NFL VP Jeff Pash said today that (in similar situations) "I hope clubs will conduct themselves the way the Broncos did." He also stated that the Broncos "had their moral compass pointing in the right direction" and that they "set example of how to properly handle this."

That's pretty strong support from the League office.

Here's the first question I want an answer for; of all the people available to do a job like video director, what would make the team hire someone who had previously been tagged by the league for this very kind of violation? Just specualating here, but might it be that if you wanted to spy, it would make sense to get someone you know has no ethics issues with doing this? Otherwise...how does this guy make it out of the first interview process?

The idea that he did this all on his own really strains credibility.

Oh Lord, you're not gonna let this gonna go, are you? Despite the fact the NFL Commisioner, who loves to ream ass, let this go with a slap on the wrist.

The NFL Commisioner also went out of his way to commend the Broncos club for the way they handled the incident. But no no, you're gonna hang onto this. What a surprise.

I'm not hanging onto anything dude, simply asking a question.

So what's your explanation as to why McD would hire a guy already known to have cheated?

I don't have to explain anything. The Commish didn't think it was all that big of a deal, so why are you making a big deal out of it?

Try to pay attention will you? If you don't think this latest episode with McD has damaged the team and it's fans you must be on some kind of sedative. The league is going to act on what they can prove only, but we both know the fans are going to split even further over whether McDaniels can be believed or trusted than they already are. There's no way around the kick in the balls this is to the franchise and no way around whose watch it's happening on. If McD were only losing but doing so without all the controvercy or maybe he was at least being competative now he might be given a better chance for survival but I agree with the thought that says if he doesn't win damn quick he's going out the door. Bowlen knows he doesn't have long before they cart him off to the loony bin so he'd better hope to see another Super Bowl run as quickly as possible. If he think Josh gives them the best shot at that he'll tolerate this crap but it would surprise me if Bowlen doesn't already feel like he's given this guy more rope than he should have. This latest embarrasment will only serve to annoy or frustrate the owner, so yes, this is important.

In the eyes of most fans, Goodell also gave the Patriots a slap on the wrist for Spygate.

I think Goodell likes the image he has of laying the law on the players but he's very inconsistent with his punishment towards teams/ownership. Maybe I'm the conspiracy theorist but I think he's having to be lenient towards teams/ownership to protect the integrity of the NFL. Spygate had its own cover up. Remember Goodell anxiously destroying the confiscated videotapes to protect any wrongdoing during the Patriot's Super Bowl years? And the renegade cameraman taking the fall seems to be a perfect cover up story for Spygate part II.

Is it easier to fire the camera man or the coach? Hmmm...the whole story reeks of fishiness.

No homer will touch that question, trust me...

The fact that this guy Scarneccia (sp?) was hired immediately after McDaniels got the job, says how important he is to Mcdaniels success.
The fact McD brought this guy should've raised questions.
Why would anyone here believe Mcdaniels wasn't involved?

Every move this organization has made since departing with Shanny is just unacceptable. Most of all bringing in Patriot trash to run the team has completely eliminated my interest. I still remain a fan but my passion, enthusiasm, and $ will remain closeted until this cancer is purged from our organization.

Ummmm....This is awesome if true. I hope they skate on some technicality.

People that think this is 'cheating' have never played poker.

He wont pay for 3 head coaches. McDaniels will be here regardless until Shanahan is at least off the payroll.

IF Bowlen fired McD Now, this is where I would be concerned about his mental well being. It is a stupid BUSINESS move to do so.

The idiot fans are still going to sell out the games, still goign to purchase the merchandise, still going to make the team money. You dumbasses talk a big game about boycotting but you all still watch, you all still go to games, and you all still buy merchandise. Bowlen doesnt care if you b**** and moan on the internetz.

Paying for 3 head coaches is downright retarded no matter the situation. You keep the current coach until his contract is done and proceed to fire him after that. (Assuming of course there is 0 progress in that time frame). I dont care if he cheated or not from an owner's perspective, what I care about is the bottom line. (As a human being I do not condone cheating of any sort by anyone at any level for any reason, just to be clear) and it is not good business sense to have to pay 2 different people for no reason whatsoever.

Just my opinion. Josh will finish out his contract and likely be let go assuming there is no progress. If I was the owner, this is most certainly the route I would take.

I hope you're kidding...

because what you said boils down to "cheating is wrong" unless you're cheating your own fans.

It's pretty clear. The guy was a part of spygate and decided it would be a good idea film the other teams practice. He told Josh afterwards over lunch. Josh said "WTF noooooooooooo! Delete!! Delete!!" Then eight days later Ellis and Josh were eating lunch and Josh said "member that one time at London, when we tape the other team practicing." Then Ellis said "WTF noooooooooooo". Right away we called the NFL and it's all good, because we never watched it. Simple.

Incorrect. Josh never reported it. That's what could have caused this to blow sky high, if not for Ellis.

Someway or somehow a NFL official notice the infraction by Scarnecchia (multi-offender ??) at the exhibition game in Europe and probably informed the 49'ers team GM of this?

After they had heard about it, the 49ers were not concerned. For one thing, they won the game. For another, their offense is not highly sophisticated to where videotapes of a practice could help another team all that much.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/11/28/report-mcdaniels-explains-to-coaching-staff-differences-between-spygate-i-and-ii/

"Former Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has managed to maintain a good relationship with his former boss, Patriots coach Bill Belichick.

Until now.

Jay Glazer of FOX reports that McDaniels met with his staff on Friday to explain the circumstances surrounding Spygate II, which supposedly arose from the one-time-only videotaping of a 49ers’ walk-through practice by a rogue video operator, Steve Scarnecchia. And McDaniels distinguished the situation from the original Spygate, which arose apparently from years of videotaping of in-game defensive coaching signals.

“That was practiced, that was coached, that was worked on,” McDaniels said in reference to the Patriots’ past practices, per Glazer.

McDaniels also warned his staff to keep their mouths shut. “If this gets out, there are jobs on the line,” McDaniels told the staff, per Glazer.

So why did it get out? It possibly had something to do with the fact that, after the 59-14 loss to the Raiders, McDaniels took the staff to owner Pat Bowlen and lambasted them, according to Glazer.

Glazer also reports that there are “raised eyebrows” in the facility, based on the perception that McDaniels threw Scarnecchia under the bus. Which implies that there’s a belief within the organization that, while McDaniels and Scarnecchia didn’t get their stories together after the fact, they possibly got their stories together before the fact.

Indeed, the sense remains that, even though McDaniels claims he didn’t watch the tape and that Scarnecchia acted alone, Scarnecchia was the Dawson and/or Downey in this situation, and McDaniels ordered the Code Red"

Also Jay Glazer reported the following on the Fox pre=game show:

"according to them McD admitted the Patriot version of Spygate was practiced and coached, apparently McD had been denying this for years

also according to them McD took the entire coaching staff to Bowlen after the Raider loss and ripped into them.

Someone from the league caught the guy taping the 49ers.

According to them there is "animosity" between McD and his assistant coaches.

The league may re-open this and levy bigger penalties against the Broncos at a later time"

Interesting

Jeff Legwold thinks that if someone didn't leak it to the press (presumably from Josh's internal circle) the league and the Broncos would not have gone public with this

He also said in all his years of reporting he doesn't not know one videotaper who would do this on this own. This guys work 90-100 hours a week so a guy is going to use his off time to video tape the other team. Logic says it's never just a lone gunman
