View Full Version : McD Era: Unprecedented Broncos Disaster

Has there ever been a worse GM/coaching disaster in the history of this once-proud franchise?

Dude managed to gut the franchise of talent, mismanage the draft, and then reach new levels of futility in terms of on-field production.

We basically saw him ruin Bailey's last couple of years in orange and blue, run the end of Dawkins' career into the dirt, make a cult hero out of Peyton Hillis, and take the best young offense in the league and turn it into...something.

Cutler, Marshall, Hillis, Scheffler, Quinn, The Phonz, Wiegmann, Paxton, spygate II, the worst run game in Broncos history, futility not seen in 40 years, etc, etc.

McD has left us with a decent player in Lloyd, an improved Orton from what was a below-average Orton, several constantly-injured young players, a regressed Clady, a regressed Harris, a regressed Kuper, and a regressed Royal.

What does McD leave us with? Tebow. And with a new coach coming down the pike, that ones up in the air too.

Tebow isn't going anywhere. Bowlen fired McD for financial reasons and Tebow attracts more idiots looking to buy jerseys than anyone in the NFL.

I dont think that Tebow's going to be traded, I just dont know if he'll be in the plans of the future coach.

We saw the emergence of Dumervil, Lloyd and a little bit of what Moreno can bring to the table. He also found Joe Mays, drafted DT who I think will be a player and revived Orton's career. He also left us with some good young secondary guys like Cox.
It wasn't all bad.....mostly bad but not all bad

We weren't gutted of talent. There were some bad decisions, but there were some good ones. And I can't believe people are still whining about Cutler/Marshall. Marshall has done next to nothing in Miami and Lloyd came off the trash heap and out-performed him. And Scheffler? Pffffttttt.

What a load of crock! I mean really! Josh got us what no other coach has been able to since the invention of the Internet or something - a top 5 draft pick. Sheesh, give the guy some credit.

/sarcasm

Actually, I don't see it as bad. I'm happy Marshall is in Miami and not all that upset about Cutler taking his crap to Chicago. Miffed about Hillis. Don't know what the hell happened with Phonz and even more upset about the pick we spent to get him.

That being said, I'm freaking giddy that he's gone. Dude was just an ego onion. Nothing at the center besides more ego. I sure as hell hope the Broncos can get a favorable "cause" ruling and void the remainder of his contract.

I haven't posted here in years.... I feel compelled to now in light of the McDaniels firing. Sadly, this is one of the happiest days for me as a Broncos fan. I can now exhale........

Hardly appropriate with what marshall has for a qb, is it ?
Cutler is on his way to the playoffs no matter how you slice it he is a better QB than ORTON and I KNOW YOU REALIZE THIS.

Cutler, Marshall, and Scheffler were good together.

Hell, at least they managed to win more than 3 games in a season!

No I don't. If Orton was on their team he would be in the playoffs too, except he would have thrown fewer game ending interceptions.

Orton has done the same things a few times in Denver this year.

If you think that Orton is a better QB than Cutler, then you are either lying to yourself or you arent very smart.

Cutler may not be Peyton Manning or Drew Brees, but he can have a winning impact on games.

Not for nothing but Clady, Harris, Kuper have not regressed, they have been injured. Royal looks better now than he has since he was a rookie. Orton went from below average to a really good QB despite what you may think and Lloyd finally was taught out of his bad attitude and showed the potential countless others have failed to bring out.

We also got Moreno, Ayers and Cox who are likely to be full time starters the rest of their tenure in the NFL. That's not to mention that if McBath can stay healthy, Bruton, Thompson, Vaughn all are either starters or great special teams players.

It's not like it was a complete and TOTAL disaster like you are saying.

Yea, the hyperbole is now going to begin... about all of the "talent" we lost. There will be no mention of the talent gained, of course.

Oh well, such is the Mane.

Look forward to rooting for our next coach, whoever that may be!

When you fire a coach before he even completes his second season, it is a complete and total disaster. All your crying won't change that.

I vote not very smart. Kaylore has been on McD's nuts and supported every single thing the guy has done. Now that Cutler is winning and Hillis is looking phenomenal it's even worse for him. It doesn't matter what Marshall does in Miami, he was good here and we knew it. If Lloyd emerged when Marshall was here think of the trio we'd have with those two and Royal. And Scheffler. With Cutler throwing to them.

Dismantling that offense will always having me wondering... what if. That D was so atrocious it really exposed Cutler's flaws to force it in the red zone, but that offense was on the verge of becoming elite. Royal had a monster season with Cutler and hasn't had the same type of impact with Orton. The running game would have bounced back with every RB getting injured that yr. I hated Bates' play-calling, but McD's play-calling has been just as questionable.

I don't know if the D would have been improved enough for a championship, but the Broncos would at least be leading the AFC West at this point.
