View Full Version : Two Interesting Rumours floating around

Some interesting rumors floating around. The first is that a NFL Network personality has expressed some interest in a GM role, and will be meeting with management later this week.

Also have heard that Tebow got more snaps - primarily at Quinn's expense - not Ortons, this week in practice.

primarily at Quinn's expense

obviously we have to protect the jewel of our qb stable so he's fresh for cliboard and water jug duty on sunday.

Was that GM thing specific to us, or just a GM position in general?

Michael Lombardi? He had some interesting things to say on the Vic and Gary radio show about his time here in Denver in 2007. He told Shanny that our depth was awful and that the team was awful. He said that is probably why he was no longer in Denver as well ;)

I hope it's Lombardi. Not because I know anything about his qualifications, he's just the only one I don't hate.

that and Denver would pay him to go along with a GM like title...

They have typically run a three way rotation with Orton getting most of the snaps on one side, Tebow and Quinn rotating on the 2nd and 3rd string. From what I was told, that's no longer the case. Tebow and Orton are rotating, with only mental snaps left for number 3.

Ha Ha, was thinking the same thing about Matt Millen..........Definitley a loser for a GM w/ his whole debacle in Detroit. I've always thought a lot of Casserly, He would be a good choice. I don't have the same confidence in Lombardi although the trophy bearing his name has my interest.

I've always though Stokes, as a tough, intense, cerebral WR who ran great routes, would make a great WR coach.

Its got to be Lombardi. He's been pro-McDaniels all along, has former Broncos ties, and has a resume built for exactly what we need. His football resume:

1999 to 2007 – Oakland Raiders: Hired by owner Al Davis to become Senior Personnel Executive working closely with the owner on all football matters. Liaison with head coach and owner; responsible for pro and college player evaluations; and handled veteran contracts.
1998 – Philadelphia Eagles: Promoted to Director of Pro Personnel after serving as a consultant to team owner Jeffrey Lurie in 1997. Managed the professional personnel department and advised owner and chief financial officer on all player contracts and salary cap issues.
1996 – St. Louis Rams: Prepared advisory reports for ownership during head coach search.
1987 to 1996 – Cleveland Browns: Joined team as Pro Personnel Director in 1987. Promoted to Director of Player Personnel in 1992 where he worked under head coach Bill Belichick and was responsible for all college and pro personnel decisions; managed salary cap and player personnel issues; oversaw staff of 13 college and pro scouts; handled all player contracts and advised head coach on all football matters.
1984 to 1987 – San Francisco 49ers: Hired as Area Scout where he was responsible for the west region from Texas to California. Reported to head coach Bill Walsh and assistant coaches in all matters of college scouting and supplied information for use during the NFL draft.
1981 to 1984 – University of Nevada, Las Vegas: Hired as Recruiting Coordinator by Runnin’ Rebels head coach Harvey Hyde.
1977 to 1981 – Hofstra University, Hempstead, N.Y.: Defensive lineman and long-snapper.

So he's done what we're looking for (player personnel director) and really cut his front office teeth with Belichick in Cleveland, were several other very good GMs had their start.

Something like Lombardi as Director of Player Personnel with Elway brought into a Vice President of Football Operations role would actually give McDaniels the support staff he needs and enough league wide cache to let them land some real quality assistants, guys that Lombardi is likely now very familiar with after his stint in the media covering the entire league.
