...they did release a couple of CD's, a few videos and toured the world...believe it or not, I was asked to come down in the very early stages of that band to join and I didn't. Check out their website:

Just as well I guess, I'm not into makeup...

In reality though hogan, being homeless and not having a demo is just not good ;)

I hear ya Amesj...I understand.
Speaking about demos....I found an old TASCAM 448 for $150, so I picked it up...yeah I know, I know....should've went digital, CDR and all that...but it was a deal I couldn't refuse and a natural progression for me...especially since most of my material has a heavy mid-sixties feel to it...it just seems to lose some ambiance without the analog tape hiss in it Ha!

Hogan,
I hear ya man, and that's cheap - so it's all good - It's just cheaper for me to go digital right now - when i get some money later on - i'd like to go retro -
I was listening to some iron butterfly last night - Very interesting sound - But damn is their epic song good :)
In addition to my sonor force 1000 accoustic set i have, i'm going to buy a roland vset - i won't have money to get a rehersal space for a while (i know it sounds funny that i'm wiling to drop $1500 on a drum set, but no rehersal space) - reason is my new job is a short term contract, so i figure i can at least play whenever i want instead of working with blocks of time right now - but then i also thought that when i'm good enough i can do some cool stuff by mixing my sets.

Vida is a classic...especially the "Voice of God" vocals and the fuzz guitar freakouts in the title track ...love the sound of the guitar on that album.
I agree, it was an interesting sound...too bad they couldn't come up with consistantly insteresting material to match it. (if you heard any other Butterfly CD's, you'd know what I mean)

I went to the Eagles concert @ Invesco field. It was the first event ever at the new stadium. Anyhow they had problems with the beer flowing all day. The keg lines kept freezing up and people were getting pissed. Luckily they got it straight before the first Broncos game which was shortly there after.
Never mentioned this in here before but the concert started late. I think they were having problems with the sound system. Anyhow I was wearing my Ed Mcaffrey jersey and noticed a few other Broncos fans sitting around my section. They were buzzed enough like me and I said "Hey let's start the wave". Guess what we did.
Our group was the first to get the wave going in the New Mile High Stadium. I take pride in that. My girlfriend who I was with thought I was nuts and she kept saying to me "Meck your embarassing me.......sit down........they won't listen to you". Little did she know we got it around.
Don't know if any of you were there but if you remember it started in the North Upper level endzone where the Broncos head is painted. That is where we sat.

LOL...you must be talking about "Flowers And Beads" eh?? (it's wimpy and dated sure...but I can still handle it...something about Yule singing it makes it "not quite right").
But yeah, I know what you mean...seriously, when it comes to Iron Butterfly...Vida is all one really needs...you could pick up one of the Best of's for "Soul Experience" and the cool "Iron Butterfly Theme" but why anyone would want anything more than that is a total mystery to me.
Just my opinion on it.
