Before the end of the week (12/04/10), former United States Vice President Dick Cheney will be indicted by Nigerian officials in connection with the long-running bribery investigation into Halliburton Company. According to Bloomberg News:

“Indictments will be lodged in a Nigerian court “in the next three days,” Godwin Obla, prosecuting counsel at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, said in an interview today at his office in Abuja, the capital. An arrest warrant for Cheney “will be issued and transmitted through Interpol,” the world’s biggest international police organization, he said.”

Furthermore:

“Obla said charges will be filed against current and former chief executive officers of Halliburton, including Cheney, who was CEO from 1995 to 2000, and its former unit KBR Inc., based in Houston, Texas; Technip SA, Europe’s second-largest oilfield- services provider; Eni SpA, Italy’s biggest oil company; and Saipem Construction Co., a unit of Eni. Obla didn’t identify the former officials whom he said held office when the alleged bribes were paid.”

I doubt the U.S. (or any "western" nation) has a extradition treaty with Nigeria, so he's never going to face a Nigerian Court unless he chooses to.

Even if there were a treaty, I don't see any ally nation choosing allegiance with Nigeria over us -- if only for pragmatic reasons.

Cheney's Haliburton also made a pile of $$$ doing business with Iran in the pre 2000 election time frame. The company was violating US foreign policy hand over fist -- but Cheney did not give a hoot -- it was just business.

No harm in that, right JJJ?

Of course, AFTER Cheney became VP -- he went viral on Iran. As in sociopathic.

Maybe it was something in the water...Hmmm.

Are you just making sh*t up as usual, or do you have something to support these claims?

Nope I'm serious. So Nigerian companies say pay us or you get no contracts. So Halliburton plays ball, gets caught, get's fined in the USA, then get's extorted again by Nigeria to pay more for getting caught giving them the bribes in the first place.

Man only if Africa!!

Of course they will pay because Nigeria has tons of resources to exploit. To be left out would cost them even more.

Really though why all the hate for Halliburton they are just making a buck in an unpopular industry. In any event like I said Cheney never in any actual jeapordy as far as having to go into any court of law etc etc. Without the threat of being cut off in Nigeria Halliburton probably could have said **** off.

I'd respond, but it seems Big Brother deleted my last post for no apparent reason, so why bother?

Did anything ever happen with this or are we still arguing over Cheney's guilt and extradition rights??

Respond to what?

You presented nothing but speculation, conjecture, etc., without any supporting evidence.

In other words, your attempts to defend Big Dick fell short, so you decided to just make some sh*t up.

Why not? Works for your role models Rush and Glenn, eh?

This from the same guy who was just scolding me about (non-existent) sexual innuendo?

You don't even try to hide your hypocrisy anymore, do you?

With GeeDubya as your role model, I guess this should surprise no one.

What am I wrong about? I said:

1- no charges would ever be brought by any court with jurisdiction to arrest Cheney.

2- I then said nothing in this would ever make Cheney have to even go answer these charges etc etc.

Where was I wrong?

No the Nigerian govt got money from Halliburton and dropped all charges. What's funny is you don't do anything big in Africa without a bribe. Halliburton was forced to pay a fine or not be allowed to work in Nigeria anymore so they had to do it. Too much money to be made there.

It really never had anything to do with Cheney except that he is a big name associated with Halliburton.

That maybe true , but we just cant forfeit some ones rights without due process

While I do no think anything will or can come from this, he never cared about the laws here or rights of the citizens that live in this country, I could give a **** less about his rights. If I could help Nigeria get him in one of their courts I'd do it since our courts are too chicken**** to make him answer.
