Tned over at BroncosForums started an online petition to bring back the orange jerseys, and I know alot of you agree, so I thought I would post the link to it, hopefully he doesn't mind:

http://www.bringbackbroncosorange.com/

I think this is a good way to get your voice heard.....I bet Bowlen would listen if 20K people signed this and it was put on his desk.....

Anyway, go over and sign, and thanks to Tned for putting it together....

Seriously, there hasn't been 10 uniform changes in the history of the league as drastic as the one the Broncos made 13 years ago.

The only downside I see is diminishing the unis that, ya know, they won two Super Bowls in.

But I want the orange back. Please. If they out in the paperwork soon they can get this thing done by next year.

I was thinking about that. Probably be good to let the signature count get up there, hopefully a bunch of sigs tomorrow, and then maybe someone at the DP will show some interest. I sent a link to Lindsay Jones, and posted a comment with it on Andrew Mason's (maxdenver) story about bringing back the orange.

I went to the game in London (I was over there for work at the time) and the lack of orange really jumped out at me. Most of the Broncos fans I saw were wearing primarily blue (as was I with a blue Doom jersey). The Broncos asked fans to show up at Picadilly Circus on Sunday for a group photo (Elway, Zim, Little and company showed up for pic), and most were wearing blue. This pic doesn't really do it justice, because there is orange hats and trim and stuff showing, but most of the people were in blue, which just doesn't shout "Broncos".

You'll notice that Miles isn't wearing blue.

Does Denver Post sports do op-ed? It seems like this idea, which I supported since the switch to blue in 1997, is starting to generate a following, and I for one am glad.

We're the Broncos. We wear orange.

This is awesome. So often, the interwebz are used for negative sites (spreading political and religious lies, trying to get people fired, etc.) that it's nice to see a very positive use.

Maybe Montrose can get the guys to mention it on the radio station. Once that happens, it's in the consciousness, and maybe it'll get some momentum.

Couldn't hurt to send it as a mailbag question to Klis or Woody, either.

Yep, some media coverage would help a bunch. The guys on the forums are clearly spreading the word, as we crossed 350 signatures and have over 85 in the last hour. So, signatures are now coiming in at over 1 a minute. Not sure if that number will go up or down. A lot depends on how good we are at getting the word out.

Once the petition gets a little bigger, to have more impact (125 signatures in the last hour), I will get in contact with Patrick Smythe or someone else in the PR/Marketing dept and start giving them updates. I will also produce a letter/formal fan request, and present that and the signatures to them via Fedex or some other similar means on a regular basis as the petition grows.

Half of the NFL wears blue, either as primary or alternate: Bills, Dolphins, Patriots, Texans, Colts, Jaguars, Titans, Broncos, Chargers, Giants, Bears, Lions, Panthers, Rams, Seahawks, and Cowboys. We are a unique, special team and should differentiate ourselves.

Further, the alternate orange jerseys are a great way to tie in 40 years of tradition, including 4 AFC championships, with the new era and two superbowl championships.

I think it's a win/win, and strongly advocate.

To the Broncos uniform history buffs, watch this video around the 5:30-5:35 mark. Try to pause the video as Rick Upchurch enters the celebration around Haven Moses, who has just scored a long TD. There is a history lesson here. Look at Upchurch next to Jim Jensen when both equally have their backs turned to the camera.

The Broncos used Red-Orange from 1968-1977, but committed to a hue change for the 1978 season, soemtime during the 77 season. Rick Upchurch used to be a slippery bug, and used to have alot of his jersies torn. By the end of the 77 season, there were no more Red-Orange Upchurch jersies, so Upchurch had to essentially use a 1978 Straighter Orange jersey in this 77 AFC Champ game.

It should be easy to see the color difference. As a Broncos uniform history fanatic, I think the Red Orange jersey we wore, with the darker royal blue D helmet is the greatest uniform we ever wore!!

The orange we wore Sunday is closer to the straight orange we wore from 1978-1996. I'll take it happily, but I dream of a day we'll do a throwback to the red-orange Floyd Little jersey days!!

B-Love
11-16-2010, 04:47 PM
Pause it at the 5:35 mark. Jensen, Keyworth, Moses and Claudie Minor are all in the great Red-Orange. Upchurch is in the straight orange we wore from 78-96

I actually like those a lot.

I think it would be best if orange were defaults and we wear the all blue's 2 times a year like we do orange now.

Yea, I know what you mean. Maybe it's because we haven't had much positive the last couple years, and some would say longer than that. Maybe the idea of bringing back a tradition. I'm not sure, but I agree, I kind of feel the same way.

Would be so great seeing us go back to orange. The current unis are actually quite nice, but as has been said many times the basic fact is that a stupid percentage of the NFL also has some sort of navy or blue as their primary colour so we're just another face in the crowd.

The mockups above are on the right track for what we should be doing in my opinion. It would be wrong to completely get rid of the navy from our uniform. Like them or not they're a big part of our history, we won two Superbowls in them, so a new jersey that somewhat mixes the two is the way to go.

Petition signed, let's get this **** done!

Not being in Denver, that's something someone else will have to organize. You guys are supposed to be the king of tailgating, so it would be good to get something organized.

Someone emailed me asking if I had flyers. He said he does a pretty big tailgate every Sunday, and he could hand it out then. I hadn't considered it, and there is no way for me to get it done by the next home game (with Thanksgiving in the middle).

So, if this thing has staying power, I thought about maybe getting some postcards or flyers printed up that we can pass out to people who will be having tailgates or otherwise can hand them out Weeks 16 and 17 (which I think are the next home games)

My pockets aren't deep enough to spring for tee shirts, but I can help out on flyers, or have some printed and drop shipped to people who will be at the games.

Another thing is business cards. There are several places that sell fairly cheap two sided, four color business cards, which could be a good handout. Website and short phrase on front, and some text/explanation on the back.

Krieger: Broncos fans rally to bring back the orange
By Dave Krieger
The Denver Post
Posted: 11/19/2010 01:00:00 AM MST

The raw numbers will be out-of-date by the time this column hits print, but as of Thursday, I had something approaching 1,000 copies of e-mails to the Broncos, and the Broncos reported having received 1,021. A petition at BringBackBroncosOrange.com (http://bringbackbroncosorange.com/) had several thousand signatures, and a Facebook page launched by a KOA listener was up and running under the name Operation Orange. Ellis said the Broncos are aware of them all.

"And I understand it," he said. "We've actually played two very good home games in the jersey. I think what it shows as much as anything is just how much passion there really is for this team in this region and frankly in other parts of the country where we have fans, and the world."

So, Joe, does this mean you and Pat have open minds about switching back to the orange?

"Absolutely," he said.

I sent an email to DP to check on advertising rates in the paper. A billboard if we could get some chip ins could be an idea. Flyers/Postcards to hand out at home games. Postcards mailed to season ticket holders (or regular game attendees) if we can find a mailing list. Those are some ways to get the word out beyond the computer folks like us.

As to the billboard, i would certainly chip in, and I am sure between the Mane, BroncosForums, Broncos country, MHR and BroncoTalk, we could get a decent swell of financial support.

tnedator

I've identified how some of those dupes were happening, especially when you would see 2 or 3 in a row.

Basically, people were signing the petition. Then, they would hit refresh to see if the totals changed (how many signups after them). When they hit refresh, it would give one of those dialog boxes that asks you if you want to resend the data. Most people hit yes, and therefore the code was interpreting that as another signature.

I have fixed this by adding dupe checking prior to inserting a new record into the DB. If all of the entered fields are the same as another record, then it simply skips the insert and displays the petition results.

So, we will still have some dupes caused other ways, intentional, someone realized they made a mistake, such as bad email, or submitted to soon, but these "refresh" dupes should be gone.

Not for nothing but your database field for email should have been made unique to prevent dupe emails in the first place. That and validation of email addresses, not sure what language you got but I got a great email validation function for PHP I've been using for years after spending about two years tweaking it.

No worries though mate, we do appreciate the effort you have put in and many of us have complied with your request to forward your message to Dave Krieger and the Broncos PR Machine.

Great job! Sorry that I was negative nancy about the topic on the previous page.

As to the billboard, i would certainly chip in, and I am sure between the Mane, BroncosForums, Broncos country, MHR and BroncoTalk, we could get a decent swell of financial support.

looking at atleast 1500 for a billboard. flyers to pass out at the stadium i think would be a better idea. make them orange with blue letters. all it needs to say is BRING BACK BRONCO ORANGE! then in small print at the bottom write join the petition: bringbackbroncosorange.com

To be honest, I don't do programming for a living (I used to do windows programming, but not for years), and only do web stuff as a hobby when things come up. So, I through it all together in a few hours Monday night to get something up quick and didn't do any field validation.

I am using PHP so sending that function would be great.

Also, something I've been meaning to lookup, but have not had the 10 minutes to do it is disabling the enter key function as a click of the submit button. If you could email me to that info@Bringback... address, it would be great.

Krieger: Broncos fans rally to bring back the orange
By Dave Krieger
The Denver Post
Posted: 11/19/2010 01:00:00 AM MST

Broncos wore their traditional orange jerseys in Sunday's 49-29 rout of the division-rival Kansas City Chiefs at Invesco Field at Mile High. (John Leyba, The Denver Post)Campaign Orange is a groundswell growing into a tidal wave. The Broncos know it. They are monitoring the storm carefully.

We, the people, may not be able to wipe out the national debt or get Bristol Palin off "Dancing with the Stars" by shooting our TVs, but we are well on our way to convincing the local football club to go back to its traditional, rightful orange home jersey.

The e-mail campaign launched here Tuesday filled the Broncos' inbox (and mine). Remarkably, the club is responding to every one.

"We've got messages from 43 states as well as the nation's capital," Broncos chief operating officer Joe Ellis said Thursday. "Also 12 countries, including Croatia, Cambodia, Tanzania and Afghanistan. All of them are expressing a desire for the team to make orange the primary jersey color."

So, Joe, in those hallowed halls of Dove Valley where you and owner Pat Bowlen tread, beneath bigger- than-life posters of Broncos heroes of the past, are all these flying bytes having any effect?

"We're listening," Ellis said. "A lot of people are speaking up, and we're reading their e-mails and responding and looking at all the various newly created Internet sites. It's an impressive movement. So we're taking it all in. Nothing's been decided right now, but obviously we're paying attention. The response is overwhelming enough to make us pay attention."

My own inbox, at the address below, still is accepting copies of your e-mails to the Broncos at public.relations@Broncos.NFL.net. It has been a steady stream for 72 hours, from all over. In fact, Toby Nieboer of Melbourne, Australia, was third in line, at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday.

"There are a bunch of teams in some form of blue," he wrote, "but only one Orange Crush!"

Another early adopter was Paul Smith, an active duty Navy chief serving in Lisbon, Portugal. "The orange gives an attitude to the players that they sometimes don't get from traditional home uniforms," he wrote.

"You have to listen to your fans, your customers," Ellis said. "If you look at all these e-mails, hundreds of them are lifelong Broncos fans who grew up on orange and are looking for a return to orange and want to buy orange jerseys. They like the uniqueness of the color. They want to wear them to the games. We've heard that from a lot of season-ticket holders. They want to wear the color that the team is wearing on the field.

"And it reflects back for them to a lot of the great memories of the Orange Crush, and the years of that defense with Randy Gradishar and Tom Jackson and Louie Wright, and I'm leaving out names, and moving on to John Elway's beginnings with the team."

The raw numbers will be out-of-date by the time this column hits print, but as of Thursday, I had something approaching 1,000 copies of e-mails to the Broncos, and the Broncos reported having received 1,021. A petition at BringBackBroncosOrange.com had several thousand signatures, and a Facebook page launched by a KOA listener was up and running under the name Operation Orange.

Any timeline for the decision?

"I don't have a sense of that right now."

In other words, keep those e-mails and Facebook "likes" and Internet petition signatures coming. Christine-Anne Velez, for example, wrote her entire message to the Broncos in orange type. The club has until March 1 to tell the NFL it will be switching back to orange for the 2012 season, but we might make it happen sooner.

"I have been a fan over 40 years and waited two days in the cold many times to get playoff tickets," wrote Ken Hook of Colorado Springs. "I think it is time we go back to our orange jerseys. They make us stand out at home. It would be nice for fans to have some say. After all, we buy the tickets."

Not only that, it aligns fans and coach Josh McDaniels, which, let's face it, is a useful byproduct for the club. McDaniels endorsed Campaign Orange when I asked him about it Monday, a day after his team routed the Chiefs wearing the orange.

"The fans' No. 1 lobbyist also happens to be the head coach of the team," Ellis said. "If the football team likes it and the coach likes it, they feel good about it and the fans feel good about it, all of that obviously opens up your mind, all those constituents."

The groundswell is growing. It will soon be unstoppable. This may be the first orange tidal wave in oceanic history.

I just added this to the homepage to make clear this is a collaborative effort. I will hopefully be adding a supporting sites page this weekend, which will have links back to all the sites helping. I want to make sure this is not seen as a BroncosForums only thing. I had already put something like this on the Facebook page when I created it, and neglected to update the Petition site:

BringBackBroncosOrange.com is a collaboration of a number of Broncos fan sites. As the administrator of BroncosForums.com I created the site and am able to host it on the BroncosForums server, but that is a small part of the overall picture. Getting the word out, which is the most critical part of making this petition successful has been done by members of BroncosForums, the Orange Mane, Broncos Country, Mile High Report, BroncoTalk and Broncos Zone. This petition could not be possible without a coordinated effort by the ENTIRE Broncos online community.

He said he likes the look of the Orange Unis better but that he was torn on the issue because they won 2 SBs in the Blues.

It wasn't the ringing endorsement I was looking for, but hopefully the movement has enough momentum at this point that it doesn't need The Duke's full support.

In addition to sending the emails, don't forget to sign the petition and join (Like) the Facebook pages if you haven't already done so.

http://www.bringbackbroncosorange.com - 7,900 fans have signed the petition calling for a return to orange jerseys. After signing it, be sure to click the Facebook "Like" button in the upper right hand corner of the site, which will help drive traffic to the petition.

After doing that, go to the Bring Back Broncos Orange Facebook page and click "Like". The more that do this the bigger the message is to the Broncos organization and the more likely the media will keep covering it.

I doubt it will give much of a boost, but if it does, then we can see about raising money for the next one. They aren't cheap, so if there isn't a big boost, we would be better off printing flyers for Weeks 16 and 17 if we want to push this any further, or is that farther.

I'm going to be pretty tied up next few days (most of this week actually) with work, but will try and check in and see what we can figure out.

If people want to do flyers, postcards, or possibly business card size full color handouts (cheap, and easy to stick in pocket vs. getting lost), there is a guy on BF that can probably help out in designing, and we can either get printed via overnight prints (fairly inexpensive and fast) or a local Denver printer.

Ok, what do you guys think? Is it worth the effort to get some flyers/postcards/business cards printed to hand out at the last two home games?

If we do, I tend to lean towards business card sized, four color, both sides. For a couple reasons:

1. Cheap
2. People are most likely to hold on to it long enough to get in front of a computer and sign petition (they can just stuff it in their pocket).
3. Easier for people to grab a handful and had it out to people in the stadium

So, what are your thoughts?

I think in this case it was a perfect solution to be heard and got the ball rolling...if not entirely for the Broncos organization...certainly for the fans. Putting your name on a list and believing you may make a difference in something you love was a great experience for many to include myself. It also inspired others to do more...to include blogging, articles, twitter, facebook, letters, etc.

I believe all those things combined...thats what got the attention of our organization and that effort WILL ultimately see our team in Orange next year.

I am a printer and can do 1000 business cards for $28
2500 for $60
5000 for $85
10000 for $165
These are double sided, full color and coated for prettiness.

Postcards:
5000 for $190
10000 for $350

These are 4 by 6 inches, full color, double sided and coated.

I can help anyone else of course with their full color printing. PLUG!

Petitions are the protest rally's of the internet; Worthless. That said, I think they need to bring back the orange and I support everyone trying to make this happen. Just not sure the petition is the best way to do it. I know the Broncos brass has said they are looking into this. Everyone should write a letter to Bowlen.

While as a general rule, I agree with you 100%, in this case, all I will say is the Broncos are aware and watching. In addition, they are (or were) listening to the coverage and fans calling into the local radio.

There is no doubt that the Broncos have bigger fish to fry, and the fans have been a lot more focused on the losing, Spygate II and McDaniels firing, but now is the time to not only rally around the Broncos, but also this little movement.

The Broncos have to notify the NFL by March 1st if they are going to switch their primary jersey for the 2012 season (per Dave Krieger). So, my goal is to not let fans completely lose site of this, but try and let those that want the orange back to let the Broncos know.

If Bowlen have a shiat about the fans, this would be a no brainer.

That's actually good news. We'll be settled on a GM/Coach by then likely, and that gives us plenty of time to "rev" this thing up.

small business cards find a place that will do 5000 and get someone to pass them out at the next 2 games. need to find a way to get them to be seen be the higher ups, post them everywhere in the stadium, tape them to the bathrooms etc.

they need to know thios isnt a joke, the online petition thing almost seems tapped out, not a lot of hardcore bronco-ans left to sign.

I was thinking more like 20,000, if we can get a reliable distribution point at the Stadium. I'm out of town, so I can't do it.

If we get a good distribution point (most likely in tailgating area), besides spreading the word via the forums for people to go pick up a handful and spread around, I'm sure the guys at MHR, Broncotalk and Broncoszone will spread the word, plus I will email the ~9,000 people that have signed the petition.

The goal would be for quite a few people to stop buy and pick up a few hundred cards and then pass them out in the stadium near their seats, leave some near the condiment stations, etc. Possibly people standing near the entrances handing them out as people are entering the stadium. That's the reason for thinking business card size over flyers, you can buy a LOT more for the same money, people can grab a handful and throw them in a purse, backpack or whatever and handout in the stadium. People getting them can shove them in the pocket for later.

I don't mind springing for 20,000 or so cards if I'm comfortable we have a distribution plan. Now, we need to move, because I probably need to pull the trigger Monday in order to get them to someone in Denver before the Christmas and the Week 16 game. Now, if that doesn't come together, we could simply distribute them Week 17.

That's what I spent on the Denver Post ad last Monday (that was wasted money), and I think this will be much more effective.

If I feel comfortable that we have some on ground coordination to get them distributed, I'm fine making that commitment.

Not sure where you get your prices but I am a printer and quoted a price around 300 bucks for this project.

didnt see the denver post ad, how did it come out? problem with newspaper ads, people arent going to see them and then just go to teh website, when was the last time you did that? if you give them something small, portable, that they can have with them, maybe it will spark their interest a bit more, and at the worst, get the peopel at the stadium aware of how serious the fanbase is of wanting to go back to orange.

A free way to get more exposure would be for people to keep this article fresh. http://www.denverpost.com/krieger/ci_16653897

It has the brinbackorange website on it but there hasn't been a comment since Nov 20th. Just one bump and it will end up at the top for all the bloggers/posters to see again.

I should have updated things in here. I was advised that handing out flyers/cards at the stadium would probably not be a wise idea, as the Broncos have a strict policy against this.

Hopefully, with Broncos fans having a bit more positive outlook with Tebow under center (I was really hoping to see him line up under guard for a real memory), we will be able to get things rolling a bit more in this regard.

Make it a mix of business cards for people to take home and stickers for them to affix to every available hard-to-reach but easy-to-see surface at Invesco.
