View Full Version : Wink
We will see the real Wink these last few games.
If the defense holds up he would have a good chance of staying stay.
Champ also?

I seriously doubt anyone on the staff will be back. Hopefully, the new head coach will have the authority to find the people he wants to work with.
Champ? 40/60.

You don't think wink has been calling games to his full potential? I'm curious what he'll do differently if that's true

The only way the current staff stays is if Studesville stays on. Otherwise, they will all be gone.
That being said, I think Wink (or Josh) did a excellent job last week. We need to continue to perform on that level for any of them to have a chance next year.
It's not just players playing for the job.

Whoever it ends up being, I hope we maintain a 3-4 defense.

If the defense steps up with how battered we are, I don't see how you fire a guy like Wink. The guy has had almost nothing to work with and has kept us in most games. Not his fault the offense can't hold up their end late in games. No reason we shouldn't have won last week with the effort they put forth.

Ummmm, what?!? I hope this is a joke.
How many times has this defense held its opponents under their season averages in points scored? Two times, maybe three? We make every offense look good.

Agreed ! The fricken rams put up 30+ on us, Choakland put up a 59 point slam on us at home, The chuggers mopped the floor with us on Monday night. Should I keep going.

Good point. Hard to run an effective 3-4 with back-ups like Haggan, Ayers and Mays starting at LB {finish the season with Hunter - Larsen - DJ - Alexander}. Martindale has done a good job as DC, Nunnly at DL and Donatell at DB, but the Broncos need to address their LB corps next season and hire a LB Coach (Romo?). An overhaul in the secondary is also likely.
PS: The 4-4 is the best defense and would also love to see it in Denver next year.

Do you mean Patrice LeCosta, the french soccer player, or Eric DeCosta, the personnel guy, from the Baltimore Ravens?

Wink needs to go, I don't care how good one game was last week. His defense allowed Oakland to drop the worst game on us in history, and has allowed multiple rookie quarterbacks to go nuts on us. This is also the guy who McD permitted to run the defense after Mike Nolan dared to try and call his own games.
If I was a deadman walking DC like Wink....I would dial up every exotic blitz package I could think of.
One way or the other....I would go out in style.

Not sure I follow that: You're saying Nolan was replaced by Wink for not calling McD's Defense ... and Wink is at fault for the Broncos Defensive problems?:spit:

I think while he was working with a unit supposedly better than last year's, he just lacked the experience to bring that unit to another level, like Mike Nolan pretty much achieved last year.
So the HC needs to be accountable for the results generated by those coaching moves himself made...

No kidding. Gave Rams their best output for the whole season. Even if Stud sticks to the job, Wink is probably not his guy as McD brought him in. I say Wink and every other coach is coaching the last few weeks to showcase their coaching talent for another team.

I hope so.
His expert tutelage has moved Orton to the upper reaches of the yards per loss column.
4 games is a quarter of the season.
The Defense will be all Wink's child.... we know Stud does not have time to stick his nose in the defense. It can no longer be the kid's fault.
The real Wink's game is on deck.

These last four games are going to be used as an evaluation tool as players play for their jobs and coaches work for theirs...
Very interesting to see how in the next four weeks this team would perform under those circumstances...

I think Wink would blitz like crazy if it were up to him. He has a lot of Ryanisms in his approach. Just as Shanny did with his DCs, McD held back his guys as well. Why do HCs do that? Especially the ones that are offensive minded!

In Defense of the D that game started off on flukes that snowballed into a avalanche.
Oakland opened with a td drive. BAD on the D but they hadn't even had time to adjust.
1st play from scrimmage our O (Orton) threw a pick 6.
Our second plaly from scrimmage was a fumble lost on our 20 or so. 2 plays and a td.
We were down 21 -0 in 6 minutes.
The whole team was shocked and NOBODY got their stuff together before we were down 38-0.
We did the same thing to a good KC D in our first game against them.
Sometimes **** happens and EVERYTHING goes wrong for one team.
I don't excuse it, but the players are responsible for that mess...not the coaches.

exactly and we are up against a total rookie noob. Corner blitz like we did during the SB years. Blind sided sack by Crockett. Oh, memories.

Don't you think its fairly telling how weak both the Offensive and Defensive Coordinators are when the coach gets fired and the Runningback coach takes the helm? Thats a move that is virtually unheard of. All of these guys are gone...and rightfully so. Find your GM then find the right HC and allow him to set his staff.
